  4. Nope, front seat is wet (SEA WATER- just to pre-empt the next obvious comment) and covered in sand, gonna clean it later.
  5. Amazing what you can get away with in Lyme Regis on the beach at night. I'll leave it there.......
  6. Definitely not annoying. Shes just plain mental, went in the sea last night with her clothes on, got soaked, took all her clothes off in the car and we drove home like that. More comments she makes like that about my car and I'm going to marry her...........
  7. Had a few great comments from my new girlfriend 2 weeks ago, "Ooh that's so sexy, its gorgeous and I bet its fast" ( She owns a Polo)......Errm, no love, its only a Celica 140,(I didn't tell her THAT!) No point in disappointing her with honesty. I said she could drive it if she wanted but she looked alarmed and said she would probably crash it on the next bend, so no. She's an American from Texas so not used to bends...say no more. I feel really good sometimes....
  8. I was just getting into my car in Maccy D's car park in Bridport last Wednesday, the owner of the car parked next to mine looked over my car "Nice car mate, only got a small engine though, could do at least a 1.6 in it" Then he got into his L reg. Corsa 1.2. I wanted to shove his Big Mac takeaway straight up his arse. Fucking wanker, twat, shit brain, tosser, c*nt. Delete what you think is not appropriate............
  9. MG used to be a company all of its own in Abingdon, then became part of BMC then British Leyland (then Quality control went down hill fast) As I remember they only "badged" a couple of cars they didn't design, a Farina bodied Austin/Morris and the 1100/1300. They also made the Sprite for Austin Healey. MG ended in 1980, the factory closed, its where I worked there as a design engineer (not much there to design) and ended up redundant MGs built since that date have nothing to do with the MG marque, its only been a badge since then. Everything since was built and designed by, British Leyland, Austin Rover and the Rover Group and now the Chinese - never has a car manufacturing company had so many names.
  10. A few Gen 7s around Lyme Regis but quite a few Gen 6s although they could be early Hyundai coupes. I cant tell the difference . They look the same to me .......
  11. Every time I give someone I lift, I get the same comment, "Oooh, isn't it low? I'm not sure if I can get in let alone get out?" Well you can always bloody walk.......
  12. I might be able to answer that as ams isn't about, LPG cannot lubricate the valve faces and seats, it has no additives unlike unleaded and the engine tends to run hotter. In the old days of 4 star petrol many engines had valve seats machined directly in the cylinder head so iron headed engines had no seat inserts, they weren't necessary. Valves can recede into the seats and the valve stems move closer to the cams or followers reducing the valve gap or worse - no gap at all so the valve fails to seal and starts to burn ruining both the valves and the seats, and eventually reducing compression to zero - head off job when that happens, new valves and recut seats normally, not the end of the world but expense you don't need. Valve clearances are there for a reason and should be checked from time to time.
  13. Funny you say that ams, mine did exactly the same and I had a new metering head fitted 6 months ago to cure it, slightly different to the old one that apparently caused problems.
  14. Depends what type of Redex you use, its been around many many years - certainly since the 1960s if not before that and sold as an upper cylinder lubricant, dunno if its any different now or just marketed differently. Use decent petrol and I doubt its necessary. My car has an automated external system called "Flashlube" that feeds constantly into the inlets, because my engine also runs on LPG, Valves on Gen 7s are apparently "soft" so its necessary to use this system with LPG, otherwise the valves seats get buggered, still 196000 miles on the clock and all still good.
  15. I've used a heat gun to do this (not this one) to cure VHT on bike exhausts and it is effective (try getting a Yamaha YVPS into an oven even when the Missus is out - its not gonna happen). Then again I did put bike bits in the dish washer a few times. It takes time and patience but it is worth it, what have you got to lose? Just a tenner.
  16. My car being called a hairdressers car, (Gen 6 owners, you know who you are...)
  17. Not really, if the lacquer is coming off it will continue so respray it is. Ive just had my boot and bonnet resprayed for the same reason.
  18. These patches are not a new idea, Holts came out with these many years ago, I tried them on my rusting Cortina GT (yeah THAT long ago) they looked more like Elastoplast and therefore bloody awful and they didn't stay on long. I shouldn't think these "new" ones are any different.
  19. I shouldn't think there are many Gen 7s out there with intact gaiters, if you replace them with OEM you can be sure they will go the same way. Many cars don't have them fitted with no ill affects and I just pulled the bits between the coils out on my car a couple of years ago, and its not an MOT-able item.
  20. Ive always driven coupes, my first car was a Capri 3000GT in 1975 (I passed my test in it aged 18) and I had 4 more - all Mark I and 2 but never the hideous Mark 3. Followed those off with a Lotus Europa Twin Cam John Player Special in 1979 ( fanny magnet but an awful car - not as bad as the MGTF and MGF parts-bin cars I recently had the misfortune to own) Saw a gen 1 Celica around 1975 and was impressed - until I sat in one, the dashboard looked cheap and nasty with chromed plastic bits all over it, Looked like it had been made in Hong Kong, not Japan but it was a product of time and more durable than was thought in the 1970s when Jap cars and bikes were regarded by many as crap and wouldn't last more than a couple of years. Its grown on me since and I suppose is probably a classic (As with all classics - only if standard) I've only ever owned a Gen 7 and I'm afraid its not a patch on the Calibras I once owned. Im afraid to say for me, my Celica is a bit of a toy, not much more than a hobby. My working car is a Range Rover out of necessity. If I was offered a really, really good Calibra now, the Celica would be gone like a shot even though I like it.
  21. Drilled, slotted, grooved or dimpled discs offer no advantages over standard vented discs in a real world situation - as in road use, they cost more money for a start, pad wear is generally higher and as others say, prone to cracking. Also seem to suffer from premature scoring. The work well on bikes because they are exposed to the elements Okay for impressing passers-by who like looking through your wheels when you're parked up - (it takes all sorts) Money better spent on better things I think.
  22. You mean the bellows that always fall to bits?
  23. Now that IS nice, it looks so right, as for the GT4 I'd be dead in a week if I had one.
