Why is it that the same make tyre has different 16" + 17" ratings?

HERE the rating for 17" is

FUEL: B, WET: B, NOISECLASS: 2 - don't know sod all about these tyres but comparatively the ratings are v.good

but here the ratings for the same tyre in 16" HERE is

FUEL: E, WET: B, NOISECLASS: 1 - rating on fuel not so good, but better noise rating.

Admittedly i know bugger all much about tyres but it just looks odd to me.

Answers in layman terms please

The noise rating is about right as the bigger side walls of the 16 will absorb more vibration and transmit less to the car.

The 17s are 10mm wider than the 16s so might explain a slight difference in wet grip but I doubt it would make that much of a difference.

Personally I don't trust the new style of rating much. If you go onto www.mytyres.co.uk they link to tyretest.com which I pay far more attention to than the EU ratings.
