Right guys, I finally got round to tackling the Rocker Cover Gasket last weekend after taking some excellent advice from you experts. Well, how did it go you ask?? - It went not too bad at all. First thing I came across was the missing nuts from the wiring loom holder on the left side of the cover, so someone has had it all apart before me. The whole loom was very tight to the cover so I cable tied it all back tight and did a trial run on dropping the cover back on before fitting the new gaskets. The old gaskets were not in that bad nick but were a lot more brittle than the new ones from Mr Toyota. I carried out a thorough cleaning up job as you suggested. The new gaskets sat very snuggly into the cover and needed no glue or anything to hold them in place.

Big surprise was that I was expecting to find six of the chrome head screws holding the cover in place - add to this the four additional awkward bar stewards at the back but I nailed them all in the end. Finger tight and a quarter turn seemed to be all the needed and the new gasket sat very nicely in place.

Changed the plugs and the air filter at the same time and she fired up first turn. Changes are that she seems to be a bit quieter (don't know why) and she is barely picking up on the auto choke when cold but generally I'm a bit pleased with myself.

Took her for a local run under three thou and no oil and no SMELL!!

Now looking to do the fuel pump if anyone has any tips cos I heard that can be bit of a burger too

Thanks for all the help.

By the way I remembered that I am missing the bar and nut that holds down the rear end of the battery so if anyone has one I am willing to pay any reasonable price

Nice one :) fuel pump is under the rear seat, there is a clip under the front at each side that needs released then just lift it out. Black panel with wires going through gets screwed off, disconnect the plug and pull it out of the panel. Undo the banjo bolt on the pump SLOWLY as it will be pressurised, then slide the return pipe off and take all the 8mm bolts out to release the pump and holder. Its a bit tricky and needs twisted a bit to pull it free

Tip, remove fuel cap to release pressure. Tip, have a basin handy to put under the pump when removing

Sorry Skiny, I meant the fuel filter, I read somewhere that someone changed theirs and found a pile of black gunge in it, any tips would be very helpful please.

Also, can anyone comment on fuel injector cleaning stuff, does it work and what is best.

Thanks

Lol, in through the passenger wheel well then. Bottom bolt is normally a c**t to get loose, can end up kinking the line handy enough. I have had no joy getting these off, even in breaker's I'm stood in the bay putting all my 9stone on them.

Least you know how to do the pump now lol
