  1. Damn, missed out on that one, got 2 corn snakes & a Beardie, but the snakes were only fed yesterday so I couldn't handle them today. Oh well, out with the fancy dress, (oh I mean uniform) later, That's if I remember.
  2. Been using Mer for years, mainly on my bikes, but it's pretty good stuff. Looking forward to my free sample. Cheers for the link
  3. I'm very sceptical about these additives which say that they do this & they do that. Quite a few years ago we did a test, on the Slick 50 that was meant to make your engine internals smoother & more wear resistant. We did measurements on the engine components before the engine was built, then did the test and stripped the engine to re-measure. Did the same to an engine which didn't have the Slick 50 added to do a back to back comparison. The result was that there was no difference to performance or engine wear. I will have a chat with some of the engine test & development guys at work tomorrow to see what their thoughts are, IF[/] these products were that good, wouldn't the car manufacturers be clambering on the band waggon to promote it in their products ? Also, alot of this it psychologica. You think you've put something in your engine that'll up the performance or fuel economy,99 times out of 100 it'll do nothing to it. IMHO it's all mind games, and marketing.
  4. Had this happen recently on my St202 where my off-side front wheel was too hot to touch. The caliper was seized, but it wasn't the sliders, it was the piston that was seized.
  5. I had caliper troubles yesterday, Front off-side piston seized but all sorted now. Kishan, when you say "Brakes" do you mean discs or Calipers or both ?
  6. Hmmm, my previous car history is pretty dire. 7. Was that from Brimmed tank to fuel light on or Brimmed tank to as far as you dare go ? I am doing an economy drive on my latest tank full on my ST202 just to see what I can get (only doing local to & from work trips ) so far I'm at 295 miles with the needle still above the 1/4 tank. Will see what I eventually get. My best ever is 400 miles on a trip to N.Yorkshire from Norfolk. did the last 45 - 50 miles with the light on and really bricking it as I had knew my route didn't take me passed any garages in the last 30 miles until I was about 1 mile from home.
  8. I know of at least three types of Tappet that are use on 4 stroke engines. Calibrated (solid) tappets Hydraulic Tappets Bucket & shim type Tappet This pic is of a hydraulic tappet As the distance from the top of the valve to the camshaft is constantly changing in an engine due to wear, the tappet sits in between the rotational movement of the camshaft lobe and the axial movement of the valve. Therefore over an engines life, in Theory it's eaier to change tappets than change valves. On cold mornings on engine start up, you hear much more mechanical top end noise from an engine with Hydraulic tappets as the engine oil is used to "pump up" the tappet to the correct gap. Bucket and shim type tappets are another alternative, Usually seen on motorcycles as their valvgear is smaller and it's more difficult to produce small hydraulic tappets. On some engines produced by GM, Mitsubishi & Toyota for example. there is another way of taking up the gap between the valve tip & cam lobe, This is by using a Roller follower & hydraulic lash adjuster. Without going into too much technobabble may I suggest that you have a look on google for this.
  9. Picked mine up from ORC's on Saturday and had VERY strict instructions from She in charge of house & catering AKA the Boss NOT to open it or even try & take a peek, as it's a Christmas prezzie for me. Only got 10 days to wait now
  10. Most of the lakes & rivers I fish, you can't get the car near to them. Mind you, it's a bit of a struggle to get all my gear in the Gen 6, unless I go set up for stalking carp. But it's the wrong time of year for that for me. Oh, just thought, I might have to borrow the m-in-laws Garden Gnome, she has one with a fishing rod
  11. Love the pink tape measure On a serious note, A very good step by step guide. Silly as it may seem, not everyone knows how to fix decals to a car.
