Just to clarify .An mot is issued for a vehicle because it reached the required criteria at the time of test ,the issue of an mot certificate does not guarantee that a vehicle will be roadworthy even in 24 hours time (only at the time of testing) No one can cancel a valid mot certificate vosa/the queen whoever,and a new certificate pass or fail does not cancel an existing certificate It is an offence however to knowingly drive a vehicle in an unroadworthy condition ,or unknowingly for this matter So if you are issued with a failure notice the onus is on the presenter to rectify any faults before continuing to use the vehicle (exemptions to this are to and from an mot testing station)

  6. the difference is red antifreeze is monoetheylene glycol(synthetic) based ,and blue or green is glycol based ,the only difference between the two is the life and anti corrosion properties red has a life of 5 years or 100k miles blue/green has a life of 2 years or 30k miles there is absolutely no truth in the rumour that Toyota antifreeze is better than any other red longlife antifreeze on the market ,they are all produced to the same specs and all have the anti corrosion additives in for aluminium blocks/cylinder heads red antifreeze does however have a capacity to find its way through rubber seals and cause leaks easier than glycol based blue /green antifreeze

  8. it is down to the testers discretion if the noise is slightly louder ,but if its obviously much louder then it fails , fyi this is not really a new test criterea ,but has been made much clearer in the test manual due to rewording which happened on the 1st of jan 2012 ,so has been in force now over a year

  10. the police can only issue a pg9 (i think thats the one) you then have to take your vehicle to a vosa approved station for inspection and the defect to be signed off, quite simply an mot pass can not be cancelled in any circumstance ,
  11. probably not ,there is most likely going to be some small print that allows them a get out of jail ,however how would they know if you didn't tell them

I asked this question at a testers course .Once issued a mot certificate is valid for the time period it covers ie 12 months or whatever the balance to be added to the period is ie 12 months and up to thirty days (the maximum) The mot is current and valid and is NOT cancelled out by any other test ,pass or fail Once a pass has been issued it can not be cancelled by anyone ,not even the queen A fail does not cancel an existing mot ,,the only issue you have is the question whether the vehicle is roadworthy which if it has failed it is then deemed to be unfit and has not met the minimum required standard for use on the road .So as such the vehicle has a current mot on it but has a defect or defects which should be corrected before further use ,knowingly using a defective vehicle is an offence in itself

  14. hi forward facing lights with exception of fogs/indicators are required to be white ,iodine head lamps can have a yellowish or blueish tint and are acceptable lamps, but sidelamps are required to be white
  15. ? how do you know that the noisemeter was working correctly ,if they are going to penalise you using a industry standard piece of equipment it must be 1/ calibrated on a regular basis 2/calibration certificate available for scrutiny at the time of record (after the fact wont stand up in court ) 3/ operated in a correct manor with no close proximity to sound reflective objects ie walls other vehicles etc ,and not in any position to be influenced by outside forces ie traffic noise wind noise etc .and last but not least operated by trained personell,,write to them requesting to come and inspect the equipment used and view its calibration details on the meter ,also the calibration certificate that was current for the equipment used on your car on the day, wait for them to decline and then write back saying if they are not willing to provide documented proof and the opportunity to inspect the equipment you will take your chances in court
  16. they are a protective sleeve that fits between the tyre bead and the rim ,it protrudes past the edge of the rim to stop kerb damage to the alloy wheelsorry never heard of the car spa antmax beat me to it

  20. actually surprisingly strong wheels i had a set on a tarmac rally car and never broke one, just werent ideal as the set i had were multifit ,but if you are leaving them on the car and not having to remove them every time you come in to the pits they should be fine
  21. that would be the 98db max ,surprised they actually had a noise meter .if they used a phone app then it would never stand up in court ,no calibration certificate
  22. the limit is 89dba measured at a distance of 2.0 meters from the rear of the car at 3/4 of max rpm of the vehicle ,in rallying the limit is 86 dba at 4500 rpm at 2 meters ,or it can be measured 1/2 meter away then the limit is 98 dba ,the limits are taken from the vehicle construction and use tables ,all petrol engined competition cars are subject to noise test and if they pass the specified msa limits are under the actual lawfull limit, there is a mot fail for clearly unreasonable noise but who is to say what is unreasonable?
  23. its very hard to guage cos you see these on ebay etc making the 2k figure but then they are back on a week or 2 later because it was a friend of the seller bidding it up and they didnt sell ,i personally see it as a 2k car but i could be bias because its mine ,
  24. going to sell it very soon when i get my private plate transferred off, its a 190 vvtli 2001 with 86k on the clock, never got any service history but a check back on dvla shows the mileage to be correct compared to mot history ,standard car except for being lowered and the wheels ,last serviced in my own workshops ,complete and comprehensive service including lift bolts front tyres rear pads all the filters plugs gear oil brake fluid change ac regas, the full monty, so what is a reasonable asking price.the plate pictured is most probably the one that will be reallocated to it
