  1. Id question it. Iv been doing a lot of reading up on this and seen a lot of youtube vids now and it seems to be that pipe bending is a lot harder and expensive to do since decent computer controlled mandrel benders cost over 25k and price goes up sharply from that if wanting a unit than can do 3 inch or larger pipes. Various forums and blogs i checked (yes got a lot of free time) say welded joints are areas where there can be a restriction in flow due to the weld not being smooth inside the pipe and also being failure points where corrosion can start at. Generally it seems to be that exhaust builders that dont want to outlay the cash for a cnc mandrel bender go with welding which is a cheaper option for the shop. Im surprised since a shop that does so much exhaust work hasnt invested in a proper mandrel bending machine. The sharper bends are done with machines that fill pipe with sand or real expensive ones use liquid like water called hydroforming. Interesting videos to watch on YouTube.
  2. was just interested really as to why they used that approach.
  3. Debs how come your exhaust has so many welded joints? I would have thought they would have single pieces bent to shape.
  4. Would going 2.5 all the way from cat to backbox cause power loss then?
  5. odd, i measured the stock exhaust pipe on my 190 and its different diameters. the part that goes from the manifold into the cat is around 2.5 inch and the pipe that comes out the back of the cat and goes through to the back of the car is around 2.25 inch. shouldnt the system be a single size all the way through?
  6. Its shame stock ecu is encrypted, if it wasn't it would be good to get it remapped to use high octane. Probably out out the full 190 then lol.
  7. ahhh my dad did say he had a capri at one time. only car i can remember is the cortina, used to sit in there blasting the stereo with me mates when we were little. haha.
  8. Found another pic. Oddly enough watching youtube earlier today my mum said there was a pub in Wolverhampton where it was all bent out of shape. I googled and its called the crooked house. Mum said they went there over 35 years ago. Now hunting for old celica photos i came across this one. Can see dads yellow celica in the background and what do ya know its the pub in question too. Mum surprised to see the pic. High rez scans and Photoshop cleaning stuff up really make all the difference.
  9. Original photo is bad. Photoshop filters have cleaned up these pics so they look far better than the original. Nows the time to get scanning. I will get the pic of the possible datsun up in a different thread. Dont want to clog this thread up with non celicas.
  10. omg wow. unbelievable. i came across that photo while i was scanning old albums to digital format. iv not seen any more photos of it yet but there is few more albums to get through. did come across pic of another car but i think it may be a datsun.
  11. now im not sure on what car is in the pic but thats me sitting on the car. pic was taken over 35 years ago. my dad says it was his celica but im not sure if it is a celica or something else. its deffo a toyota. gov.uk check on the numberplate just comes up with a toyoa of year 1973:
  12. From shell website: https://support.shell.com/hc/en-gb/articles/115005935369-What-is-Ethanol- "This means that, in the UK, Shell regular unleaded and Shell V-Power unleaded are likely to contain some ethanol, but it will not be present at more than 5% (in accordance with current UK specification requirements)." So yep vpower also has ethanol and they charge like 15p per litre more than momentum99.
  13. Thats good to hear. Iv got petrol lawn mower and pressure washer which i run on momentum 99 just to make sure i get as less ethanol as possible since these engines sit around for a lot of time ethanol can be bad for them. Apparently esso does ethanol free fuel but i cant get any of it in Coventry.
  14. Plastics too which is most of the interior in jap cars.
  15. i saw a youtube video that explained that ethanol fuel has less energy density measured in BTU's so if fuel amount is not increased then it can cause engine to run hotter. this was a carb engine they were showing it on saying the carb jet needs to be bigger to get more fuel through it. but i cant remember if this was e85 or e10 now. im guessing fuel injection engines the ecu will auto compensate this with longer injector duty. does mean with e10 you get less miles per tank so you have to use more fuel to do the same mileage which means more emissions? dunno if its actually going to be beneficial to the environment.
  16. Very easy to prove with independent report even AA or RAC will provide it if your broken down. If they see the fuel lines rotted out or bits of rubber clogging up fuel injection pump then you can get replacement engine etc done at government cost. However thats if your car is listed as compatible with e10 on that gov.uk link. If not then that means government has not cleared your car to be e10 safe and you out the fuel in at your own risk. I know some classic car guys who have changed out just the fuel hoses and some o rings to ptfe lined or teflon or something which is like e85 compatible so they are ok for it since they got fuel injection engines. Carb guys got more issues and there was a large thread on mg forum about high ethanol fuel causing leaner burn and more heat. But mg = rover so nows a good time for them to stock up on headgaskets.
  17. https://www.whatcar.com/advice/owning/e10-petrol-what-is-it-and-how-could-it-affect-you/n18069 currently E5 has no issues but will E10 nacker our cars out?
  18. Forgot to ask whats the diameter of the exhaust you had made it looks massive compared to stock? From the pics it looks like a 4 inch. I think a standard 190 exhaust is 2.25inch or 2.5 inch. Not sure though.
  19. my fiesta has original factory cat on it which is now 26 years old. car has 83k miles on it and still passes emissions so cat still works. aftermarket cat i be lucky if its still passing mot after 3 years. but then iv seen people pass emissions with a hollowed out cat too. so i guess it may be down to engine condition, tune etc etc allowed emission is 0.2% my fiesta scored 0.013%
  20. One thing i hate is that drowning noise on the motorway. Iv been in some chav cars and no way i can last even a short trip when exhaust is making that noise constantly. Also how much more does a titanium system cost?
  21. that Alunox will easily outlast the car lol. who knows maybe you can sell it on in 20 years time and get most of the cash back cant say the same for my fiestas exhaust clamps: replaced it originally with the same type. but little do people know how long i kept this car. used as a daily driver for 23 years the replacement clamp died again. this time i was a lot older and smarter and went with stainless steel band clamp. will check it again in 20 years time hopefully its not rusted up like the previous ones lol.
  22. not sure but those that got in on the group buy for the invidia n1 are laughing now, i should have got in on that action but was afraid it may be too loud. i prefer off the shelf systems like magnex (have one on the fiesta cost £280 from demontweeks in 2002 so lasted 19 years and still looks mint), milltek, etc. they are stainless steel and usually good on price. powerflow dealers usually sort out catbacks for 300 ish too. i like the sound of the original exhaust, its quiet when pootling around and even in lift you can hear the engine rather than the exhaust. when the time comes and i need a replacement i will get one that is a replication of the original one but in stainless. dont get me wrong im not knocking the quality of it, but for the cost i paid £280 inc vat + £15 fitting for my fiestas magnex catback system and its served me for 21 years and still going strong. i ask myself what more would a 800 quid exhaust have offered me over my 280 quid one? pics are from a wheel alignment few years back.
  23. Manifold back exhaust from mr t inc cat is 1200 from listers toyota. Could probably haggle them down a little too. Cant help but feel that you over paid for that exhaust in my own personal opinion. Not saying it's bad quality or anything like that just that me personally cannot justify buying a catback exhaust system that costs as much as the car does.
