hawker
What the difference between these exactly? My Mazda6 veers slightly to the left. Tyre wear is even. So I was wondering would this be the tracking or would I best be getting a laser alignment? Would a main dealer do laser alignment, or is it a specialist job? Apart from the niggling fact that it veers, are there any more significant long term consequences if its left unattended? Cheers folks
edwardio
It depends on the garage I think. Plus laser alignment can mean different things. In the passed I've asked for the tracking to be down & they've said they do a 4 wheel alignment. Basically they make sure all 4 wheel point straight. This is in all garages that offer alignment. However a 4 wheel laser alignment could also mean a full geometry check, but this is more specialist places.
splinter
Car pulling to one side (generally the left) can also be a trait of running large (18") wheels. your car will want to follow the camber of the road so will turn in towards the gutter. annoying, but normal. In terms of tracking/geometry checks ^^^^^^ what he said. Edited April 21, 2011 by splinter
Boynxdoor
Have you check the tyre pressure Mate... If the left is under inflated, it will also lead to pulling on that direction...
hyper-wrap
Tracking and allignment are one in the same thing, not as simple as having all four wheels simply pointing bang straight forward as the nature of a cars weighting and balance makes it more complex than that. hawker
Yes my tyre pressures are all fine. Could well be the camber of the road tho Splinter. I'll keep my eye on it over the next few weeks Cheers fellas.
planc
You could try swopping the wheels front to rear, as for tracking some garages may put a set of optical gauges against the front wheels and adjust the front track, this in most cases is fine. A more sporty chassis is better suited to all 4 corners being checked/adjusted, if the rear axel is out no mater how well set up the front is the car will self steer so it is advisable to adjust the rear camber, caster then finaly the toe, when this is set up you can then set up the front camber, caster in line with the rear set up and then finaly you adjust the front toe. Hope this clears up the tracking / 4WA question.
