  1. I would add corroded brake pipes to the list, not the most expensive thing to sort but something I understand is quite common. Sub frames I think are the main thing. if you replace with new or refurbish old parts its still a big pain and cost to do as you might damage other parts when fitting, maybe also check that VVTI still works. All in though I would say they are very reliable cars.
  2. My job involves traveling to hospitals all over the country, we also get the 45p per mile. I'd say it works really well, decent boot size, pretty good on fuel and fairly cheap to run. You get a pretty good return on petrol costs when the expenses come in.
  3. Rear was £167.15. I'm debating giving it a further coating of hammerite or something to toughen it up before I ask for it to be fitted.

  6. WIth the keys I thought that there were 2 parts? The remote fob that opens the door and arms / disarms the alarm system but I thought the key itself was coded somehow to start the car / disable immobiliser etc? I went to timpsons about 8 months ago and got 2 keys cut (no alarm fob) and they were £50 each! But above seems to suggest you can just get an ebay key cut but then does this disable the immobilizer?
  7. A few different reasons really. I wanted a Supra or a Mitsubishi Evolution VII at the time but the evo was a bit more expensive and had less power so went with the Supra. I owned the car for about 5 years and when I got it the car had just been repainted to black from silver, a couple of months down the line you saw what a crap job they did especially not masking around the windows. Fuel was expensive but not such a huge deal as I was able to borrow a car for work stuff when I had to travel, which was lucky as the one time I checked the MPG it was 17.5mpg, but there was always something that needed fixing, gearbox, suspension and all the other bits that come with owning a 22 year old car. Just before I sold it I paid out £2600 for a full respray and those are the pictures are from the day I had it back. I went round every inch of the car checking the paint and wasn't completely happy with it even though I had them take all the windows out, replace seals etc. I could have had bits tidied up but would never be as I wanted it and that was it, I pretty much decided to sell it right then, I was just done. However,what a monster it accelerated like nothing I have ever driven, the sounds of the turbos, dump valve and the look of the car itself was incredible. It put me in the poor house a bit but I don't regret for one second driving the car I always wanted and would love to get another ideally in metallic grey with similar bodykit. As for the Celica, I had owned a gen 6 before the supra and liked it a lot although it could have done with air conditioning. With selling the supra I was able to clear a good chunk of debt and the choice was for me between a previous generation MR2 but that was a bit old and then I saw my Celica come up which wasn't too old, the gunmental grey colour I wanted and had a few styling tweaks. When I got the car I absolutely hated it, really slow (which I was expecting) but not to be that slow. After asking a few questions on this forum the guys pointed me in the right direction, diagnosed an issue with the air filter and fixed the VVTI and it's back where it should be now I'm a lot happier with the car now, everything pretty much works on it and no more crap paint! It's a good compromise between fun, looks and cost.
  8. In the end I just had to sell this, the bills were killing me and a turbo rebuild won't have been far off. I hope to get another one day though when I have a decent garage.
  9. I went to Kwik Fit when mine was hanging on by just one mount, they gave me them for free.
  10. I used infinity exhausts on my supra and found they were ok, I think they have moved now, they used to be based near junc 18 of the M5 but I think they have moved again. One of the hangers came loose about a year later so took it back in and they fixed it straight away, no charge and didn't ask to see the warranty info, pretty decent service.
  11. I had one on my gen 6, I have to say I found the quality very good, maybe these longife guys are franchises, this was one of the ones in Bristol.
  12. My car got an MOT note for subframe rust. DO these regularly rust through and be a complete MOT failure or is it just a surface rust warning that lots of models get? Google seems to throw up a range of answers. I have almost a year till the next MOT so I thought about getting a spare subframe, getting it sandblasted and coated but is this a real pain? How much stuff needs to be removed to accomplish this? I presume I would need to replace all rubbers on it etc.
  13. That's a lovely looking car. I know it's a pain in the arse but I really think it's worth getting that starter replaced or refurbished. Anyone wanting to buy a car like that is going to want to hear it run as I suspect spares are going to be trickier to find but then you could justify a higher price. I wouldn't bother doing anything with the other issues, leave that to the new owner.
  14. I'm very glad it's there, tbh I don't think much of the Gen 7 gearbox, it's really quite clunky and even this morning at a give way mark I was flashed to move out by a car already on the road, only for the car to go into reverse.
