CheltGirl
This link was sent to me today which says the GT4 is considered to be seriously undervalued, given that it is a homologation car. Shame they show a Gen 6 instead of a Gen 5 , but it's a great photo! Maybe if you buy the car, you get the helicopter for free ! http://www.msn.com/en-gb/cars/enthusiasts/revealed-60-seriously-undervalued-cars-that-should-be-worth-more/ss-AAfhgzB?ocid=MSN_UK_NL_MO35#image=
usetheforce
It wouldn't even be a Gen 5 as it says 86-89 so they have used a pic from a much later car and it should be a Gen 4 pic as that's the GT-four they are referring too. Prices on those have been going up as they are becoming rarer each year as they are rotting away.
Briano
when you consider just how godo the ST185 rally car was compared to the cosworth/legacy/delta etc its strange how a st185 can be written off for some rust and scrapped and a nice one is only worth a few thousand whereas the cosworth is still over £10k and climbing as is the delta. I nearly bought a delta HF integralle years ago for £1100 one of the stupidest days of my life was turning that car down I think i bought a mk5 rs2000 instead as for the ST205 this is the one of the GT4 that will really appriciate as there was enough sold - enough have survivided to cover demand and its by far and a way the best celica ever built

And as for the 205, haha
SKINY
i think the 165 and 185 are more iconic than the 205, 205 prices are going up aswell as 185s. in 6 months from i bought mine another one ive kept an eye on has been sold a few times, started at 1700 and changed again for 2500 i wood now value mine at at least 3000 with all the extra mods, maybe more ?? cossies have been strong money for years and will continue to climb i think, have seen a few escorts at 15,000 odds and the older mk2 stuff is sky high. the mates mint factory origanal mk1 mexico was valued at 18,000 at the start of the year, its worth more but. have youse seen the price of an rs500 lately the delta is a stunning looking car, martini rally colours are ive seen a few over here including a yellow one and it was a beauty, i know nothing else about them. if i had to but a classic ford it wood have to be a sierra saphire cossie 4wd, the escorts dont do it for me after mk4
_Chris_
The 205 was probably the best celica ever in virtually every aspect, however it will never be worth as much long term as it was the disgraced one, caught cheating. Bear in mind also, that they are worth far more in mainland Europe. It's only the UK that undervalues them.
CheltGirl
So that's a thought - take your GT4 on holiday, sell it and come back in something else !! It will pay for your holiday.... (not going to do that with mine of course )
bricktop
Ford scene tax makes the Cosworth expensive. The car is not even on the same level as the ST185/205 or Delta Integrale on pure WRC pedigree. Lancia deserves its price tag since it did win 6 championships and is rather rare. The cheap price of the ST185 is a little strange though. Most successful Japanese rally car of all time?
Cal670
I've never understood the high price of so many older Fords all of a sudden. The old MK1/2 Escorts, Cortinas I can believe, as they have a real racing history and pedigree to them, but the 80s XR, RS fords... Why? XR3is, RS Turbos don't really have any racing heritage to make them expensive, and compared to many other hot hatches from the time, weren't anything special. MK4 XR3is took the best part of 10 seconds to get from 0-60, didn't handle, and the CVH didn't like to be revved hard; but you had to rev it hard otherwise the car wouldn't go anywhere! RS Turbos were pretty slow for something that was turbocharged. Atleast XR2s handled like go-karts and were reasonably nippy for something sub-100 bhp, but I don't see why you now have to £4000+ for a good one. Is it just nostalgia? Askari
IIs it just nostalgia? Yes, I think so, they were the cars that middle aged men, with enough money to buy them now, lusted after when they were kids.

_Chris_
On our 2009 trip to the european gt4 meet, this was for sale in the toyota dealer where the meet ended. Those are swiss francs, and it certainly wasn't a mint example.
Sherv
We've been banging on about the low value of 165 GT4's for years. There are one or two on ebay at the moment in different states of condition. There will be a day when they just wont come up any more, due to needless breaking of saveable cars ,for one. There will come a point when people will hanker after one and they just wont be about, thats when the dealers come in and buy up the good ones and stick big prices on them. It's coming.. Oh and yeah the pic is wrong but so is the info, the 165s were a 1988 introduction, late E reg earliest, (the first cars to come with a catalytic converter in the UK i believe),the Front drive 162's like mine were from 85-89.So you've only got a couple of years of production for the 165,as the 185 appeared in what, late 90 maybe -91?hence the lack of numbers also. The 165 was around 20 grand when it appeared, certainly not a cheap car at the time. 0-60 just under 8 seconds,138mph . http://www.celica-club.co.uk/forum/index.php?/topic/112660-celica-1985-90/ here's a sight you are unlikely to see again unless you're lucky.A row of 165's in one place.

Paulus3476
Higher cruising speed basically - your car will be around 3k revs at 70mph - CS is around 85mph at 3k revs
thermoacc
I hope there is still time for me to get a 165, daddy of them all. It was going to be my next project, but the Gen5 is a hard habit to break. I reckon all it will take is a car show like Wheeler Dealers, Car SOS etc to do a GT4, raise it's current profile, and the price will go up. They seem a forgotten performance car, all under valued considering their capability and motorsport history. I've talked to a few people since I had my GT4 and they have had no idea what it is. It's even been called a Honda I love the Celica, always have, and as much as the "beer money" price is good for the likes of us, it sort of gives the car a disposable element that's not good for it's survival. Pekwah1
Please don't shoot me, i understand taste is a relative thing and different things appeal to different people, but in my own opinion, i've never been too keen on the 80s Celicas, and just don't think they have the classic looks of other cars. This could well be a reason that they haven't held a decent price like other cars of the same era.... Again, nothing against anyone on here, just not my cup of tea. A 1970s RA celica on the other hand, beautiful!
