  5. Don't want to rain on your parade but TBH I don't trust the fuel guage as far as I can throw it. I get around 80miles out of the first bar and some others I only get 15 miles and it can often vary. Most people say the same - judging fuel efficiency by using single bars just isn't possible. Only way to be sure afaik is A) brim the tank from empty with one fuel, reset your car's fuel management system so it takes advantage of the new fuel. Run the tank dry and do the calculation. I've only managed about 8 comparative runs but I'm finding I get 400miles from a tank of Tesco Momentum or V-Power, 350-375 using standard stuff depending where I fill up. Either way, the high octane stuff costs around 5% more but sesms to dish out between 6% and 14% more miles.
  6. I'm in North Herts but Duxford isn't too far away. I shall keep an eye out for meet dates!
  7. Went from a Gen 6 GT to a Gen 7 (T Sport) (Gen 6 was written off ). The T Sport is more fun to drive, and more fuel efficient but the ride is much nicer in the Gen6, especially on longer journeys (less noise, softer suspension, less of a go-kart)
  8. +1. Tsport is a lot of fun - I made the move from a Gen 6 GT too. Looked at RX8 but the fuel consumption is dire. Crossfire and 350Z are mega on insurance and tax too.

  10. When my Gen 6 was written off a year ago, I was pretty shocked to see how much the second hand car market had fallen in value. SO much so that I decided to get a Gen 7, which I picked up with 10K fewer miles and 4 years younger than my Gen 6 when I bought it for the same price... If the Gen 7 hadn't been made, I'd have quite happily bought another Gen 6 and would have been willing to pay £2K at least for an excellent un-modded/demodded example with low miles. As others have said, they just don't go wrong - had mine for five years and 25K+ miles and it only cost me fuel, parts and oil. Not a single breakdown. They're definitely sought after - I was told as much by many a mechanic that MOT's mine, but there are so many about that for the time being, demand is low.
  11. I drove up over a mountain pass in the Lake District recently - lots of high revs/low speed and low radiator airflow, huge inclines for nearly an hour. Worst that happened was the rad fans were on constantly but considering it was also 75'F outside, the temp gauge didn't rise above half way... Can't imagine overheating would be an issue in non-track use except if you're ragging it for hours at low speeds in the streets or doing a burnout.
  12. Jesus, that's so uncannily true it made me laugh, especially... Looking at reflections of the Celica in shop windows while driving I've done the exact thing with my Gen 6 and Gen 7, I even have a favourite shop window for doing it!!!
  13. This is a real issue for me as well. I've tried all the anti-cat gels and sprays (not lion juice though) but they stink and don't last very long. My neighbours have four of the things and they not only leave muddy prints on my car, but when they jump on and off, I can see where they're leaving scratches in the paintwork from their claws. I got a cover a while back and tried this. The little sods still sat on it, but at least there were no prints and hopefully it will reduce scratches. They crap all over our flowerbed too and dig up all the bulbs, so if someone has the answer I'm all ears too.
  14. I seem to remember someone else having done a similar thing (if anyone has some data on this do let me know) but as the Gen 7 has a trip computer with two trip records, I've just started a little experiment. Normal Shell vs V-power on fuel consumption. I do a mix of journeys from motorway to town driving but don't do that much mileage so it might take me a while! I fill up with 48 litres and keep going till the final light goes out on the fuel gauge, record the mileage, then resetting it to start again. Only had the car a month so haven't got a lot of data yet but will hopefully have some graphs in the next few months that will start to build an average picture. I'm curious if V-power is really worth it - it's a fair bit more expensive (usually around 7%) so just to break even you're looking at needing around 30 miles per tank more. I'm also interested in the recommended oil vs something like 0w-40 fully synth - (I used this on my Gen 6GT and it seemed to make a sizeable difference to fuel consumption) and also Redex. If anyone has done anything similar do post your findings.
