  1. Happy Birthday DUCKERS!

  2. Happy 10 Anniversary DUCKERS!

  3. Sorry Skiny, I meant the fuel filter, I read somewhere that someone changed theirs and found a pile of black gunge in it, any tips would be very helpful please. Also, can anyone comment on fuel injector cleaning stuff, does it work and what is best. Thanks Duckers
  4. Right guys, I finally got round to tackling the Rocker Cover Gasket last weekend after taking some excellent advice from you experts. Well, how did it go you ask?? - It went not too bad at all. First thing I came across was the missing nuts from the wiring loom holder on the left side of the cover, so someone has had it all apart before me. The whole loom was very tight to the cover so I cable tied it all back tight and did a trial run on dropping the cover back on before fitting the new gaskets. The old gaskets were not in that bad nick but were a lot more brittle than the new ones from Mr Toyota. I carried out a thorough cleaning up job as you suggested. The new gaskets sat very snuggly into the cover and needed no glue or anything to hold them in place. Big surprise was that I was expecting to find six of the chrome head screws holding the cover in place - add to this the four additional awkward bar stewards at the back but I nailed them all in the end. Finger tight and a quarter turn seemed to be all the needed and the new gasket sat very nicely in place. Changed the plugs and the air filter at the same time and she fired up first turn. Changes are that she seems to be a bit quieter (don't know why) and she is barely picking up on the auto choke when cold but generally I'm a bit pleased with myself. Took her for a local run under three thou and no oil and no SMELL!! Now looking to do the fuel pump if anyone has any tips cos I heard that can be bit of a burger too Thanks for all the help. By the way I remembered that I am missing the bar and nut that holds down the rear end of the battery so if anyone has one I am willing to pay any reasonable price DUCKERS
  5. Thanks Skiny, Forgot to ask - do I need to take the plugs out to remover the cam cover?? Take your point about cleaning before removal though
  6. Right guys, Had a fettle this morning and have got her stripped down to the cam cover. All pots had oil on them with no.2 almost full!! Now I'm facing the six posi head screw bolts which, as everyone says, are barely finger tight so no issues with those - I will follow Skiny's advice when tightening up. Issue now is a long black plastic strip running across the top back of the cam cover and bolted on to the cover. I assume this will have to come off??? The right hand nut is easily accessible but the left hand one is hidden behind the plastic strip so looks like a burger to attempt to get off. So I have declared for now as the new gaskets are not here yet - but any ideas on removing this rogue nut?? Thanks Duckers
  7. Skiny Is the bit you refer to as the INTAKE the big silver piece at the back of the Rocker Cover??
  8. Ok Guys, just took out the left hand side (as you look at the engine) spark plug and the whole outside of the plug (not the sparking bit) and the h t lead tube is piss full of oil so I assume that the cam cover gaskets are fooked. Been down to local Toyota dealer and he is doing me both in and out sets for twenty quid the lot - so genuine Celica parts. Now you can probably tell by my descriptions of things that I am no mechanic, I build houses for a living, but I have decided to take on the job of changing the gaskets myself with a little help from you experts. So a few questions: 1/ Reading up on the subject in these club pages I see that members are using some sort of mastic to seal the gaskets - I asked the Toyota man about this and he says there is no mention of having to use any sealant in Toyotas guide - so if they done the job they would not use sealant so why do you??? 2/ There appears to be six posi head screws holding the cam cover on - access to some of these looks difficult - is there any trick, particularly as they need tightening back up with a torque wrench. I have also read here that someone swapped these for a bolt kit off ebay - does this make it any easier?? 3/ There is a big silver piece of kit at the back of the cam cover which I think is attached to the exhaust?? - I assume I will have to unbolt this?? Any help much appreciated Duckers
  9. No, nothing like that. It is why I am wondering if she would benefit from a service but thought maybe someone has experienced the same "smelly" thing
  10. My 1991 Gen 5 engine has a "hot oil" smell from outside after only a few miles running. Not previously noticeable inside the car but same sort of smell (but not as strong) coming into the car when the heater is turned up. Given it a good caning and no blue smoke or any smoke at all when revved No noticeable exhaust leaks Engine temperature runs normal Not using oil Is it anything to do with engine breathing or maybe overdue service? Any suggestions appreciated Duckers
  11. Also now looking for a drivers side door lock if anyone can help
  12. Bobo, From what I understand from the Toyota man there are two types of lock either central locking or just by key/door lock. If you have central locking then there is something amiss. Could be the same problem as mine but there are plenty of experts in the club who will be able to help Hope this is useful Eric
  13. Got the door panel off this morning and the lock has wiring going to it for the central locking. Turn the key and the electronic part of the lock is buzzing. Been down to our local Toyota dealer and they have identified the central locking assembly as part no 69040-20270 so it looks like this is what I need although new parts have been discontinued. I'll check fleabay and the likes and would be interested to hear from any member. Thanks Eric
  14. No noise when opening from the drivers side but the doors do not lock together only individually
