  1. I had a similar conversation a while back, hence no poly bushes on my rebuild. Basically identical feedback from a couple of local garages. Although its not just poly bushes, It turns out there are lots of things that people sell as performance upgrades that are either not....or will even make your car worse than standard. It's a minefield out there.
  2. I wouldn't fit a magnetic sump plug to any car, IMO they are bad news.. Let the oil filter do the job it was designed for. The way I see it, if you do have metal particles in the oil, the oil filter will capture them, they are then contained away from harms way unable to do any damage and will be removed next time you change the oil filter. Also hypothetically, imagine you have a bunch of now slightly magnetised metal bits all stuck together, and somehow they break free of the magnetic sump plug, instead of little bits of metal floating around the engine, you now have a big bit of metal floating around the engine which could block oil ways, get stuck in turbo oil feed lines ( if you have one) do way more damage than individual bits. Also you would have to make sure you cleaned every single partial of metal off the sump plug each time you did an oil change or you would be reintroducing them into the engine when you put the sump plug back in. Letting them get captured by the oil filter prevents this.
  3. Pull. I used a flat head screw driver to lever it off, just do it under the needle bit as close to the centre as possible, the back bit can ping off. Just go easy, use a bit of kitchen towel under the screw driver to help stop damage to the face.
  4. I think that once the novelty of it had worn off you might regret the decision, I saw an old Audi with airside suspension and it did look good, not sure how long it lasts though as surely the rubber bags would perish after a while? Never seen it done on a gen 5 though, it could be interesting??? And once the airside novelty had worn off you could use the compressor for some horn blaster air horns
  5. Is it wrong to actually like the bodykit???
  6. you can get a glass polishing compound for use with a rotary polisher called Cerium oxide. http://www.detailingworld.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=179567
  7. That's brilliant, Practical Classics is a good magazine. Full of useful tips and nice cars......looks like it just got better for one month anyway
  8. On the many searches i did come across the Hilux snap ring, but didnt know if it was the same size, from the pictures it does look very similar. fingers crossed that this is problem solved
  9. i will give it a try, many thanks i will let you know how it turns out
  10. Nope its definitely square, do an image search in google for that number, you get a whole bunch of EPC pictures, but two photos come up with what I ended up wit, the profile is square.
  11. OK. The shaft is diameter is 29.2mm the groove diameter is 24.1mm and the groove is 2.2mm wide
  12. Its worth asking, dont now if they are the same or not, but I am willing to try anything at this stage! thanks
  13. Cheers Ash, someone from the DC showed me the springmasters place, looks like I will be the proud owner of 300 snap rings soon I dont suppose you could find out the dimensions of the snap rings for me? mine is in several pieces and quite hard to get an accurate measurement from.
  14. Yes mate, thats the one, i need two if you can find them
  15. I did a google search and it looks like the snap ring that goes in the centre of the hub to keep the wheel bearings in place.
  16. Ok cheers Ash. 90520-26028 Is what i ordered, it is the inboard snap ring which is square in shape, kind of like a circlip without the holes in the end, it dosnt fit the outboard CV joint unfortunately
  17. I have the EPC at home and cant see it listed seperately, they list a snap ring, but it is for the inner CV joint i ordered it and when it arrived it was totally wrong, I have tried several sources and all say the same thing, not available separately from the dealers, or it seems anywhere else for that matter, its frustrating hell, as you say its a more or less consumable item.
  18. Does anyone know where I can get snap rings from? In the process of removing the rear CV joint to clean it up I broke the snap ring in half, Toyota do not sell them, you have to buy the full CV joint, I can find anywhere that does them, getting very desperate now as the rebuild is at a halt without them. This is what I am after, its the rear outter CV joing for a faff thanks in advance. Nial
  19. I have used POR15 alot, it sticks well to rusty surfaces or sand blasted surfaces, like glue in fact, but it does not stick well to clean metal surfaces, you then need something called "metal prep and ready", also by PO15. It will stick to painted surfaces, but it only then as good as what you are painting over, and also wont offer the same rust protection, best to start with bare metal. 2 coats about 8 hours apart, you must do 2 coats though, one is not enough. If you are doing lots of small items over a period of time, buy the 6 pack of small tins, once opened it dosnt last that long and develops a skin which is pretty solid. also DO NOT SHAKE THE TINS.....EVER. and read the instructions very carefully, they are very specific and should be followed to the letter. There is also a product called "Eastwood Chassis Extreme", now I prefer the Eastwood products that I have tried so far, they seem as good as the POR15 products but are a little more forgiving to apply and use, they are also cheaper. If they are as good long term, only time will tell. See my build thread for how it looks once applied.
  20. I found a place that hires transit van type car carriers to transport my project shell, although that had wheels, you will have to make a trolley or something to enable you to easily move it around. or find someone with one o those trucks with a hydraulic arm on it to lift it on. There isnt really a cheap option for this though unless you have a friend that can help. Its going to cost you a couple of hundred quid. Edit - I used these guys and drove it myself http://www.transporterhire.co.uk/
  21. My works virus checker went nuts and promptly barred the web page.
