fuel line size question

Recommended Posts

ebay drew up nothing

however

measured the tanks ends and there showing a diameter of 6 mm with a flare of 8mm on the end , so depending on wall thickness i think im looking to get 8mm tubing at a wall thickness of 2mm , i may aim for more as collapsing of the walls would be a real bitch to suss out and given its already showing starvation i dont want to create yet another variable

oh and id simply lower the tank and bodge the new piping on and rip tie it to the existing the length of the car joining as high as poss in the engine bay

You'll be lucky to find anything with a wall 1mm thick and it would be a nightmare to bend causing ripples and kinks in it

If you want 8mm o.d., this'll be the stuff

10mm is a little overkill but I have big plans for the car

ta hon

after a google i found a reference from america that says its 1/4 inch so therefore 6mm , this was on a gen 5 ,,,,, and lucky for yourself in that the tank i have outside is off a st205 and is showing its 6mm internal diameter so it looks like there all the same across the 4/5/6 generations , i know the tanks are near damit identical on the 185 to 205 so its not really a suprise to see the hoses are the same

also i have this lined up ( pun not intended )

noting its to british standard

oh and a previous quote was £200 to have it fitted , parts lets say 20 quid so its only £180 an hour labour ,,,, bargain

yep know that feeling , the brake lines and the fuel lines converge at the back of the floor pan right in the line of fire of water , shit and dead animals , it then bends off to the passeger side where it runs happily under a plastic sheaf until it hits the front of the car and buggers off where it needs to go , the tubing from the back to the front is however plastic coated so is happily long lasting yeah ? well no as its got half a dozen 10mm bolts holding it up to the car and these bolts go through a feckin mild steel bracket thats untreated , a rust trap of gen 4 proportions , you try and undo a bolt and its snappy happy i can tell you , so you can either break the lot of and drill/retap/wish you had a car ramp or like my goodself rip tie it and pretend its a valid and quality repair if anyone asks

rubbery stuff so i can bend the dam stuff and follow the original lines ...check

thick so when i bounce it off the bazillion rocks we call a driveway it has half a chance of surviving ....check

not likely to deposit black shit into the injectors ... check

adam is likely to survive a drive out .... check

13mm outside dia is going to be interesting to hide , with the nylon i intended to thread it into the space in between the lines already there but i wont be able now booooo , still got to be done ,another quick look then order and hope for the best i say

ah

over 2 hrs and nowt to show for the trouble

lines happily landed , tug off the easy to get at line from the errrrrr from the injector rail ? something around there anyway , the other will need cutting , still tug line off ( easy ) , fit new pipewrok and screw ( super easy ) thread the new pipework neatly down the bulkhead ( pain due to 18 foot of the stuff ) get underneath and suss your not going to be able to work out which pipe is what unless you remove the sheld and given its been there 25 years in the line of fire of shit snow and rain then its going nowhere , snappy nuts ? not on my shift ,,,, so a rethink ,,,aha back to the front , tug the rear off and blow down it yeah and the line thats off will of course be easy to blow , its about 20 minutes before i suss that my heads not 2 inch wide and i havnt got a bit of pipe i can lash on the end to blow down ,,,ya bastard , so its guess and go for it , nothing ventured nothing broken yet ,,,,,,, pipe fitted to the tank and follow the lines yeah ? on pulling back the sheaf i find the reason why its weeping , the lines are rotted , not only the petrol line but the brakes , oh shitfuckbollocksandcrap , the lot need changing , i have neither a flaring tool , brake line or any inclination to go any further , someone else can do it changing the brakes at the same time , no point in changing the fuel line to have someone still have to remove the same stuff another time , i give up
