digs
Hi, maybe obvious...spray painted some spats I bought, do I need a final coat of lacquer or vanish to protect them ? Or is the paint enough ? Like I said, dumb question I guess

digs
i would personally add lacquer to make it abit more durable Cheers, worried it will not look right for some odd reason(does it change the look at all?), but that's just because they look spot on now after 2 days of spraying and sanding... yellowchinaman
yes. because your car is painted with base coat and clear coat meaning it has so why wouldnt you want to paint it the same?

tombrady
Toyota 040 white has no clear coat. When polished the pad goes white with paint. Unless later 040 is but I doubt it. Edited December 29, 2012 by tombrady

digs
Cheers guys. I suppose a clear coat can't hurt, little job for tomorrow then Edit : just learnt all about Toyota super white and that it has no clear coat, and why. Random bit of knowledge now stuck in my head it is superwhite I have used. Edited December 29, 2012 by digs
tombrady
a clear coat will make it look odd compared to the rest of the car.
Gstraw
Defo a clearcoat! Otherwise it will all chip off like tip ex. As for the car with no clear coat I've never heard of that before. It may be since the previous owner polished the car so much and removed it all?
c_jnz
x2, 040 is super gloss and requires no lacquer, confirmed by jawel paint who I get my paint from. Go ahead and Top coat it, true it won't hurt, but then again it won't look the same.
tombrady
Not if its prepped and sprayed correctly it wont chip as easily. Most gen6 celica colours were not lacqered, id imagine storm blue, tropicana & and orange were as I think they are metallic finishes.
RadiationBeta
Which blue was storm blue? Got a pic? Silver was clear coated as well ^^
digs
Not coated so far, wet out to test fit in the five mins of dry, so far not as glossy as main paint but very close. Will do a test on some piece of something to see what a clear coat will look like as well. Did see they fit nicely, even have the right holes in the right place to screw them on almost like rhat was intended... . Only say that because the side skirts didn't so needed to drill a couple of holes (and drown in paint and sealant and I bet they will still get rusty...) some strong tape as well and they should be pretty secure
tombrady
If its not as glossy, have you tried to polish it mate? Areosol finishes I find need a good buff. Storm blue - http://www.adrenalinemotorsport.pl/doc/Piotr_Sieniawski/Gt_Four170711014_730.jpg Not the best example, try get a photo of johnyboys one.
