  1. I'm a cheapskate - I made my own using the original cap.
  2. I took my Police Officer Son to a pysio session today at a Kent Police HQ, while there I had a bacon butty and coffee session in the canteen along with a few PC's and traffic officers. I know we all regard them as the enemy, but (mostly) they are great guys and love cars and bikes and are just doing their jobs. We got chatting about motoring in general and I bought up the subject about roadside exhaust noise tests as mentioned in this thread (no forum name was used). They had heard of them but didn't know they were in use yet. I remarked about the test procedure such as revving the engine to a pre determined RPM level for a reading and they all agreed that was dangerous ground to tread on. One of them said he has a fully serviced diesel car and he still shudders during his MOT on the smoke test when they rev the engine under no load in case his cam belt snaps, he agrees to this being done to get his MOT but is not happy with it. All in all the general opinion was one of horror at asking somebody to rev their engine and have a belt snap at the test scene and the possibility of being held responsible for it. A bit of advice offered was when asked to do the revvy bit, ask the Officer to record in his personal note book, that you are not 100% sure about your cam belt serviceability and will he take responsibility for any damage as the engine is being revved at 'HIS' request. One said "who does the revving? I certainly wouldn't rev somebody elses car in case of mishaps" He reckons not a PC in the land will risk putting that in his book and chance a damaged engine being his fault. The above info was gained under a general chit chat and I'm not saying it will work 100%, but it may be worth a try.
  3. Welcome. That's the way they are. Sticky on the back and fit on the outside of the glass.
  4. Batty will or should charge from tickover, higher revs does not mean higher volts. As for a full fill up of V's and A's, no idea, just go for a nice run and all should be ok. If you put the batt on your car and it starts in the morning all is looking good. If batt is fooked the charge will bugger off overnight and you wont be able to start your car with it, so be prepared for the worst.
  5. Come on Meat ... did it start?
  6. All you can do is try it, I reckon it'll be fine tho. Come morning you should have enough V's and A's in the batt to fire up the car.
  7. I'll 2nd the dishwasher approach. Get the most crap of with degreaser or whatever you can and then when it looks clean stick it the dishwasher on it's own (NOT with dishes) or with other engine parts. During my speedway racing days all my sprockets and even the chain went in after each meeting and I never got moaned at once - because she was at work when I did it  . Stealth is the best method, what they don't know etc etc. During engine rebuilds the components got the same treatment. The only time I got caught was when I was washing my wheels (with tyres) in the bath and she came home from work early, the fact I was using the bath was OK (ish) and I sort of got away with it with a slight nagging, the fact I was using her best shampoo to do it with with was my downfall.
  8. You could try your local Kwik Fit and take them up on the 'if it don't work you don't pay' offer they have. I know people don't usually have a good word for Kwik Fit, but I've never had any trouble with them.
  9. I presume your Dad is going to foot the bill.
  10. This may an example of physics in action or it may just be me. Just lately during this cold weather when I've been out in the car (Gen 7) with the heater blowing nice warm air around my legs, I'm sure I get a waft of colder air from somewhere when cornering, just for a second or two, but deffo cooler. Maybe some cold air is lurking in the footwells or somewhere and being heavier than warm air is getting moved around by centrifugal force on the bendy bits, well thats the Slugster physics theory anyway . It may be in my little mind but I'm sure it happens. The heater works fine and the car has no air locks or damp spots and is using no coolant. Has anybody else experienced this or should I give myself a damn good talking to for being a daft old git? I would have put this in the G7 section, but I'm sure I've had the same thing happen on other cars.
  11. Happy Anniversary Slugster!

  12. I'm not sure I like the outer part of the roof being black, it seems a bit 'top heavy' to me. Also the top of the front wing in front of the A post seems a wee bit unfinished, where the black suddenly hits silver. If it was mine I'd have just gone with black bonnet, roof and boot/spoiler. But, it's your car and you're damn well free to do whatever you want with it.
  13. Us Dahn Sarf Kent people are nice really. Jamie, have you ever had at shufty at KCC? http://www.kentcarclub.co.uk A great bunch of guys with regular meet ups, inc club stands at many big shows this year. Plus we all talk proper like, not like them Northern Monkeys .
  14. Looks that way to me, the red tube is poss a plug to stop anything coming out in transit. I'd do as it says on that site, or contact whoever you got it from for more info. Quoted from site.... "As as side note, always be sure to remove the small red sealed tube when installing the battery. Never put this red tube back on to the battery after it is activated."
  15. Some batts have them and some don't. It lets the battery breath when charging and prevent a pressure build, or so it says here .... http://www.yuasabatt...?action=1&id=12
  16. Slugsters tip of the day .... Plain diesel is a magic penetrating oil, it gets in there like a good un! If you want a fancy brew add a wee bit of CV grease to diesel and shake well for added graphite. Sprayed or brushed on it will get into the crud and loosen it. Also ... Whenever I remove a nut or bolt it is NEVER replaced without a good smear of copperslip. You never know when it may have to come out again.
  17. No worries. Thanks for fast answers, much appreciated.
  18. Damn. Can you give me a quick why not so I can advise the guy?
  19. Please help I need an answer here as soon as poss. Got a poss sale of my wheels. Will a set of original 5 spoke 16" wheels 5 x 100 fit a Gen 6 GT4? Cheers.
  20. Acetone. Have a shufty at http://superglueremover.org/ to see about nail varnish remover. Or maybe you need a.... Thermic Lance, that'll shift it!
  21. I have days like that as well. Them damn gremlins hide stuff when you aint looking. I've been known to spend hours looking for a spanner, only to find it in my pocket after I've found another. My day today consisted of digging out soil and grassy crap to make a new parking area for wifeys car. I thought I'd dump the grassy stuff in our compost bin to do my bit for the environment and be good. The compost bin has laid dormant for a few months so I was expecting a bit of a stink or maybe a rodent or 2 when I lifted the lid..... Whoa no smell or ratty - just a fooking great hibernating grass snake! I screamed like a girly and ran for help, all wifey did was stand and laugh at me for being as she said ... and I quote "A total f*****g wuss". So go enjoy your bargain bucket for one, I've got a chinese for two and if wifey is a good girl and stops laughing I may let her have some as well. I hate frigging snakes.
  22. If the bolts have a 10mm head they will be M6 thread. If you want them anodised then you will be looking at aluminium bolts. Aluminium bolts are for non load bearing areas only. I've replaced most of my under bonnet fixings with new shiney stuff and I don't recall finding any M6 bolts over 25mm long. I tend to buy bolts of at least 50mm long and cut them down to the same size as the one I'm replacing as I hate to see excess thread sicking through a nut, 2mm is more than enough. A lot of anodised stuff will have allen heads and these can improve the look of an engine bay a good deal, for M6 allen bolts you will need a 5mm allen key. Bike sites are a good place to find shiney fixings and nut/bolt related stuff.
  23. Yeah sort of, thesherv sings his merry songs and we sit back and giggle gently amongst ourselves about people who keep missing the 'D' off the end of the word 'second'
  24. Not only the neighbours, it annoys the hell out of me as well.... BOOM BOOM BOOM! while trying to work. But we also hear the Elephants trumpeting and the big Cats growling as well through the year, so fair do's. I've sent a PM re KCC as sherv cryptically mentioned in a previous post. edited owing to sherv posting before I did.
  25. I went to Gravesend once .... it was shut! I'm down the M20 near Folkestone Racecourse, in a quaint little village called Lympne.
