InsolentMinx
I dropped my car off for the MOT today before going to work. I just called up now, and it passed just fine. So no worries there. When I left it with them, I told them I wanted the alignment checking too, as the car pulls to the right a little bit, and when on the phone I asked how that went. They said the alignment was out completely on all corners, so they corrected it and it would be £95 I'm sure I've never paid that much for tracking before... what could they possibly have done to rack up that bill? 4 wheel laser geometry? Digitalghost
Seems steep for alignment. Most I have paid is about £45 for laser alignment/geometry.
Kev 16v
If I was going to a specialist such as the link below, I'd be expecting to pay IIRO £70, so given London prices.. http://www.alignment...co.uk/index.asp
Sherv
Bit steep , paid 30 quid locally in Kent for front wheel alignment with a Hunter laser
InsolentMinx
Yeah. They're a pretty neat and tidy garage who also run a few racing Smart cars. Gotta admit the name doesn't inspire great confidence http://www.dipsticks.co.uk/index.html but if it was 4 wheel alignment, I've been told by another place locally that it's a very similar price to what they'd have charged if all 4 wheels were out. (i called the local 'family' garage my parents have always used, and they recommended a local tyre specialist who i called, and they said the price was about right) .... looks like i need to head out of London when i want my alignment doing!! Ghoulie
Does the £95 include the MOT??? £25 to £30 here
matt1280
I'm getting mine done at some point and the garage said 20quid tops
InsolentMinx
errrrmmm... maybe it does include the MOT? At least i hope there was some kind of miscommunication, and it does! ... Mods can you delete this thread now please, so I don't have to be subject to the rediculously cheap quotes for this service outside of London
Devious
Hold on... All 4 corners were out? So they performed 4 wheel alignment which also includes camber adjusting too. SVA Imports charges £85 for FULL 4 wheel alignment. Add London living costs, seems about right to me.
InsolentMinx
yeah, as far as I gather from over the phone, it was all 4 corners... not just front 2. So 4 wheel alignment... I'll double check the invoice when I get home. I wanted to check the price now as girlfriend needs it for this afternoon so is picking the car up and paying. Otherwise i'd have collected & discussed/paid in the morning

InsolentMinx
nah, prob useful for other people wondering how much it may cost. although the price range seems huge
Serratia
Grinspeed charge £96 for a full 4 wheel alignment but that includes setting up of optimum ride height and damping of my coilovers plus set up of the adjustable camber arms I have just fitted. InsolentMinx
well due to a few missing parts in that equation, I'm already certain that that's quite definitely a lot more than what was done to mine. I'm just hoping I got a full and comprehensive service, but I have a feeling it may be just excessive East London weighting. ho hum. tombrady
My local place is £15 for laser alignment for 2 wheels, plus a free check/re track 2 weeks after. Sent from my MB860 using Tapatalk
splinter
i take it this is with the wall mounted lazer rig with sensors placed over all 4 wheels, not the one where they hang the lazer off the wheels pointing at the other axel? if so then this is a proper 4 wheel alignment rig. i would say about 20 to 25 a corner is about right mate. i get mine through FCM Motorsports and its £80 with club membership IIRC. And John sets up the whole car for me, will be getting done shortly with my MOT along with some other tasty inclusions A full alignment rig: Edited March 7, 2013 by splinter
Shinogi
Sounds about right if its a proper full wheel track, you should get a print out if it is showing how much each wheel has been adjusted. I paid £20 for all 4 BUT it was a standard 2 wheel alignment and they then moved the lasers to the rear. I presume not as accurate for the rears but they said they should be spot on with his method. ams
Adjusting the front only - £30 IF they are adjusting the rears as well id say that could take it to £95 - but make sure they actually do adjust the rears if they charge you for it - most of the gen7s are seized - yours is fairly new so may be ok still
