  2. I would say look out for a nice late as poss gen 6, they are well built and go on and on (and they dont tend to be full of mystery rattles )
  3. Mr Inland Revenue Chan, not car tax
  4. Definately not that here, been driving them for years now but the last couple of months or so there has been a lot more - i remember seeing a gen 6 vert last year driving through the village and thinking nooo i'm the only vert in the village
  5. I've started to see more gen 7s around and also quite a few 6's recently. Someone nearly kerbed his GT4 gen 6 looking at mine as i was waiting to pull out of work carpark the other day , and then a funny moment when i was waiting to pull out and one went by on the other side of the road, we were both looking ahead and both craned our necks at the same time to look at each others cars resulting in an exchanged grin as we caught each other
  6. The cotton sheet lies against the car, if the cover moves with the wind it moves against the sheet so doesnt rub against the paintwork. My cover has been off three times to check the car since mid December and it has been fine
  7. no the inner isnt fleece but it is very good, my cotton sheet cost me £2.50 from the local charity shop.
  8. This is why Ken got me the Halfords one, I did the same with the tie to all four wheels and it has remained waterproof as well , well worth the money
  9. It was ouch cos in my shock of the sudden pain i didnt wind down the throttle and i didnt tell anyone when i got back just tried not to limp
  10. Got to a ditch and nearly tipped it, foot slipped off peg as i accelerated and got dragged under the wheel
  11. For driving in snow yes narrower is better than wider Goodyear Ultragrip are good , and no need to buy new, plenty of partworns around. Even though we didnt have so much snow this year the performance of the winter ones in the colder weather and ice was great
  12. Nooo didnt mean right now  keep eyes open for bargains over the next few months and by December you'll be ready for it Ha, love the pic, we have one here - i managed to run my own foot over whilst offroading in the woods a few years back
  13. When needed to sort out the gen 5 value i was advised to look round for adverts and take notes, def get some trader prices as they tend to be more. The R reg Hyperwrap put a thread up re earlier would be one to note as a start though i realise that has a lot less mileage. The claims department will be doing the same after yours has been inspected by their engineer. And when they make you an offer DO NOT ACCEPT IT , a hesitation followed by telling them you dont think thats going to be enough to replace it plus having a few details and prices will usually squeeze another £200/£300 Glad you got sorted so quckly with the bits you needed
  14. Pick up a set of cheap wheels Chan and get some secondhand winter tyres , doesnt cost much but saves your good wheels if you swap over December and back on in March/April. Gives you much better grip
  15. No prob, gen 6 and gen 5 both good in the snow
  16. Jeez he did a job on that Wickie I'm about Friday if you can get into their yard and need help with bringing rescued bits home. Was glad to hear you sounding relatively undamaged , bloody idiot driver Did you have any luck sorting wheels?
  17. When i had the 40 profile on the gen 6 i always did 32 psi
  18. Oops looks like theirs start from the gen 5 hood , you're too old

  20. http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_565261_langId_-1_categoryId_165611 decent cover but best to pick up a couple of cotton sheets (i got some from charity shop) that stops any movement of the cover rubbing the paint for 3/4 months is relatively short time so prob just take the battery off fuel i usually fill up and add special additive to keep it fresh, but saying that i would be storing car for up to six months so maybe not necessary. The reason for not draining the car of coolant/fuel or anything is to avoid probs with condensation being on axle stands will save getting a flat spot on tyres LEAVE THE HANDBRAKE OFF or it will no doubt seize up make sure it is clean under the cover, if can give it a good wax/polish and clean interior stick a dish (or put in ashtray and leave open) some bicarbonate of soda crystals. That will absorb any odours
  21. My vert is regularly off the road for at least this sort of time over the winter. When i get home later i'll put up another post with some tips no need to even think about selling it