  15. I decided to order an ebay exhaust off ebay after my back box had a hole in it. I was going to get one made locally but they had around a 3 week wait and it sounded like it would be quite expensive. I was a little dubious about ordering one from ebay but I have to say that quality seems excellent and the welds look great. I might not be quite as enthusiastic when I come to fit it on the weekend though. Even came with a baffle and gasket.
  16. Cheers Freakyparts, you are already on my list. I just need to visit my folks to get a car jack as the car didn't come with one but will measure these front disks when I get the backs sorted. I already have some rubber friendly brake grease so hopefully the front calipers are fine, just need freeing up and its just the disks that are gone. One of my friends said wilwoods should have a reference number somewhere on them.
  17. I picked it up from a guy in Croydon but he had only owned it since January and I have brought it back home to Bristol. It shouldn't need too much done to bring it up to scratch. I think all the rear brake setup is toast and looking through old MOT stuff I got with the car this has been a problem for some time with brakes binding and disks wobbling. However on a quick search around the bay I found copy parts of all the rear setup (pads, calipers, discs) from brakeparts.co.uk for £180, bit of a bargain I think!. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/231337866011?_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT I'll get those installed in the next week or so. After that I'll get the exhaust replaced as it has a hole in it, not too serious but would probably fail the MOT, again i'll probably grab a stainless one off ebay and hope it fits right. All thats left is a bit of the boot plastic on one sides needs swapping, the dash panel cubby hole for an uncut one and the air con. I sent a message to AMS so hopefully air con will be sorted this week.
  18. Ha none of the work is mine yet, just brought it home at 7pm yesterday, adding a tank of petrol is as far as I have gone. Thanks I will deffinately look at getting new door cards, undecided if I just want to use aftermarked speakers and ditch all the other bits at the moment.
  19. Hey guys. First of all a quick hello as I have just joined and setup membership. I lurked on here years back when I had this Gen 6 probably way back in 2004 / 2005. Hopefully it's still out there and going strong.(T695 LCA) After the celica I bought the car I always wanted, a twin turbo toyota Supra. The car was immensely fast at 407Bhp but living with it as an only car and for works trips and the worry of further large repair bills with a 22 year old car made me look for something a bit more sensible, reliable and in general better all round condition. Anyway after selling the car I was looking at 2nd gen MR2s but again thought they were getting a little old and so turned my attention to a newer celica and bought this yesterday. In general the car bodywork is in great condition and I am certain it's known here as it has a club logo on the window although it has been given a private plate since it was last known (will try and find the old one). Does anyone know used to own it? Not from a stalking point of view I promise but more to see what work they had carried out that might help with a few things. The previous owner has only had it since Jan this year so fairly recent. I'm liking the car so far, nice and clean but I would be lying if I said I didn't miss the loss of torque compared to the Supra but it seems like it's only had a few things done to it compared to the old car which had lots of mods carried out by previous owners. So my few brief questions. I am fairly certain all the brakes are shot and need a complete overhaul as there was lots of brake judder on the way home. The front brakes seem to be these aftermarket Willwood ones. Are these a known common upgrade? I did some searching but couldn't find much information about them. Do you think they would be stock size discs? or at least could be replaced with stock ones and does anyone know if you can get refurb kits for these brakes? The Willwood site didn't seem to list anything but I will have them off the car at some point to see if I can see any identifying marks. These are the back brakes, not in very good condition. I presume they are stock calipers with aftermarket discs? I am tempted to get rid of the lot and get new discs all round and see if I can find some stock calipers to refurb. Are these available and cheap enough? The previous, previous owner had added a different spoiler I think from the GT version but it must have different fittings as there is a hole covered up with an emblem in the middle. I think my options are to go back to the stock spoiler or get it filled. Has anyone got this hole sorted with new metal in or do people just use a rubber bung? Not sure what the best approach is. The interior of the car seems in good general condition but I notice it has an aftermarket stereo which is great but it also has a big sub in the boot which is not secured in anyway and someone has drilled the door cards to get these doohickeys in that drive the speakers. It doesn't seem like the front speakers are wired in from what I can tell but will have the door cards off at some point. And last question I promise. Apparently the air con does not work anymore even after a fresh gassing. Looking at the paperwork I got with the car I can see a mention on one of the services that the air con compressor had siezed. Is it possible to replace these, get it refurbed or find a decent aftermarket part? I think I read the alternator and compressor are all one unit. Anyway, good to be here
