  1. Happy 4 Anniversary BrianGT!

  2. If the engine was seized, when you tried to bump start it would have locked the wheels.
  3. Although mine is a different model I had something very similar. One day, out of the blue, it just wouldn't turn over and I got a click from the starter motor. As the starter motor was 40 years old I changed it for a known working one (on the bench anyway) and got the same fault. I knew the battery was good as it was fairly new so I checked the voltage to the starter through the main thick cable. I had 12 volts at the battery terminal and 1 volt at the starter! The cable had deteriorated over the years and was creating a huge resistance to flow. Changing it cured the problem. This also happens to earth cables! Hope this helps.
  4. I was hoping you would see the Fiat! It looked superb!
  5. https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=785016074925639 I posted this video in "Motorsport" but it will get more views here and I am sure the younger Celica drivers will appreciate it no matter what Generation they drive! 3:30.......AWESOME......and on nobbly tyres! Mods: please feel free to delete this thread I just thought the youngsters would see it in here and enjoy it.
  6. Legend Jan! Enjoy and milk the moment! Edit: Jan, when anyone from work mentions your car to you just voice very subtly " Yeah....it's ok but I might need to change the tyres.....when I push it and get in a 4 wheel drift I can't get it back on the steering......I have to use the throttle and a bit of left foot braking".....nonchalantly.......you won't have to make a cup of tea again!!! Legend!
  7. Yeah!!! Your post fired me up!! If you are in my way......move over or I drive over the top of you!
  8. I'm 62, drive a first generation with lot's of boy racer stickers and go faster stripes and I'm a full time HOOLIGAN!
  9. Solid decals really take some thinking about and some pre-planning. As you say, you have to think about where to place them in relation to where parts of it will end up. Splinters are almost abstract and because of that they totally work for me.
  10. Here's mine but it's not really for the road! It's based on an old Celica I had that was based on the works cars....
  11. I used to do that with guitars!!!! I would buy a new guitar and put it under the bed where I kept a few. Then when the missus came in I would pull it from under the bed and start playing it! "Is that a new guitar???!!!" "No dear.........it's the red one. You know, the red one I have." Worked for years until a mate dropped me in it!
  12. "Honestly Dear.......I haven't spent a penny on this old car. I just get the parts out of the shed.........."
  13. Happy Anniversary BrianGT!

  14. Great pics! The lighting is really, really good. The inside of that cabin is lit so well and it looks superb!
  15. Just picked up this month's PC with the coupe review. They give Bazz's Celica a great write up and the pic they used makes it look almost current and not dated. They loved it. It came second only to the Corrado which I think is truly credit worthy. Well done Bazza, I bet you are chuffed to bits!
  16. I used to use bonnet pins on my TA22 but that opens the other way so I could use the rear bonnet catch and pins at the front. Taking out the pins and pulling the bonnet catch meant easy removal of the bonnet but a pain in the butt to remove the bonnet just to check the oil! Splinter...............your car looks AWESOME! I love the way it sits and those graphics!!
  17. It's basically called "parasitic conversion" in that anything you add to the engine has to be driven in some way.........it doesn't come free..........and you have to add up the power needed to drive it against the power it produces.......that's it in basic terms.
  18. Once you put on wider tyres with really grippy rubber you put so much strain on the suspension and ball joints and to be honest, you really have to drive like a lunatic to really need wider tyres on a public road.
  19. So glad it turned out ok! Your car is awesome!
  20. I'm really surprised they have only lasted a year. Mine have been on for well over 2 years now and they look like new! I polish over them when I polish the car and they look like they are painted on. It was good vinyl though.
  21. That must have really sickened you finding that. I agree that it looks like the tail end of a wagon has backed in to you....any neighbour had anything delivered that morning/ day before?
  22. As Planc knows I used to work there......34 years ago! They were the 6th oldest Toyota dealership in the country and people came from all over the north east to get their cars serviced there. it was a great time to be a mechanic! It was different in those days, old school mechanicing with cars you could always fix first time because they were so simple! That's why I still run an oldie.......even I can remember how it works!
  23. You have to remember that Denso, Bosch etc. don't make cars.....they supply parts to manufacturers who DO make cars. They supply them at a price point that the car manufacturer needs....and if the manufacturer thinks he can get that part much cheaper and brand it it's own it will do. It's just economics......so a Bosch/Denso filter might be better quality. There has been so many discussions on here about "Trd" oil filters being better than an "ordinary" filter but as i pointed out previously......what's the difference in how much each filter flows?? They both fit.....but which flows the most oil by litr per minute? For the record.......I use a Ford filter on my 76 Celica that has a high capacity pump fitted. Why? Because the guys that built the Toyota race engines used one....... because the Toyota filter couldn't cope. Sometimes MR.T tries it on.........
  24. That's like the tail wagging the dog! Manufacturers mechanics are supposed to be able to zone in and "know" what the fault is without guess work......it's like the car is sat their grinning......."Go on mate.......have a guess!" In my day, a set of plugs and points and you only had the two choices!!
