Good garage

I was wondering if there is a good garage guide somewhere on the forum?

I have used a local garage just round the corner for years and they always did a great job at a fair price. Unfortunately it now seems to have changed hands and the last couple of times I've needed anything from them I have felt like I was being ripped off. A few months back I was quoted over 500 for a ford puma clutch and this last week over 300 to replace the rad on my celica. Have to say a huge thank you to ams for sorting that one for me in the end.

Now I'm at a bit of a loss as to where to go in tamworth for decent service.

So is there, or could there be a list of decent garages that members have used and trust??

I can put you onto a really good and trustworthy mechanic who can also stamp your Service Book as he runs his own business with a fully equipped Workshop. Kev's labour rate is £40 an hour with no V.A.T., but he is about 45 minutes away from you in Tamworth (near J26 M1). I've known Kev since 1963, so we go back a long way.

I think having a Pinned thread on here, maybe in the Club members section for garages that have a good reputation from Celica owners wouldn't be a bad shout, for a point of reference.Just a short bit of info and contact details be very handy. This could also include bodyshops that have done good work on members cars.I suggested it be in the club members section to stop people registering for a bit of free advertising, and to keep it to garages personally recommended by genuine members.Just a thought. The supplier review thread doesn't seem to get much use, maybe a specific one for actual garage services and bodyshops may do in the club member section?

The best garage by far is MK Autos in Blackburn

http://www.celica-club.co.uk/forum/index.php?/forum/224-mk-auto-repairs-and-tuning-ltd/

Martin is unsurpassed when it comes to Celicas, there are many good garages that are Celica specialists but Martin goes that extra mile that makes the difference between a good garage a great garage. The only place I take my Celica to when I find a job I cant do myself....or cant be bothered to do myself. :) :)

Well worth the trip no matter where you are in the country.

Agreed Nial with regards to the likes of Martin, top service;but to be honest if you're in the south west for example, and your car is limping about you do need a local as possible solution ,so generally speaking i think a basic thread of different garages in different counties/countries could turn into a useful reference point for members.Sorry to semi hijack this threada bit Chris, maybe a suggestion in OT or whatever may see what people and the powers that be think

I think this should be listed in the newbies / paid part of the forum as for any new members and seasoned members will find it a benefit knowing a garage or paint shop is in there local area and what sort of prices people are looking at for labour and so on

I don't mind the thread hi jack!

Being quite new to the forum I'm not really sure what to do with it. Seems like it could do with being a sticky in one of the sections where some kind of list could be collated rather than comments made at random. This was a useful feature of the ford puma forum I used to belong to. It probably doesn't even need to be garages that specialise in celicas although that would be nice. Could even just be a local service, repairs and tyre place that people have had good experiences with.

Most of you members will know all about ams but his unit and workshop in Birmingham is exactly what I'm talking about. If I need anything like parts or have common celica problems I will definitely be going back to see him as he is really knowledgeable about the car. Not to mention being a great guy! It's quite far for routine work though and I'm not too sure how much he would want or is able to take on. Seems like a busy bloke which doesn't surprise me.

I would love some recommendations for my home town though. Many people here can do all their own servicing and maintenance themselves but there must also be a good few noddies like me who can barely change a broken bulb let alone start messing with their brakes!
