CelicaBen190
Ok quick one... have i got this right. To bleed the coolant: You lift the coolant overflow bottle up - take off the cap and bleed valve and then massage the pipes? Do you have the engine on or off? Also do you keep topping it up? So many different guides and advice, confusing!!! Edited March 11, 2012 by CelicaBen140

Alan Clogwyn
Give yourself one of these boy Last step of changing the coolant would be bleeding it !
Bumblebee
same really once you have refilled system you need to bleed it to remove air, just follow it from the point you have filled system it does help to massage both rad hoses and make sure heater is set to hot otherwise the valve will be closed and you wont pump the air away

Bumblebee
apparently it can be a real pita to do but to be honest i didnt find it that hard , just take your time , can take 30mins to do it right , take your time , do it right , do it once
CelicaBen190
See all that other sites say is take off the cap/bleed cap and then run the engine... done?
mikeandhisgt
That is true, run the engine and set heaters to full power on hot whilst leaving the rad cap off....when the thermostat opens and starts circulating the coolant round the engine the coolant level drops in the radiator and releases any air locks present...just top up if needed.........easy peasy
CelicaBen190
So just the rad cap off? Or the bleed plug as well? What i dont understand, being a noob - is the overflow pipe on the left. Doesnt mean the system is constantly exposed to air?
TRD2008
Take the cap off run the engine with the heaters on and massage the pipes

Doesnt mean the system is constantly exposed to air? no becasue the cap is a valve so when the pressure is high it will open and will push the coolent out the over flow other wise it would all come out when you go over bumps
