pic of a gen 5 and gen 7 side by side.

Recommended Posts

im looking at new front ends and as there are very limited choices out there and i have more time than sense i was thinking of maybe taking a gen7 after market bumper and making it fit a gen 5.

not sure what front end i would go for yet. just looking to see what the sizes measure up like to see if it is possible with out to much work. i know its going to be a bit of work as the bonnet line would have to be adjusted but was hoping the rest would be close enough to go.

going to go look up the specs for both cars now but wondered if any one had a good pic so i can visualise it.

thanks andy

have some very rough ideas i have knocked up. width i got from the wiki was 1735mm for the gen 7 and 1690mm for the gen5. so they are very close.

can some one measure the distance between the bottom inside corners of the head lights for me?

these are not pretty but give an idea.

could find a good angle of the TRD bumper to have a go at but seem similar to the other one i found.

anyway i need to sort a new front end out and having some thing different to what i had before seemed like a good idea as i was never a big fan of it (but could live with it).

any other ideas are welcome as well.

thanks andy

yeah thats what im thinking. but i can fibre glass and sculpt it to work if it close enough. if its miles out i cant see the point in wasting the time.

im also thinking that the front of the gen7 comes in (more circular at the front) on the wings to much.

im liking the second one as it kind of flows with the rest of the kit a little better as its not as sharp???

No, just no..

i have to do some thing, this is just no good,

and a standard bumper with the rest of the kit just looks bad. :P

i have to sort out a new bumper though as after the accident i have no front end. as in the pic above.

if i put a standard bumper back on it as per a gt4 then there will be about a 6" height difference between the skirts and the front end as the standard front end is miles off the ground.

getting any thing gen5 body kit wise now is getting to be very difficult.

some thing has to be done im afraid. and as for bastardising a gen 5 i did that years ago now and just looking for some thing different.

Maybe experiment with moulding a lip onto the gt4 bumper?

its possible but for the price i will have to pay for all the bits to put it back to a standard bumper and then the price of a lip on top it would cost as much if not more than just making some thing a little different and unique.

plus putting a lip on just looks like an after thought. a bit like "oops i forgot to do the front, oh that will do". if that makes sense.

This, put the fibre glassing experience to good use and sculpt the lip in though, and then maybe the arches also.

There are plenty of other lips out there for other cars that could be made to suit to avoid the look of the picture you posted.

But because you asked so nicely, between the bottom corners it's 97.5cm and along the bonnet line it's 105cm, that's including the slight curve though.

thanks james. :D

cant sculpt the lip in though as then it would be impossible to get the car apart. as it is the side skirts are sealed to the front wings so these can not come off. this makes for working on the car difficult at the moment but workable. if the front bumper is fixed to the wings and lip then any thing more than a simple service becomes a problem. for example the rear washer on the car has stopped working a few years ago after the kit was fitted. as far as i know its not really possible to get to the pump without removing the wing. so the washer pump has been left as its not part of the mot (and never really used it any way).

sorry have to look at it in a practical sense as the poor bugger that will be do the work on it when its back on the road will be me.

I like the look of your existing bumper. I can't see a shoehorned Gen 7 bumper adding any more Wow factor.

this is all i have at the moment.

the other pic was from a while ago, pre accident.

I say verily unto you The Gen5 GT4 look is perfect, nothing from a Gen7 apart from the seats belong in a 5. Please don't barstardise your 5 Coop! I beg of you!!!

And the gen7 steering wheel - and the sony double din
