reg transfer

Recommended Posts

My reg was put on a website by the previous owner, it is not a private plate, but looks like one cos it is single digit.

Had a phone call today, been offered 200 quid for it, they deal with all paperwork and 200 is what I will receive and I will get a random plate

from the same year.

Anyone ever done this, is it straight forward and

easy?

200 ?

so thats 200 minus the 80 quid transfer cost and vat and paperwork so you see 75 plusssssss you then need to get a set of plates made up with the new reg and technically you cant use the car during transfer until you have the tax disk into the new reg

id have a good read up on there terms before going for it

they call them arrangement fees , its well worth asking if you will need to pay this

to get the tax changed over normally is about 5 days via post or it can be done instantly if you turn up and do it assuming you can get all the paperwork , dont forget to tell your insurance company prior to this

Have a look on the number plate sites for a simular number as I think it could be worth more, I have a single digit "T" plate on the RAV4 that has a "2" and the same plate but a "3" was up for £2500, I rang the company up and they offered me £1700 plus a "T" plate to put back on.

Did they actually offer to send you a cheque for £1700, or sell the plate on your behalf and then send you £1700?

The plate would stay on the car until sold and then they would credit me the £1700 and supply a plate and pay the transfer fees. I would have got a good price yet they would make a decent profet with no outlay. And everyones a winner ;)

When you see an advertised plate with a specialist its more than likley still on a motor been driven around.

I thought so. What normally happens is the Cherished Plate Dealer advertises the plate at an extortionate price and the Plate remains unsold for many years. They (and you) may drop lucky and find a buyer, but it's very unlikely.

As an example, I bought a "LYN" plate privately a few weeks ago at around 20% of the price the Dealers were offering.

I've been offered cash for my wife's single digit plate with three letters that spells her name. And 200.00 is not even the starting price.

Apart from that there are two othe 'localish' people of the same name who also would like to be on a sell list. Unfortunately it's not for sale.

I paid 149 for it from the DVLA in 1991 and it's now been on 8 new cars since then. She got an unsolicitated email once from that CARREG outfit offering a couple of grand against a positive sale.

My RAV4 is a T plate but JIMMY FLOYD HASSELBAINK was the original owner and put a private T plate on for his girlfriend. He was only at Leeds for a short period after and sold it, I bought it unknowingly but the plate alone should create more money than I paid for the car

J3DLH. It's the original reg, means nothing to me so if it can get me any money it'd a bonus!

As long as the process is hassle free and no problems?

I had forgotten that it was even for sale.

Probably be arranged so it looks like J3D LH (JED LH)

£200 is low, but then you've go to thing, the middle man has t otake a cut aswell...

I'd say do it, it's either £200 and a new reg... or keep the current reg that means nothing to you, and you're £200 less off than you oculd be.

thanx deanbean,

although i think its possible to submit offers, im guessing shes offered 500, 200 to me and 300 fee to company?

found out today, that its a women who specifically wants DLH with any single digit prefix (deborah louise hughes maybe )

at the end of the day, its supply and demand, she wants the cheapest possible and its been on for years apparently and this is the only/first interest, and as said reg means nothing to me and if it can bag me 200 smackerronneys, then why not.

ill have to read the small print and ask the right questions, will the tax transfer from one reg to the other? will there be any time lag in which i wouldnt be able to legally drive the car? will my insurers charge me for changing the reg? How long will it take? will they supply new plates?

but if all the answers are ok, then why not.

Your Insurance Co will want an Admin fee, poss £25 to change the Policy. When I put my plate onto my Carina they wanted to up my premium by £200 as a New car, I did expalin to them in very simple terms it was the SAME CAR and the Same Drivers, so as a gesture of goodwill they only charged me £25.

You could always stick it onto a Retention Cert and find a buyer yourself.
