Yes, I did my Scottish one last year. It was only on coastal roads and keeping the sea always in view on my left hand side. I also went to all of the farthest points a car can reach, South West, North West, North, North East and East using bridges and ferries. Over 1480 miles in four days only driving in daylight apart from the last day when I did over 650 miles. Three B&Bs. I documented mine on FB.s228565_168249589898074_2802505_n.jpg227383_168097943246572_5920122_n.jpg

A group of us from the DC went down to the international meet in Switzerland in 09. One hell of an experience.

GT4's really do turn heads

I won't mention the group of us that went to the lake district earlier this year. All 3 cars broke down on the way up.

What was the cause of the break downs? I have had many break downs in nearly 50yrs of driving but never one in seven toyotas (four celicas)

Mine was actually in a clio (GT4's both out of MOT) and a spring came adrift from the clutch plate and wedged so no declutching. I still drove it but avoided towns / hill starts. The GT4 185RC had an ECU failure which prevented it starting when warm, and the ST205 had a burst radiator as a result of no pressure relief cap on the header tank (I did warn him :D ). He stopped for fuel and we carried on as we couldn't stop, then he caught us up just as we stopped to look for the campsite and his car promptly disappeared in a cloud of steam. It was like a scene from a top gear challenge.

We arrived at the campsite, me unable to stop untill we reached the pitch at the top of the hill, the 185 (unable to start) towed by the 205(no rad). :D

A couple of phone calls later and the next day we received a spare ECU from a friend and a new rad & forlife from TCB. Excellent service as always.

To be fair, my st205 is very reliable and does a lot of miles every year, but then it is standard. The Clio is, however, the only car I own which has never come home on a recovery wagon in over 170K miles.

I'm hoping to do a partly motorsport related Tour of the North in September/October.

200 miles up to Liverpool, Isle of Man then across to Newcastle.

I wonder if anyone might be interested popping off to IOM at a few weeks short notice?

  • 2 weeks later...

I did an 880 mile round trip in July. Edinburgh to Newcastle, ferry to Amsterdam, drive to Spa-Francorchamps and camp for 4 days to watch the 24 hours of Spa, then on to the Ring for 5 days in an apartment, 2 laps of Ring itself and drive all the way back to edinburgh.

Barely used 2.5 tanks of fuel!

In my gen 4 I drove from london to south Wales then to north Wales and then to north Wales , back down across south Wales and back to London total 977 miles in one trip not bad for a 23 year old car fully loaded cruising along used 2 1/4 tanks of fuel, wasn't a patch on Wayne epic tour though

I went to the 24 hour Le Mans bike event in my 1st Gen 7, it was 2 weeks old back in 2001.

Me and my mate got pissed and lost the only car key I took, we then had to tour back to England on public transport and pick his car up then pick my spare key up then drive back. ( passports were locked in the glove box in France).

When we got to the campsite some thieving git had taken the tent and contents but left the car.

We missed all the racing then drove back to England and had a 2 car relay, we had 36 hours with no sleep and I was straight to work.
