  1. Having driven a gen 5 manual gearbox and a BEAMS gearbox they are quite different. I imagine the auto equivalents would be the same.
  2. Superb aircraft. One of the last to be developed while my wife’s grandfather was in charge at the Bristol Aircraft Co. - which he ran through the war.
  3. The beams EXU in mine is mapped for 100RON Japanese fuel.
  4. Extract from the Esso website - I have been using their Esso Supreme 99 recently and my car certainly seems to like it. Ethanol free, except in some areas. Although our pumps have E5 labels on them, our Synergy Supreme+ 99 is actually ethanol free (except, due to technical supply reasons, in Devon, Cornwall, North Wales, North England and Scotland). Legislation requires us to place these E5 labels on pumps that dispense unleaded petrol with ‘up to 5% ethanol’, including those that contain no ethanol, which is why we display them on our Synergy Supreme+ 99 pumps.
  5. I had breakfast in a hotel once with Rev. Richard Coles (Bronski Beat, Communards, Radio 4 etc.). Nice chap. We chatted. He told me he was a musician before becoming a priest. I had not the slightest idea who he was.
  6. I worked with a local councillor once. Old chap. Very modest. In fact, he was quite easy to overlook. Until you discovered he went ashore on D-Day as a medic and spent the whole day on the beach. A few years later my mother-in-law introduced me to someone she said was an old friend of hers. She said he used to work on London Underground, but long since retired. Chap was friendly enough. Fair bit older than me, of course. Walked funny. Maybe a train ran over his foot? No, he said. It was Arnhem. These meetings were many years ago now, but they taught me not to underestimate the quiet modest older types.
  7. I’ve reduced the weight in my car by over 30 kilos. By losing weight. Compared with that, removing the sound system and using a gen 6 space saver spare wheel instead of the full size spare counts for very little.
  8. I know exactly what you mean! I find the Celica love tends to wane a little over the winter, but it came flooding back this weekend with the Welsh trip. And they definitely like driving.
  9. I’ve a ways been warned not to use WD40for this. Get a can of the proper lock spray. The locks on my Trooper had ceased up completely a few weeks ago through lack of use, and a couple of squirts got them sorted out.
  10. Tell me more! I’ve been thinking about converting the 12v accessory socket so that it is live even when the ignition is off, so that I can use one of those solar battery chargers - I know they won’t deliver enough charge to recharge a depleted battery, but they do seem to do enough to compensate for the natural degradation of a battery in a standing car.
  11. When the battery was relocated to the boot, we upgraded the cable (don’t ask me what to, the guy who put it in said he was using the best he could lay his hands on, to reduce the resistance that would result from the longer cable, it was about half an inch thick) and we put in a chunkier battery than standard (450cca/60ah). These measures seem to have worked as I have noticed no reduction in performance. I know the battery in the boot reads at 13.4v on the meter, but I’ve never had reason to check the voltage in the engine bay. The fact the battery drained was due to me leaving it for three weeks in the cold.
  12. My battery is in a box in the boot with a built-in kill switch, but I admit I never thought to turn it off when I left the car on the drive for a couple of weeks when it snowed. I wish I had because it drained the battery.
  13. Wow stunner. Looks like a very high status parking lot.
  14. Not sure I’m looking forward to a Celica with a hybrid electric drive and 950cc charging engine. We’ll see.
  15. Wow 100% of people so far say red (of 3 people). Seems pretty decisive to me.
  16. I love it, what the hell is ridiculous about that?!?
  17. Thanks to Paul at TCB for the advice on these before selling them to me.
  18. It's a beauty isn't it. Didn't James Bond drive an open top version in one of the films? It has a touch of the E-types about it.
  19. Demon plates' domed plates aren't cheap but they look great imo.
  20. Looking forward to getting these on my gen 5 when I take her off the road for a few weeks over Christmas for winter maintenance.
  21. I have finished my working week in central Birmingham and the German Christmas Market is in full swing so a litre of Lowenbrau and a frankfurter and saukraut roll please for me. if there was a Japanese Christmas Market I would of course be loyal to it, but there are some things (other than cars) which the Germans do better.
  22. Mate, these cars look best with a bit of a paunch. Gold medallions work as well. And chest hair. For the male owners, of course.
  23. my grandfather's axe has had three new handles and two new blades.
