Anyone using Millers Nanodrive?

Talking to Kev (my mechanic) this morning, and he asked if I'd heard of this new oil from Millers which supposedly increases torque and BHP. Being old, I'm rather sceptical about such claims, but after reading the link below, I was curious if any Celica owners had tried it.

Looks to be quite impressive stuff Kev,it's not cheap but for that extra performance it could appeal to a few members. It would be interesting to see how it performs on mpg for a Gen 7,if it outweighs the cost of the oil then it could prove to be a popular choice in the future :)

I can't comment on that product but every oil or additive I have used from Miller's has been top notch.

Wouldn't hesitate to recommend their oils.....I use Classic Sport 20/50 semi synthetic. it has all the ingredients older engines need.

They make quality stuff so maybe there is something in it!

Hmm, I wonder if they could bottle the Nanoparticles and make it an additive for your normal oil, probably not though, they couldn't print the patented Magic Production Incantations on the can.

Impressive but blooming expensive, I didn't notice any mention of recommended change periods, will probably be O.K. for the weekend warriors but not the high mileage DD's

I would not be surprised. Oil technology has gone a long way over the past few decades and we now see more and more different brands of advanced oils in the market. We already know good leading brands at different grades feel very different and this seems like its raising the bar that bit more. I would give this a try on my next service.

When I re-built my car a couple of years ago I was desperate to get it running. I filled it with Millers synthetic racing oil (5-40 i think)

which was the only oil in bulk in the garage and used that to run it in.

When I changed the oil and filter after about 1500 miles I filled it with the correct Millers 20-50 and I swear to this day I could feel the engine "slow" up.....a bit more lethargic.

Maybe I was right after all looking back on it..........hmmm.

From those power and torque graphs it looks like the benefit comes in the higher rev range, you actually lose power and torque below 2000 RPM, so for commuting and cruising you may actually be running less power than normal and (I would guess) increasing internal friction which will reduce your mpg. Maybe more geared towards a track day car, or those who are lucky enough to have some quiet and twisty roads on their way to work ;)

Also slightly puzzled by Millers' claim that this new oil fills in the rough metal surfaces and forms a smooth film - makes me wonder what the hell they were trying to do before

Jeeeez that's damn expensive stuff, the cheapest I could find on line was £46.33, but the average for 5W40 was about £60 to £70 for 5 litres :o

Also with these expensive 'specialist' oils i can't really see the point of using them on a day to day car. Most engine manufacturers spend millions of £ or $ on engine wear research in conjunction with oil companies. They recommend an oil that is suitable for your engne given the type of car it is, the typical usage it will get in it's life and what the bearing manufacturers would reccommend for that build of engine.

A 10 or 20 year old car which has, no doubt a staggered service history isn't going to benefit from this 'nano technology oil'' that a brand new, benchmarked race engine with no expense on components would.

Most race engines that use this stuff are stripped down at very regular intervals, normal production engines like ours are not.
