Id question it.
Iv been doing a lot of reading up on this and seen a lot of youtube vids now and it seems to be that pipe bending is a lot harder and expensive to do since decent computer controlled mandrel benders cost over 25k and price goes up sharply from that if wanting a unit than can do 3 inch or larger pipes.
Various forums and blogs i checked (yes got a lot of free time) say welded joints are areas where there can be a restriction in flow due to the weld not being smooth inside the pipe and also being failure points where corrosion can start at.
Generally it seems to be that exhaust builders that dont want to outlay the cash for a cnc mandrel bender go with welding which is a cheaper option for the shop.
Im surprised since a shop that does so much exhaust work hasnt invested in a proper mandrel bending machine.
The sharper bends are done with machines that fill pipe with sand or real expensive ones use liquid like water called hydroforming.
Interesting videos to watch on YouTube.
Well I have zero expertise in the area of welding and fabrication. I'm happy to have had my exhaust manufactured by a company with an outstanding reputation in their field. Their workshop is rammed with race cars and high end motors. I'm sure the racing community want the best .

Debs how come your exhaust has so many welded joints? I would have thought they would have single pieces bent to shape.
I, personally, would not question Alunox craftsmanship. Their workshop is full of race cars and they only use the very best materials. I'm sure there is a reason. I had mine from Alunox and I'm as happy as a pig in wotsits. These guys know what they are doing

not sure but those that got in on the group buy for the invidia n1 are laughing now, i should have got in on that action but was afraid it may be too loud.
i prefer off the shelf systems like magnex (have one on the fiesta cost £280 from demontweeks in 2002 so lasted 21 years and still looks mint), milltek, etc. they are stainless steel and usually good on price.
powerflow dealers usually sort out catbacks for 300 ish too.
i like the sound of the original exhaust, its quiet when pootling around and even in lift you can hear the engine rather than the exhaust.
when the time comes and i need a replacement i will get one that is a replication of the original one but in stainless.
Horses for courses then really. I got my system from Alunox, the same as CrazyCatLady and I paid just over £1400 for it. I've always wanted quality in everything I buy. I may be a sucker but I've never been let down by any of my purchases.

Manifold back exhaust from mr t inc cat is 1200 from listers toyota. Could probably haggle them down a little too.
Cant help but feel that you over paid for that exhaust in my own personal opinion.
Not saying it's bad quality or anything like that just that me personally cannot justify buying a catback exhaust system that costs as much as the car does.
Overpaid for the exhaust which is one of the best quality exhausts you can buy, or overpaid because the car itself isn't worth enough? It's a real distinction in my mind. This company make exhausts for race cars every day of the week. They are very highly regarded within the industry.

Yes it's great value for money, about the same expense as a mere 4 years VED
You got off a bit lighter than me! Mine was £1440 total but it's Alunox quality so well worth it

Yes, it's the weekend right now but it's languishing in the tube bending parlour awaiting the exquisite pipe pandering next week

As far as noise levels are concerned, they know i want a quiet system, as quiet or as noisy as the OEM ball park.
It will probably sound different from the original due to the different tubing and construction but we will have to see ( ...and hear )
Yeah, mine sounds very slightly deeper in tone which is nice. No complaints from me

Alunox is one of the best exhaust manufacturers out there. I had them do an OEM "copy" for my ST205. Pure quality and they do a lot of motorsport stuff. You pay for quality but that's life eh Your car on Llay Industrial Estate now?
-
When it comes to the site's front page, click here to enter site. Do you always click on the same car? I know it's daft but I always seem to find myself clicking on the white ST205. Subconscious bias?

Great post Meirion. I was fortunate enough to be racing at the 24 hours of Le Mans Karting back in 2013 when Kart Force was competing for their first time there. Was incredible watching them compete in their adapted Kart. Unfortunately both our teams had horrendous luck ,us with mechanical gremlins and them with a huge crash. But they won the spirit of the race and rightly so
That's brilliant mate
