  1. Yeah ive done the slab type thing before,i just need a jack to stop all the fannying about, especially in the event of a flat or something when youre on the move...,if the tyre goes down pretty quick then youre looking at a lot of grief on the hard shoulder...i do have the original jack to start things off with mind. Serratias jack looks a bit flash if you can find the right one Was also told to look at these, theyre actually one of the sponsored links on Google http://www.sgs-engineering.com/hydraulic-jacks/trolley-jacks/tjl2-2-tonne-low-profile-trolley-jack#customer-reviews
  2. Weight wise,1.25 should be plenty as i always prop up with an axle stand then move to the other side .I only really ever have pretty much half the cars weight on the jack at any one time.Ive got a 40mm drop and the front end sits pretty low ive only got 16s on a low profile 45 tyre so the clearance is minimal. Clarke ones look ok.Top of my budget TBH.I do prefer the idea of 4 wheels rather tha a roller i think
  3. Been looking at a few different jacks ,i've had my standard one for absolutley donkey's years now,and i reckon in the next few months im going to have to get another, mainly as i need a low entry racing jack because i have a hell of a job with mine. What jack do members with lowered cars use?Any recommendations? You can spend a bloody fortune, obviously i want to get a decent one but i've seen a couple from about 40 quid onwards http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Liftmaster-Low-Profile-2-Ton-Hydrualic-Trolley-Car-Jack-/251198165947?pt=UK_Lifting_Moving_Equipment&hash=item3a7c93d3bb http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Liftmaster-Low-Profile-Aluminium-LED-Racing-Trolley-Jack-1-5-Ton-GS-CE-/251067683698?pt=UK_Lifting_Moving_Equipment&hash=item3a74ccd372 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2-Ton-Low-Entry-Trolley-Jack-/170961323065?pt=UK_Lifting_Moving_Equipment&hash=item27ce16c439 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ALUMINIUM-TROLLEY-JACK-RACE-CAR-CTJ1250A-7621800-CLARKE-/400300923733?pt=UK_Lifting_Moving_Equipment&hash=item5d33cb5b55 ..and beyond. i need to keep it well under 100 quid TBH,cheaper the better, but are the 35 quid ones really any good? What do you guys use
  4. Tabbas got a corker,he'll tell you soon enough
  5. Ha no worries I keep seeing your car these days I drove past it parked up Wallis ave in Park wood the other week I was cutting thru to Boughton. Nice to see it getting used
  6. Kinda think 1 would look good...by the way I gave you a flash, last week i think it was,you were on the A20 maidstone bound just past Preston Hall in traffic just before the roundabout .Mind you i was in a grey Focus LOL
  7. Bit late for Christmas, but PM Slugster for anything like this, keyrings and all sorts..he can do almost any design you want, I got a bespoke gen4 one done
  8. ABS is a pain in the arse in snow.Celica would be ok enough in snow if fitted with winter tyres, otherwise its a lottery the same with any other FWD car.I had a 4WD 205 GT4 with no ABS,possibly the finest car to drive past Merc's and BMWs with ,especially on a snowy road, giving a bit of controlled power slide as i sailed past serenely, with a hint of PSSSHHH thrown in for good measure. :xmas_cool: Other than that, the Paul plan is the best.Leave the sports coupes wrapped up warm and bring the big guns out instead.
  9. http://www.ebay.co.u...=item460609a7c4 http://www.ebay.co.u...=item1c284b2896 outer CV?
  10. Easily sorted for a mechanic, make sure you get one for ABS-specific or non ABS mate
  11. A new set of brakes and tyres is usually more than an average gen4 is worth these days LOL.Hopefully it isnt anything too drastic mate.Let us know what the score is,and then if you find its a bigger problem than you anticipated we can work on getting it sorted
  12. Going by your first post i would have said a ball joint or something on that area of the track rod had obliterated itself, but the fact you havent been able to turn the wheel properly at all is worrying Darren i have to admit.I hope it can be sorted ok mate
  13. Lets hope i dont need it lol. Wouldve been nice to pay a member to do it but i noticed on the half hour drive to the bodyshop last week it was sounding rough hence im getting it looked at asap.Really didnt want to drive too far, handily its a few minutes up the road .A mate has used them and says theyre decent so ill give it a go
  14. I spoke to Adex about this but ideally in case of any issues i was hoping to keep local so a mate recommended the Britannia garage up the road from me ,hour and a half labour with me supplying the kit is around 80 quid.its in walking distance handily too.so taking it in next tuesday
  15. I could be wong,i dont use them very often luckily.Going to enquire at a couple of local garages that a mate has said are decent.i might even get a quote from mr T for a laugh.
  16. I was running on the assumption a garage would ve at least .60quid an hour Bri ,and worst case up to 3hrs if they have a mare (its a gen4)
  17. When i get my car back from the bodyshop i need to get the front bearing done.if i supply the kit,how much do we think would be reasonable to charge for the labour, itll have to be pressed out.couple hours of work there i guess?just so i have an idea before i commit myself. Cheers Sherv
  18. I still have my original set of 14s that the gen4 came with,195 60 14. Budget jobs though, they came with.Armstrong i think they are
  19. You can see from the front end how its not too much different from the gen4
  20. Agreed Nial with regards to the likes of Martin, top service;but to be honest if you're in the south west for example, and your car is limping about you do need a local as possible solution ,so generally speaking i think a basic thread of different garages in different counties/countries could turn into a useful reference point for members.Sorry to semi hijack this threada bit Chris, maybe a suggestion in OT or whatever may see what people and the powers that be think
