  1. Just spewed tea all over my keyboard!! Cheers mate! Very good!
  2. A white Gen 1 Celica with red Toyota works colours on the back of a recovery truck between Happenden and Abington services on the M74 yesterday?? If you did it was just like mine.....but it wasn't mine........not really.....just a look alike..................
  3. Grey Racer..............WOW! Stunning driving roads! Chan.......I see a lot of the M6 in mine......does that count? I know all the shell V-Power garages en route!
  4. I hope they don't just pick on Celica's! Some of the Scooby boys are worth pulling with their oil drum sized tailpipes......that alone should be an offense! I bet my induction noise is louder than 82 db............
  5. Kudos Bryan...I don't know you but you are a gentleman in your dealings on here and it is obvious that Simon's family appreciate it. You stepped forward when needed.
  6. I too joined after Simon's passing......but I quickly learned that he has left a legacy here and his build thread is a source of both information and inspiration.....and it will touch many others along the way. Gone but not forgotten. Kind regards, Brian
  7. I can understand that......but if you just say to him in the right way...."look mate......there's something scraping at the back wheel"....he's hardly likely to take offence......and I'm sure he would want it to be right too!
  8. Real life example.....my TA22 with 13 inch wheels when doing a true 70mph my speedo actually read 77mph....because my speedo was wildly optomistic. Changing to 14 inch wheels when doing a true 70mph my speedo actually reads 70mph....
  9. The scary thing is that it did it to my wife's RAV 4...luckily in the drive way so she got the spare key and got in.........not so cool if you are away from home!! Is this a common Toyota thingy?
  10. WOW! Cheers! I never thought for one second that a part number would be on Google! Looking good....uprated brakes here I come! (
  11. Forgive me if this isn't the right place to post but it get's a lot more traffic than GEN1 section! I am trying to find out what model and year of Corona my front struts come from and I have taken the part number from the strut.....does anyone work at a dealer that could find out for me?? It would really be appreciated as I can then move forward to uprating the brakes!! Part no: 48520-20020 and underneath part no is AL9 KYB Any help would be appreciated as it helps me to source parts....all I know is that they are late 70's early 80ish? cheers guys! (
  12. Well I grew up with Gen 1's but even back then after market bit's weren't available in the way they were for the Escorts.....I got parts from TTE second hand from John who managed to get them because he was a Toyota dealer. There are still some RA28 GT's out there.......(
  13. Joining this Forum was the best Tenner I have ever spent! Looking at you guys with the newer stuff make me envious how you have so much choice of EVERYTHING! Wheels, body kits, suspension, interiors, engines, tuning etc. etc.. When your car is 36 years old and Toyota don't really support it anymore it's difficult to get just what you want or need......but people on this Forum have really , really helped me out and it's been a life saver! Thanks to everyone.....from Gen 1 to Gen 7 and beyond! (
  14. When you drive a Gen 1 nobody wants to race you! They take pity on you......until you creep forward and blip those Dell Orto's and they hear the bronze clutch screech as it bites......and then they don't know what to do! (
  15. Well done and thanks for making this an informative, friendly and good place to be!(
  16. I'm far too biased to be objective! I got my first Celica in 1975 and it got a hold of me......so much so that I had to find another one from that era to have fun in! Sorry for the totally useless post! (
  17. On the way to watch this years Jim Clark rally I had a puncture in my wifes Focus. It had new Goodyear Eagles on it and I was gutted! I couldn't drive around with the spacesaver on all weekend so I stopped at a tyre place in a small vilage.....the only tyre that they had that matched the tread was a Hankook RS2....so I got one fitted. I have to say that it outperforms the Goodyears because I can go round right hand corners quicker than I can go round left!!
  18. Don't have it on Re-circ........if you do it will always mist up.......even when you are driving. 35 years ago when Toyota started to happen over here I was a mechanic for them and the number of times I had to switch from Re-circ to stop misting up is countless! It was for their domestic market where traffic jams were heavy and it stopped drawing in the fumes from the car in front.....
  19. I couldn't conceive of going anywhere without a spare tyre! Then again I am an old fashioned git! Anyone waiting for the AA better not be in a hurry..............!!
  20. Glad you are ok........it could have been much, much worse!
  21. I don't know how old you are but it doesn't matter! It doesn't change when you get older........getting a new car of your dreams is always too many sleeps away! Enjoy!!
  22. If he's going to all the trouble of painting them he might as well re-washer them and polish the pistons too......no point in only doing half a job!
