InsolentMinx Posted October 13, 2011 Report Share Posted October 13, 2011 (edited) So i got my JVC screen working now without the handbrake having to be on, and in my excitement suddenly wondered what on earth i'm going to watch while driving?! i mean it's not like i can put a film on and watch it while cruising around; sooooo... what do i do now I can watch videos/films while on the move? i'd probably not park up and watch a film in the car when I've got a 42" screen in my room... so i do struggle to see the use of being able to watch films in the car. maybe my gf can watch a film on a long drive, but then I'll just have to listen to the audio without being able to watch the action myself. I figured maybe i could just use it for music videos... so maybe that's what I'll do... but I just wondered what you all use yours for? Ever 'watch' films while driving, or just like being 'able to'? InsolentMinx Posted October 13, 2011 Author Report Share Posted October 13, 2011 you can wire the stereo in 2 different ways so the dvd player works with the handbrake up or works all the time i think you just gotta ground the earth wire or summat like that Yeah, i researched this, and was all set to complete the easy task; but came unstuck when i pulled the headunit out and there was no handbrake wire to ground so lots of digging around in the depths of the internet and i found a blurry picture that kinda insinuated which pin on the plug the handbrake wire was supposed to be connected to... and finally got it working. needless to say, i now have it working so that I can watch with the handbrake off... but i was purely asking if anyone actually watches films while driving, or uses the video facility at all... haha, and the earth wire is the one that's already grounded just had to connect the handbrake wire to the earth wire. easy fix when i eventually made a substitute handbrake wire. For me the value in the screen would be the ease of scrolling through music, artists, playlists, settings etc. Handling music and calls from the phone via bluetooth visually on there. Sorry to thread-hijack a little, but what double din headunit fits the gen 6 console nicely without having to butcher stuff? not sure about fitting the gen 6, but yes, there's a wire that is supposed to be connected to the handbrake (somehow) when being installed, so that you can't watch videos when on the move. All you have to do is connect it to an earthed point or a ground wire and it bypasses the handbrake switch. you can't just yank the wire out or leave it disconnected either, as that way it'll never let you play a film.
