hid kitssssss

Most people buy from HID's direct, they are the most popular in the UK.

6k is ice white, 8k is bluey, you would be safer with 6k in regards to not getting pulled all the time.

I have 6k if you can remember what mine look like from the night North East meet at Nandos

Also, in order for them to be legal I believe you must have headlight washers...mine are technically illegal but ive not been pulled as of yet. I do gte flashed by other drivers all the time though thinking I have main/fogs on

in order for HIDs to be legal they need to be in the projector style lights (like we have), but they also need to be automatically self levelling and have headlight washers on the outside.

Otherwise they're illegal.

So they are illegal in the Celica, but you'll generally get away with them. I don't know of anyone who's been pulled for HIDs in their car.

Most go for 5300k or 6000k as they're closes to legal colours. Former being white, latter being a slight bluey white.

Im not gonna go into legallity, its all bullsh*t lol, and nobody ever agrees on if theyre right or wrong.

To answer your question, go with 5800-6000k.

Its a nice colour, is plenty bright enough and is the one your most likely not to get issues with the police with.

I have hears that 8000k reflects off of raindrops so is useless in the wet.

Where from? Go to ebay and search for londoncolour. I bought mine probably about a year ago, and so have plenty of members since. The kits arent the cheapest on eBay but they are by far the best.

Dont get those £20-30 kits, they are mostly from far off countries and if they break, which alot do, your have all sorts of issues returning the faulty part. Londoncolour is a UK seller.

6000K looks good but 4300K will give the best light output...its the colour on stock HID cars such as audi, bmw etc. Also i would say DONT BUY FROM HIDS DIRECT. cant even be bothered going in to the hassle but it was a lot. their kits are shocking in terms of quality and yeah get digital slim ballasts...they perform much much better!

I have 6000k HIDs and they are SO much better than standard halogen bulbs. I have no issues with seeing where I go at night and I have only been flashed once by someone. Police haven't pulled me for them either even though I drove behind a copper for a number of miles - just manually level the lights so the beams aren't reflecting off their side mirrors. I think I have my headlight "level" at 3 or 4.

I personally wouldn't go for 4300k HIDs as I am more than happy with my 6000's - the white colour (with a very mild twang of blue) looks awesome. Plus I can see for miles lol.

Got mine off londoncolour on eBay for around £45 delivered. Bought the bulb holders too. Oddly enough I dont have the "UFOs" that others have got either :/ Ah well - secret bonus ftw! :D

The ruling, if it happens, will be next year. However at the moment cars which have HIDs on but don't have washers or self-levelling headlights are illegal under the Construction And Use Act, and technically driving a car which is illegal can lead to your insurance being invalidated.

In this present climate can anyone seriously doubt that most insurance companies would jump at the chance to avoid a payout if the car they are insuring is subsequently found to be illegal?

And anyway, HIDs are unecessary.

Here's the government opinion:

http://www2.dft.gov.uk/pgr/roadsafety/drs/hidheadlamps.html

Here's the direct quote:

"Therefore a HID headlamp unit sold in the after market should:

1. be type approved to ECE Regulation 98 as a component.

2. when fitted to the vehicle should enable ECE Regulation 48 to be complied with (although no government inspection will take place).

3. Comply with RVLR as far as "use" is concerned.

In practice this means:

1. The headlamp unit (outer lens, reflector, bulb) shall be type approved to ECE 98 and be "e-marked" to demonstrate this. That can only be done by the headlamp supplier - Hella, Valeo etc. who must test the headlamp in an independent laboratory.

2. Once fitted to the vehicle it must have headlamp cleaning and self-levelling (which can be for the headlamp or can be in the vehicle suspension - some expensive estate cars have "self-levelling suspension" and that is adequate). Also the dipped beam must stay on with the main beam.

3. The headlamp must be maintained in good working order, kept clean, and aligned/adjusted correctly like any other headlamp.

Under the Road Traffic Act 1988 it is an offence to supply, fit or use vehicle parts which are not legal.

In summary it is not permitted to convert an existing halogen headlamp unit for use with HID bulbs. The entire headlamp unit must be replaced with one designed and approved for use with HID bulbs and it must be installed in accordance with the rules stated above."

Have a read of this

But all of the above don't do any harm to other road users, HID's do

It depends how they're angled.

Badly aligned normal headlights, or driving with foglights on is just as bad as misaligned/overly bright/distracting HIDs...

Anyway, it's already ascertained that they're illegal without all the above-mentioned criteria, I was just saying that people put them on to get rid of the yellow tint of the bulbs and to be more aesthetically pleasing.

i don't have HIDs, i was purely looking at both sides of the arguement.

i'm out of this topic.

When I get my T Sport I'm gonna sell on my HIDs and stick with Osram Nightbreakers :) Gonna stay on the safe side of things with that motor.

General question; I have my HIDs declared with SKY Insurance but they've not said anything about them being illegal on my car. Do you think I'd encounter issues if I had to claim through them then?

Interesting point. I'll ask my Bro-in-law, who's an Insurance broker when I next see him. Why don't you ask SKY, just out of interest?

Best bulbs going IMO, much higher light output, less yellow, and fully legal.................. can't go wrong

Exactly, and driving with fogs on is also illegal when not foggy, but most people seem to from upon driving with fogs on, but think fitting HID's is perfectly fine shrug.gif

I just thought of it and I'm not allowed to make personal calls at work :(

Will give them a buzz when at home to find out, and will update here.

Yeah I lurve me some Nightbreakers - already got the whole kit at home (full beams, dipped beams and fog lights)

Just need the car now

On the Fiat 500 my mum has (and others I see on the road) you can't turn the fog lights off :o They are always on lol. You turn the little stalk switch to turn the sidelights/dipped beams on and off but the fogs are always on - apparently it's designed that way!
