  1. ah, so that crunching and grinding sound isn't normal then? only, all my cars have made it when trying to change gears... Well, I've ordered the new knob and got a custom shift pattern decal to stick on the plastics too seeing as it doesn't have the shift pattern on the knob itself Hopefully it'll look awesome and make a big difference.... *fingers crossed*
  2. thanks Adam i'm pretty sure I'm pressing the clutch in. that's the middle pedal, right? maybe it's cos i'm short and can't push the clutch in all the way?
  3. I think a gearbox oil change will be on the cards as well then just to be sure. Hoepfully get the knob soon so i can see how it feels in my hand tee hee
  4. that 2nd to 3rd is indeed a pain. Well, I'll see how the slightly longer gearknob helps. For the sake of maybe a cm it might not do anything... I doubt it'll be as bad as the standard shifter though! Hopefully the brushed alu will spruce up the cockpit too (sheesh, all this talk of knobs and a cockpit )
  5. found a couple of interesting reads about short shifters and longer gearknobs http://www.twmperfor...rt-shifter.html with a niftly little animation http://forums.evolut...ifter-knob.html discussing the pros/cons of shortshifters and longer gearknobs. basically it's down to personal preference I think unless you start taking in depth measurements I'm not racing, so doubt it'll severely affect my 1/4 mile times
  6. I think i'm due a service soon anyway, so maybe i'll get the gearbox oil changed for piece of mind. Have ordered the 150g Razo knob too, so hopefully that little extra length and weight will give a more positive shift with a bit more leverage. Fingers crossed. Will have an Auris gearknob for sale soon
  7. Contemplating these 3 knobs for a little extra leverage... http://www.amazon.co...32936345&sr=1-2 http://www.amazon.co...2936345&sr=1-20 http://www.amazon.co...32936345&sr=1-4 Very nice knob! (no homo) My g/f isn't overly keen on the Celica... too low, too noisy, too treasured by me ... but we only have the 1 car, and she's grateful that I let her drive it, so she can't complain too much. But i just don't want her getting in trouble/stuck because she can't get in reverse Plus i'd like a smoother shift. ah, thanks! I hadn't checked the engine bay to see, but i figured it was probably something that you'd have done * this one's 400g i imagine that will help with the shift? or this one is cheaper but only 150g i quite like the brushed dark silver. imagine it'd get cold in winter though
  8. That's what I was thinking... a slightly taller knob () Maybe I'll browse the interwebz for a decent one. I did see a Razzo one I liked. Oh, and it's only the g/f who needs to use to hands to get into reverse cos she's weak
  9. Right, first up, I have a shortshifter installed by previous owner, and have the leathery/plastic Auris gearknob. I've noticed that sometimes it can be a bit tough shifting between 1st, 2nd and 3rd, and can be quite an effort to shove it into reverse too. (I had a similar issue with my 140 but didn't have the shortshifter so the changes were a little less precise anyway.) This shifting does get a little easier once the car's warmed up and been running for a while, but it can still happen. It annoys me, as the shifting isn't as smooth as I'd like, and it annoys the missus as she has to use both hands and push hard to get the car into reverse! - Is this something that will go away if the gearbox oil is changed? - Do I need to lubricate the shifter mechanism itself somehow? - Would a longer and/or weighted gearknob help the matter? Albeit with a possible reduction in the effectiveness of the shortshifter? I can't remember if the bushes in the engine bay are the original or the uprated brass variety... (I swapped to the brass type in the 140, and didn't think they made too much of a difference anyway) Are all Celica gearboxes just a little clunky like this, or is it just mine? ... My experience of the 140 and the T-Sport leads me to believe that it's just a trait of the Celica gearbox, but maybe I'm just doing something wrong... Help please!
  10. i had too much going on to attempt it to be honest. might give it a try at some point, but have had too many other priorities
  11. wider on the back is good for rear wheeled cars (look at drag cars), but I don't think it'd work very well on a front wheel drive.
  12. It takes about an hour, maybe more depending on traffic to get to RTP from inside the A406 in East London... sooo probably add half an hour or more longer depending where you're from in Essex.
  13. never had any issues with the K&N Typhoon on my 140. as soon as the car's moving there's a steady stream of cool air hitting the short ram intake anyway.
  14. I've got some OEM Toyota Celica mats for sale for £30 inc postage. (they are a nice dark black, but in the pic the flash makes them look lighter) http://www.celica-club.co.uk/forum/index.php?/topic/134774-toyota-celica-car-mats-used-l30-inc-postage/
  15. sorry to see the damage mate changing lanes on the brow of a hill though? hopefully it's purely cosmetic damage
  16. I'd not buy those ones exact ones though, as they aren't for the ST202 But CamSkills are prob the best place to buy them from...
  17. so the owner's an OAP paedo with bad taste in bodykits?
  18. rancid sideskirts jup, it looks like the vent on the right side, but if you look closely you can see it's a cheap and nasty eBay rearfog.
  19. i'd just get a replacement screw bit from someone on here. cheaper than calling out a tow truck cos you've got a flat and no spare to get you home...
  20. It's in properly.. or at least there's no other way it can go in, and it's not loose at all. I think the 'halo' is from a little hole in the headlight lens that lets a little extra light through (or at least that's something I read once)
  21. that's with high beam on, i think...? the picture of his beam shows a lot more of the higher areas illuminated rather than the driveway itself where dipped beams would light.
  22. the rules will be getting more strict this year... pretty sure they're gonna be clamping down on the HIDs, and seeing as the 7's don't have headlight washers or auto-levelling, i don't even want to risk a fail.
  23. i didn't see the point in just changing the HID bulbs; they're gonna be an MOT fail soon, regardless...
