nairn man
cheers again people. it wasnt pas fluid alone that did it. it was a previous cut to my pupil from grinding and the pas fluid has managed to get in. i didnt even know there was a cut untill now. so maybe any oil will do harm so its worth protecting your eyes anyway. especially reading through this and so many of you have done the same. theres so many chemicals in the oils to do the damge. im not going to let this stop me building my beast and let nature take its course. thanks for your support and maybe now i can get away with doing the dishes or get pissed quicker because i got one eye who knows? cheers and remember others mistakes

hyper-wrap
And...on a positive note...you get to wear an eye patch, and eye patches are only worn by VERY cool bad guys in films, FACT.

Aftershock
This is terrible news, i cant imagin i'd feel so positive with continuing with my car never mind being on here to warn others. Maybe everyone should remember to add health and safety advice to any guides they write from now on aswell, i do wear safety glasses sometimes however never even crossed my mind while working under my car, i shall be doing so in the future though. Mondo
Awful news, fella. All credit to you for dealing with events as well as you are. I'll admit, I'm a gem for not bothering with PPE and all that. Welding without a mask, grinding without gloves or goggles, the classics... I think I'll consider this inspiration to be a tad more mindful in future. Speedy exit from hospital, Danny, and keep upbeat whenever possible. nairn man
im being positive here because its the only way forward and im not after sympothy as there are a lot worse out there. im still in hospital just got our lass to fetch laptop as its boring in here. i lost my eye sight in 1 eye but they still poke and prod with allsorts and just want to get home (not long now though). i also asked doctor if the right eye sight would ever come back and he said unlikely but not impossible. what does this mean? i have thought of giving up on fixing cars but its my hobby and a living i also enjoy it too much. the gen 5 has had too much work to give up and sell. maybe next car i buy should include new eyeballs. im not sure if my insurance will go up or what but will find out. cheers now im of to chat nurses up
Bumblebee
really sorry to hear this, gutted for you but do pester the nhs to see other specialists. my mate lost the vision in one of his eyes a couple of years ago when his air powered die grinder over speeded and the tool on the end exploded smashing his glasses ,and forcing glass into his eye lets be careful out there people. just a quote from a safety poster at work you lose a limb ,you get prosthetics you damage your hearing ,you get a hearing aid you lose your sight and you are blind brings it home a bit doesnt it I know i am terible for not wearing goggles when just doing that quick grinding job or drilling Working on cars can be a dangerous past time, how many for example have jacked the car up for that quick job and not used stands ? i know i have ,stupid really ,especially as when i was 18 one of my mates was killed under his capri when it fell off the jack he had placed under the diff. It was his girlfriend who found him , cant start to imagine how she felt. im usually terrible with names but i will always remember his ( Tony Fowler ) just a shame its for such a sad reason. Im sure if we think about it we all have heard some horror stories involving working on cars just be careful out there and think about the job first and what could go wrong then prepare for it bloody hell i must stop ranting , starting to feel like an old man lol Anyway chin up mate and hope things pick up for you oh and make the most of all those nurses lol

Tr1cksta
maybe next car i buy should include new eyeballs. You gonna be the first person with carbon fibre pupils? Can only mirror what the other folks have said mate, but glad you're staying positive over it all....
REWORX
same as anti freeze when i was doing my apprenticeship you play jokes on people but some one took it one step to far and put anti freeze in some lads coke and lost sight in both eyes
arizona
Cant imagine how painful that must've been, something we've all done when 'just doing a quick job' Bad enough to lose sight in one eye but lucky it wasnt both. Hope you are home soon. I've been in casualty several times after picking up a grinder and not bothering with goggles in my old job, i think your post might well make us all think twice before taking chances x
Dan23
sorry to her the news mate hat really sucks, i must admit i too dont ever wear glasses when working on the car and have plenty of crap in my eyes, but that kinda hits home really. guess if it happens to anyone best advice is hospital asap as thats usually the problem, we are all usual to proud to go hospital over injuries but just goes to show no matter how small it can cause a bit problem
