Hi all,

I am think about getting some new alloys for my G7. Thinking of a dark bronze colour.

Currently I am running tech 5s which I believe are :

 

17

5x100

7j

ET35

 

The thing is I'm running spacers on the front a rear.

27 rear 17 front if I remember correctly, which makes them look how I want them (pretty flush with the sills)

 

What width and offset would I need from a wheel to get the same look without spacers?.....I'm confused by this bit .

 

Hopefully the wheel master @Kev 16v is still on here to give me advice.

You're almost right about the Tech5 alloys, they are in fact ET38.

 

Firstly, why do you want to lose the spacers if you're happy with the stance?. If you want to have a good choice of replacement styles, the most common ET/Offset is 35, so just 3mm outboard of the Tech5's.

 

One option would be 7.5J ET35, move your 17mm spacers to the rear, and lose the front spacers (this is exactly what I'm running with 215 width tyres during the summer months). I would advise against going wider than 7.5J, as then you're into stretching the rubber, unless you fit 18" rims, which I'm absolutely dead against.

Thanks for getting back to me Kev. Old faces are few and far between on here these days. Cant believe how quite it is!!

The reason I wanted to drop them is mainly for ease when the wheels come on and off. I also fear the garage doing it in case they destroy the threads.

So with a 7.5J et35 would pretty much give me the same stance as I'm currently running if I lose the 27s and fit the 17s (3mm more if I read correctly)

How come your against 18s as I was thinking about them too?

I'm on coilovers but do get occasional rubbing know the rear

7.5J ET35 with 17mm spacers on the rear, would be almost exactly the same as your current stance (10mm difference from the spacers, minus 6.5mm from the wider rims, minus 3mm from the difference in ET).

 

On the front, the wheels would sit close to 7.5mm inboard (17mm spacers, minus 6.5mm, and 3mm).

 

The biggest problem I've had with spacers, is that the studs aren't tapered to help the wheel nut onto the stud. Thus making it much easier to cross thread.

 

Only consider 18's if you're far more interested in "show", than "go". You're likely to get conflicting opinions on here regarding 18's, but I can only speak from my experience.

Man....its complicated.
How come 7.5 is 6.5mm difference to 7? Isnt the .5 12.7mm? Is it because 6.5mm is half either side of the centre?

So the only ones I've found that meet the criteria some JR ones and Oz ones. They quite a price difference. Thought there would be more options in this size but I think I've shot myself in the foot with bronze colour. I really like the xxr 527s but they dont do them in the size I need

Agreed (I had a look for you yesterday, and could only find the JR rims at a reasonable price in bronze).

Cheers mate. I spent quite a long time searching yesterday. I did find a good website though of offset and stuff.

If you're looking at multi-spoke, how about the Pro Race 1.2?
 
Sorry if I keep harping on about this very light rim in previous threads, but unsprung weight really does make a difference, especially on the Gen 7.

I got my Prorace 1.2’s from Demon Tweeks through eBay, keep an eye on there as occasionally they have big discounts. Mine should of been £650 got them for £350.

Mine are 15”, use them for track wheels on my Civic, stupidly light even with tyres on.

I use Japan Racing JR7 for road, there lightweight as well.

When you say 'light' how light exactly are these any stats?

All I know is most alloys I've lifted are far from light, I'm trying to perceive the effect/difference on unsprung weight.
