Alloy wheel refurbishing

Recommended Posts

So basically my alloys on my gen7 are in need of a refurb, but when enquiring on prices I was being quoted 500+!

So....has anyone refurbed there own wheels with much success?

The previous owner has curbed the front two quite bad, how would I go about rectifying this before painting etc?

On the bright side though there is a brand spanking new alloy wrapped in Pirelli rubber in the boot! That was a nice surprise!

I don't want to be left disappointed with the results after a lot of hard work and money spent, I can be quite picky! But over 500 for a refurb is ridiculous!

Can anyone help??

£500 to refurbish 4 alloy wheels is crazy. Usual price is £50 per wheel.

You could buy a set of alloys for that

Doing it yourself may leave you with results that you're not 100% happy with if you're quite picky though!

WTF? Who's charging you £500 to refurb a set of wheels? I've been quoted £50 a wheel from many a garage.

I definitely wouldn't pay that.

On the other hand, there are a few people on here who have done refurbs themselves and have had great results.

Don't know where you live but the going rate in Edinburgh is 168 a set for full refurb with tyres and 140 without.

Done last month.

I think you should just sell me yours wheels! they're exactly what I'm looking for! What colour/finish are they?

my quote was from the wheel specialist

EOM T-Sport. Satin black 30%.

Wheel Specialist are the most expensive franchise around. I got ripped off by the Edinburgh branch couple of years ago until I wised up to local Powdercoating companies who also do wheels.

Looks like a cracking job. Not been a fan of dark wheels as they always seem grubby but I have been wondering what stock wheels refurbed would look like on summat dark and lowered. Got any pics with them on car?

edit

ah... just been to gallery. Nice but I would have been tempted to match the blue. Have to get the photoshop boys on it.

I can get £35 per wheel (£40 with tyre in) and that's based on London rates, only thing I can think why it's gonna cost £500 is if the wheels are badly buckled as it cost money to weld etc

They're not buckled at all. That quote was just for refurbing. I was gobsmacked and judging by the prices you guys have been paying rightly so.

The only thing that concerns me is the curbing, one is quite bad, would they just smooth it out?

I would pay anything up to £250 in a heartbeat!

@greyracer - what's the 30% bit? the gloss/shine? I have the same wheels and would love mine to look like that! My car is chilli red and they would look sweet!

Anyone know any places around east midlands?

How south? lol

In my capacity of

"Between the lines reader" I would assume that whilst his brilliance in turning out wheelbarrows in Lotus JPS black and gold knows no bounds his geography is a little suspect as most would regard south of Dover as being on the wet side of damp followed by the land of cheese eating surrender monkeys.

Should he wish to send his friend round to inflict ball bearing adjustment it would be better if they were west rather than south, at least to start with.

You "don arf prattle on!" as my great, late second cousin, twice removed on my mothers, brothers, cats side used to say.

As it happens I live in a lovely little village NORTH of Dover...

Anyway... Yeah Dover.
