Steve74 Posted 23 March 2016 Report Posted 23 March 2016 Morning all been a while since I've posted much but i'm after some information or some guidance , I'm looking to buy my old Celica back from the previous seller as he no longer uses the car and was wondering whats the best way to get it back up to York from Peterborough. Sadly there is not Mot on the car as its not been used in since 2014 and the vehicle is SORN so need advice on transporters , is it worth getting someone else to pick it up or is better to hire a transporter and do it yourself. any help would be appreciated. Steve
ams Posted 23 March 2016 Report Posted 23 March 2016 Cheapest option is to go onto shiply and get a quote on there, but dont go for the cheapest quote - go through the feedback I have a couple of guys I use who are very good but might be a bit more than shiply as they are based out of Birmingham 1
nix Posted 23 March 2016 Report Posted 23 March 2016 http://www.transporterhire.co.uk/ A friend of mine has used this company and they seem pretty good. Cost is £105 for 24 hour rental. You get 259 miles allowance and then 12p per mile thereafter. If the car is a distance away, it may be worth considering. There are various depots you can use. He used the one in Bradford. Hope this helps.
ams Posted 23 March 2016 Report Posted 23 March 2016 looking at the distance - i think you could get a quote off shiply for around £160 all in transporterhire look reasonable if you can do 2 cars in a day
Paulus3476 Posted 23 March 2016 Report Posted 23 March 2016 Short distance - which Peterborough to York is, it will not pay to hire something to move it yourself. As Ams said, shipley - but wait for a day or two, the quotes will get a lot cheaper as they see you rejecting quotes. The deposit you pay is the shiply commission - about 25%, so ask them for a card, so you can contact them directly next time - for a 25% cheaper quote.
Paulus3476 Posted 23 March 2016 Report Posted 23 March 2016 You could try this guy - he moved my vert last week, very reliable Brian 07980 094075
Guest Ambermile Posted 23 March 2016 Report Posted 23 March 2016 (edited) Does it drive OK? Would it pass an MOT? If two yeses, book an MOT at your local garage/MOT station Insure it first though PS - whilst this would be technically legal, I'm not seriously advising this ... Edited 23 March 2016 by Ambermile

Steve74 Posted 23 March 2016 Author Report Posted 23 March 2016 ive done an application on shiply and some good quotes coming back so just seeing for now cars not currently road worthy but looking to perhaps sort it once up here plus remove the goodies for the other 2 celicas we have already
tom-coupe Posted 23 March 2016 Report Posted 23 March 2016 I its your best bet mate just looked at the round trip after hiring a transporter plus fuel. Even if say you hired a trailer it would be £45 for the day plus £70 in fuel
Cravo Posted 23 March 2016 Report Posted 23 March 2016 Is this the silver one Steve? What's the plan to restore or strip it for parts?
SKINY Posted 24 March 2016 Report Posted 24 March 2016 tow rope and a mate, run it when towing for brakes and put on-tow on the arse of it job done, small fortune saved 1
Steve74 Posted 24 March 2016 Author Report Posted 24 March 2016 It's my old car that Dave bought. Few toys on so TRD exhaust is a good extra along with Aem Sri and the ultraleggra wheels. Most likely putting car to standard and putting through mot for sale
Serratia Posted 26 March 2016 Report Posted 26 March 2016 (edited) What not ask Sam Nadeem the breaker on Facebook? Edited 26 March 2016 by Serratia
Steve74 Posted 26 March 2016 Author Report Posted 26 March 2016 weve got one sorted , josh has bought my old car from dave , was lucky enough to come with a few toys so excited to have another TRD Exhaust lol
SKINY Posted 26 March 2016 Report Posted 26 March 2016 But also illegal, at least over here. Serious bud ? No tow-ropes over there, what about the poles ?
jon_gt4 Posted 26 March 2016 Report Posted 26 March 2016 Tis true mate, has to be a solid bar now. Still see the odd person risking it, but assume its for a few miles rather than up the a1m!
