  1. Hmmmm.........difficult choice! I too LOVE the gen 4 shape but as they get older it's more difficult to source parts on a regular basis.....I also love the looks of a Gen6........build quality on those is very good....decisions, decisions!
  2. Hahaha! Mine does Both! Roars like a Lion and farts like a Horse!
  3. I've been using V Power since I built my engine simply because I need 99 octane because of the high compression. I sometimes have to use Tesco Momentum which I think is good also as far as octane. I'll probably strip my engine more times than you guys (always modding something!) so I'll let you know if the head and valves look cleaner than "normal"........
  4. I'm actually going to fit one to my Gen1. I have twin carbs and simple ignition so setting the idle mixture is easy with my Gunson gas analyser and colortune plug but once the car is revving at 7k I have no idea what the mixture is doing without analysing the plug colour. It's very easy with Dellorto's to get the main jet mixture correct if you have a gauge...a simple change of main jet or air corrector is all that's needed. The gauge keeps you right and saves the cost of a rolling road! Demon Tweeks sell one with the exhaust adaptor and gauge and leads for around £150. That's the cost of one rolling road tuning session! It's peace of mind..you don't want detonation and a very weak mixture.
  5. Got the mag today and it's a nice read. Could have been a bit more in depth but as it's a "guide" to the Celica there was enough information to whet the appetite! Well done!
  6. Keep it that succinct and direct and the court will know you know the facts and have done your research without coming across as a clever bugger! Well done mate....wish I was in the gallery that day!
  7. Your case is becoming stronger by the minute! Note down the relevant points of law but keep it simple and direct so that the Magistrate understands what you are saying first time across...that way it really sinks in.
  8. Nahhh! It's because you don't speak in smoke signals! You cut through the bull and tell the truth! Very admirable trait! Would it be ok to fit a magnetic sump plug in mine though......I think everything in there is rusting!!
  9. This!! When most people say to me "I need more power"....i just think....drive down a forest stage at 100mph with trees 6 feet either side and then say you need more power! 50bhp would be more than enough for most drivers in that scenario! It's not a dig at anyone.....I mean that ....it's just that in the real world on public roads if you can wring a GT86's neck then you should be looking at a works drive.......
  10. The thing for me is that the majority of us are laughing at the "sporty looking" GT86 and saying it doesn't go very fast in the same way that Golf TDi owners are laughing at the Celica......they don't go very fast. I think that a couple of years down the line it will replace a lot of Celica's if you are a Toyota fan simply because the Celica is no more and will be too old for most people to buy.
  11. The concept of the GT86 is that it's the beginning of Toyota's move towards bringing out more performance related cars......the current Chairman realises that they make boring cars these days. He is a petrol head and he races over in Japan. The "sporty" Celica is no more and so the GT86 came along to be developed as it evolved and although it's tune is in a relatively mild state it has a chassis and suspension that can handle much more power and that is already in the pipeline. Releasing it with serious power would have really put the price up at launch ....as it is they have brought out a car that every reviewer has raved about, except for those that test it for 30 mins in town and say that it's not quick enough because they exploited the handling to the full around Sainsbury's roundabout...... If you see one around the Dales driven by an elderly man with a woolly hat give it a wide berth......unless you can really drive!! Give it a chance....it's early days yet but I wager that in a couple of years time serious amounts of Gen 7's will be dumped in favour of it!
  12. I used Halfords caliper paint on mine. They were clean, grease free new calipers and although I followed the instructions the paint doesn't stick that great! Finish id good but not durable in my case. I think I will use Hanmmerite/Smoothrite next time as it does stick to to other things I've painted!!
  13. Red or pink is fine but shouldn't be used on pre 1990 cars as it is acid based and degrades silicone compounds used for sealing gaskets etc. Whichever you use I would change every 2 years anyway as it flushes out debris from the system as you change it......all helps the cooling system to stay in good order. For older cars use blue/green and change every 2 years.
  14. Only one more sleep until Monday now! I hope you enjoy the car mate and it looks after you too......have fun!
  15. Giving up? Ehhhhh? I've spent 6 months searching for brake parts for my Gen 1....I've paid a lifetimes wages in postage from Ozzyland to get them and I almost had to fly someone over to fit them.........so don't tell me you are giving up over a plastic boot spoiler!! Pfffht!
  16. Awesome! Well done mate! Looks like it was a great day for pics! I've been buying that magazine for a while and it's about time we had something different from a MGB/Triumph......which is particularly irritating because you can get ALL the parts for those! I spoke with Neil Campbell before Xmas and they are talking about doing a restoration piece on my Gen1 so I hope that comes off too! They seem a decent set of guys and they all seem to have a great sense of humour too!
  17. That happens to me a lot! Supermarket car parks! Most modern Celica drivers have no idea what my car is....even with Toyota written all over it!!
  18. I know you have been hit but I wouldn't worry about the return postage......just get them back and claim the bulk of the purchase price. Sometimes, although justified, we can't always revert to a clear playing field.
  19. Matt1280........those wheels look great....great job!
  20. Shaun.........that's a fantastic job you've done on your wheels! I have to be honest I'm too lazy to go to all that preperation work........
