  1. Facebook has some hillarious comments about Celicas, Especially from our friends 'across the pond' One guy recently wanted a brake upgrade for his ST as he wants to get sub 12sec runs on a 1/4 mile strip. The car is a standard USDM 1.8 ST 7A-FE engine On his profile he says he plays alot of computer games...... Says it all really.
  2. Know your pain. Did my Vert last weekend, then had to do it all again today. Only because the wifes ST was still under cover of our carport.
  3. Not done too much to mine recently but managed to clean, detail and polish the wifes ST. May get round to doing the vert today
  4. Nice little addition to the Vert, All the way from the USA. JDM Central armrest
  5. Had a similar issue with my daily commuter car. Noise got louder with road speed and not affected by engine revs Turned out to be a very dry wheel bearing. It could also be 'feathering' on tyre tread. Usually happens on cheap tyres. Check the tyre tread pattern for different heights on tread block. Or if you have them, swap over to another set of wheels to eliminate the tyre issue. Hope that helps
  6. Cleaned it again, then later got told by a random person in a supermarket carpark it was the cleanest and best looking Gen 6 vert he has ever seen. Felt quite chuffed.
  7. Bit of a silly question but what advantages /disadvantages does the E56 gearbox have over the S54 gearbox on the Gen 6?
  8. 2nd pic is the cable to the oil level sensor in the sump
  9. Lambda sensor off a UK spec 1996 GT 3S-GE which I am breaking. This sensor screws into the downpipe under the car forward of the cat about in line with the bulkhead & Front subframe. Some lambda sensors (I think for the JDM Imports) have a flange with 2 bolt holes. I have seen some which bolt /screw in to the headers but I think this is mainly on the 3S-FE engine.
  10. After a long wait, these arrived yesterday. Still need a little bit of TLC to get some of the small dings out but I am happy with them.
  11. Today was a bit of a session, removed, stripped, cleaned & rebuilt the rear calipers, removed broken thermostat & replaced with new one & replaced split Aux. belt.
  12. Had advisories on my old GT for having a Noisy exhaust ever since my run in with the local plod regarding my exhausts 'Looking loud' & my mate who is my MOT tester found out. There are regulations regarding noise, ISO5130 gives the procedure on how to static test. BUT and this is the problem, the regulations for noise test is actually 82dB at a 30mph drive by test. Static test for SVA or import is 99dB taken at 3750RPM. The Police can do a test, it is the static one, they ask you to rev to 3/4 of the way to the red line 3 times & take an average. (this is actually wrong as they pick and choose the lowest possible limit so will try and fail your ca)r Norfolk Police state that the regs are 82dB, but in court they were proven wrong. Basically, the law is that if you have an aftermarket exhaust, it must not be louder than that of a standard system. Toyota do not know what the dB reading on standard system on a Gen 6 should be. An MOT tester can fail a car if he/she feels that the noise it too loud, but cannot actually test for noise using a dB meter. so it is a persons perspective. Some like loud exhausts, some don't. There is a much longer story to this back in my archives if you really want to search for it..
  13. My first Celica I still have ... just, This was taken a week after i got her back in Sept 2009. She has been off the road now for just over a year and will be stripped down this summer for parts. Slowly de-modding. Some bits have already been moved over to my Vert, my Wifes ST & also my sons ST.
  14. Being pedantic it is a Digital caliper as there is no vernier scale. But really it is my digital clock. I am a 'Measuring Monkey' and that Mitutoyo Caliper clock has been eyed up by a few people as they are like rocking horse doodoo to get hold of. Even harder to get than some JDM stuff
  15. Changed the handbrake cover. Removed original rubber covering and fitted a gator and aluminium handle
  16. You just have to look at the elimination process that goes in on the Country file calendar for the BBC to appreciate what is needed. Iain, you say it is a Members Calendar !!! there are about 70 photos on the Calendar, and how many members do we have registered ? Hmmm, let me see 26,454 . admittedly not all are active users now but puts it into a bit of perspective. Some members submit more than one photo so they ALL have to be looked at. Just take it on the chin mate and compose a better photo next year rather than going on a rant on here.
  17. Got mine C/O ORC and the post Xmas get together. Very pleased and a very nice touch for those that we have lost in the club.
  18. Oooh Can't wait. Missed my CCUK Calendar last year. Had to resort to a Mitutoyo one instead (wasn't allowed it up at work due the the content )
  19. Health & safety do not come into it, With 40+ year old vehicles, the owner probably knows more about the vehicle than the MOT tester does. Plus with the new MOT tests, about 80% of it is irrelevant to a 'Classic vehicle'. There is nothing stopping you from getting any vehicle MOT'd no matter what the age, but it is probably more advisable to get the vehicle 'checked over' by a specialist or someone with an interest in Classic vehicles rather than some testing station linked to a main dealership that know nothing about cars over 10 years old. Anyway Chris, your info is slightly wrong, this was Taken from the Direct Gov web site:- Vehicles that do not need an MOT You do not need to get an MOT if: the vehicle was built or first registered more than 40 years ago no ‘substantial changes’ have been made to the vehicle in the last 30 years, for example replacing the chassis, body, axles or engine to change the way the vehicle works If you’re not sure if there have been any substantial changes you can: read the full guidance on MOT exemptions for historic vehicles speak to a historic vehicle expert
  20. Also, Wider front wheels of a FWD car will fail on an MOT.
