  1. Not always the best idea, as our American friends discovered: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/6759273.stm
  2. ... "Cruising" is an indication of the number of posts he's made on the forum. Look a wee bit further up for the username - in this case, "IMS".
  3. As above, most of those jobs are straightforward - impressed they changed the fuel filter, though. It can be a bit of a pig. From a garage, and with new rad, filters, oil & coolant I reckon you did OK with that price. Just have a look and see if it looks like the various filters are actually new ...
  4. Wow - what an excellent thing. Looks like a front-line product to sit with cable ties and gaffa tape on the shelf ... Good spot!
  5. Those last two have been mentioned in the Gen 6 forum, I think. I was going to stick them in this thread, but was dreading the smiley appearing.
  6. Scrappys are usually quite happy for you to remove anything that's not metal. I found a Prelude in one of the scrap-metal sites I regulate, and the guy let me take the entire interior out of it for free. No use to him.
  7. Remember that you have a duty to get rid to an authorised scrap place. For a car, that means an ATF (Authorised Treatment Facility). There should be a list on the Environment Agency website somewhere. A DVLA logo on their adverts doesn't necessarily mean they're registered with them, and neither does "all paperwork taken care of" on a Gumtree listing. Be sure to get a Certificate of Destruction from whoever picks it up - there and then, or within 24 hours usually. An ATF has access to the DVLA computer system, so they should be able to issue a CoD as soon as they've logged your car on as dead. Otherwise the car remains your responsibility. e.g. if it gets dumped in a quarry or something, you'll have to go and get it and take it to a proper scrappy, plus you'll probably get nicked.
  8. Love the black 205 with Castrol graphics - how much more in your face can you get?
  9. Fitment-wise, wheels between Gen 5 and Gen7 are interchangeable - not sure about brake caliper clearance on the Gen 7, though. (e.g. pre-facelift Gen 5 swirly wheels won't fit on the front of facelift Gen 5s due to brake caliper being bigger).
  10. Aye, there are much nicer wrinkle-paint rocker covers than that. There's a guy on the Prelude forum will do it for you if you send him your rocker cover - so he always has one in stock ready to go when someone sends him their old one. I just painted mine flat blue with VHT paint - not a great fan of the wrinkly look.
  11. Yes, yes. But ... "PC Copper" as a faux-proper name for a real policeman (i.e. that's his name, like PC Plod from Noddy) - comes from Bod.
  12. Not quite sure what you're getting at. The thinking behind finding out the Gen & colour of the car was to see whether we could narrow it down to a Club car, and consequently a driver many of us would know personally. Is that a wierd thing to do? The PC Copper thing was a bit of an aside. This isn't an obituary post as such, and we all know two guys died in an unpleasant way. None of us would wish that on anyone, and I'm sure no-one wishes to belittle their deaths. Well, that's not a very nice thing to say either.
  13. PC Copper featured in kids' TV programme "Bod" when I was younger (i.e. 17th Century sometime), hence the catch-all term for Officers of The Law for folks of my age. Here is the man himself, with some unrelated little piggy-wigs ...
  14. I did think a Gen 5 originally, but there's no sign of the headlight and the bare metal isn't covered in rust. The bonnet looks too curved for a Gen 5, too (though no sign of a vent like a Gen 7), and the colour looks like Gen 7 blue - but it's really hard to tell from that little pic.
  15. I sincerely hope not! Sad way to go, RIP to the pair of them, whoever they may have been.
  16. Have to agree with that. Much better than having a Lego engine, for example.
  17. Aye, those are the boys you need. I used them myself to clean things up a bit ...
  18. Not quite correct. If you have insurance, you can drive an untaxed car to and from an MoT station where it's been booked in for a test.
  19. Nice one - mine went straight through last week too.
  20. Hmmm ... doesn't seem to suit the Prelude very much ... MR2, maybe ... Bit of a poor effort on a Gen 4 ... Or what about a proper racing MR-S ...
