chan110
Well, I really enjoyed my 2weeks solo drive in REDs (Gen4) Mini-Tour of Great Britain. She has been a pleasure to be with, as reliable as can be and hopefully shown the rest of the country what a great beautiful car a Toyota Celica Gen4 is (esp. a RED one - wink wink :-) !!! Tis time to take a reality check. The cold frosty days are back, the wet blusty winds of yorkshire more often. RED is garaged and deserved a well-rest .... I will book RED in for a quick once over to see if the 2weeks and 3,221miles has done any damage. Also a well overdue oil+filter change plus replace the thermostat as well as a precaution. The question is: Should I SORN RED for the next 6months? If so....will there be anything to consider (disconnect battery? drive RED every month? etc)? Briano
sorn it and make sure the bodywork is bone dry when you garage it, your safe to disconect the battery from a celica and jsut conect back up in 6 months time. personally i wouldn't bother with an oil change etc untill your putting it back on the road, i would also rest it on some axle stands so as not to destroy your tyres you will get plenty more advice but i think the main one for a gen 4 is make sure its all dry
_Chris_
Disconnect battery, or make sure it's kept charged. If it's left connected it will go flat which will destroy it. Otherwise, as above.
arizona
What they said ^^ the vert gets that come November , the gen 5 has been started up a few times while been off the road but i always sorn them and the vert gets its battery disconnected
yellowchinaman
As Brian said. But use a battery conditioner. It'll simulate a use of a battery by draining and charging, turn of and on rather than just bombing the battery with power for 6 months. Get a good cover and let her rest over winter before servicing her next year. Oh yeah, put the keys somewhere safe and where you can find them. Briano
put the keys somewhere safe and where you can find them. this is the most sound advice yet wayne, I have lost the keys for the black ST and have no idea where they are
Insanity-74
I wouldnt bother, just leave it taxed, if the winters not that bad you can take it out for a spin if the fancy takes you, road tax isnt that much, its not really going to save you a fortune. Plus you can take it for a run every now and then to keep everything turning nicely. Worst thing I ever did was lay the Faff up for a few months, I'll never do it to a car ever again. chan110
Thks guys So majority agrees its SORN (Only Insanity opposes)... If SORN it does saves a few quid (not masses I agree), but there is no chance of a drive if weather is good. I can disconnect the battery, but not sure abt putting RED on Axle stands....more expenses I will need to decide by end of Sept - in order to reclaim TAX back from Oct. Thks again
rpsmith79
Well worth spending £30 on some axle stands rather than £200-300 on new tyres next year
shaungt4
Me personaly would leave it taxed to as insanity said you can still use it on ocasions. Mine is going off the rd but staying taxed , insured, + mot so i can still use it if i want to . For what you save on 6 months tax i don't think it's worth bothering to mess about with . Just put her on stands it's only a 10 min job to put her up or take her down
Bill T
Christmas Eve, roof down Santa hat on. Bright frosty morning's with the heater on full chat, even fog is better with the roof down. SORN my arse!
Old Red Celica
Don't SORN it, nothing worse than having a car Insured + MOT'd and not being able to legally drive it on the road. A car is for driving, just avoid the "Salt" in the harshest bit of the winter.

chelseablue
As some have said above, keep it road legal and you can take it for an occasional drive on fine days, I'd still garage it and connect a battery conditioner though, I also have an MX5 and a MK1 Cortina GT and that's what I do, at least it keeps everything free.
