Angry at comments about the car.

140K isn't a huge milage for a big engined car. I know one GT4 that's done 250K, and it hasn't been grannied about. I'm even up past 180K on my small engined clio and it was thrashed (by me) for the first 140K miles, including being 'run in' down the autobahns at over 100

If the worst comes to the worst and the engine lets go, a secondhand engine doesn't cost a fortune. IMO it's the bodywork that should determine when it's time to break.

VAG drivers

Tbh they're just looking out for you and don't want you to end up hurt or worse should there be a catastrophic failure.

My mum still moans at me if I do 72 on the motorway...

21 year old Gen 5, 166k on the clock and still loving redline

Lucky you! my mother goes daft if i'm over 65mph on the motorway and she cant even drive. Now i dont let her get in my car.

...you bought the car to enjoy it...so enjoy it! Treat your car well and it will reward you with moments of pure pleasure, moments that transcend verbal description...but these moments make life richer for the true petrolhead...

Pure poetry my friend - so much so that it's going into my sig!

You know, when I told my dad I was buying my motor I neglected to mention it was a Celica, I just told him it was 14 years old, had well over 100k on the clock and he said 'What the hell?!?'

When I told him it was a Celica GT, just like the last Celica he owned, he said 'Oh, forget I said anything'. His last motor was a 1994 Landcruiser VX 4.2 straight 6 diesel with 345k on the clock when he sold it, and the only thing wrong with it was the u/j's were about knackered on the prop.

I say enjoy it! That's what it's there for!

Mines nearly at 160000 now burns oil like its going out of fashion has the odd rattle every now and again but still gets hammered almost every time it goes out. If it goes bang then phone Mr Ams get another engine fit it and bobs your uncle job done. Just make sure you keep putting oil in and it will be fine.

I bought mine WITH the "death rattle" cos I was so desperate to have a Celica. Got it for peanuts, popped a facelift engine in & jobsagoodun! My missus reckoned I was too old for a "proper" sports car but she loves it to bits( AND it's only the 140!) Enjoy it bud n Ignore the old farts(sorry) like I ignored the wife!! It's worth it :xmas_biggrin:

OHHH COME HERE GUYS *huge virtual hug*

Lol. Cheers guys, really made me feel a load better about it all :)

Your parents must be about my age, 50+ and started driving in the mid to late 1970s.

In those days the Celica equivalent was a Capri, I owned one (actually 3), slightly less affluent teens had Escorts, Cortinas or worse still, Anglias or the truly insane bought Marinas or Morris 1100s, by 70,000 miles they burned or leaked oil and were virtually comprehensively shagged and thats if the bodyshells hadnt rotted out first. Eight or nine years was a good lifespan.

Things have come a long way since then thank God. Cars dont really wear out any more, they just become obsolete.

If your car looks alright, sounds alright then it is alright.

ha ha thats a none petrol head statement if ever I heard one!

my gen 5 had 85K on the clock with no history (seller claimed it had been stolen) when i bought it Eventually it ended up being my track car, so redlined for a high percentage of its miles! When it finally got an "issue" with getting too hot (failing waterpump or headgasket) it was time for me to move on anyway so sold it with the fault and it had 154K on the clock.

I even had it rolling roaded with 133K on the clock and it came out at 159 BHP (5 more than stock with mild mods)

I just used decent semi synthetic oil and a toyota filter every 3K miles without fail or at least twice a year when in track use, and it was superb.

Infact the bloke who bought it off me has had the headgasket and waterpump done and it should be back out sprinting in 2013.
