  1. Where is that? I'm too scared to take mine on grass anymore after getting stuck in a park field and having to leave it overnight then getting a farmer to pull it out
  2. The gen 7 looks great and has a good base so is much better than pouring money into an old civic or micra. However the 7 is still quite common and doesn't have an amazingly impressive reputation like the Supra. I'd love to own a supercharged or turbocharged gen 7 don't get me wrong but personally I think I would buy another car for that sort of money and keep the gen 7 as a daily driver But imagine owning that beast... only thing is it was for sale for £45k and cost even more to build and for that money I'd look for something else
  3. I had to use a grinder for my front drop links because the nut just kept turning, it was awkward getting it in and made quite a lot of sparks. I'd say try a hacksaw first for the rears It might be ok with the grinder but I wouldn't recommend it unless you are taking a lot of precautions, angling the sparks away from the tank and using wet blankets to cover it just incase, like people said if you can smell fuel that means it's in the air and even more flammable than in liquid form
  4. I thought people liked the gen 6 interior more than the 7? Ive seen people complain about the 7 interior but its never bothered me, maybe cause im used to my parents owning even cheaper cars
  5. Reason there is no lower end power is because that's how they managed to make it efficient. Perfect for a daily driver car because you have good reliability, mpg and running costs, decent spec, decent safety and lift is always there just in case you ever need to use it to overtake Understand what you mean about lift though, thats why I think it would be a good idea to buy a second car like one of the ones you mention, and keep that for the weekend. And even if it needs a repair due to the age, at least you still have your daily driver and won't need to fix it straight away
  6. From your avatar your GT is probably one of the nicest 7s I've seen and I'd like to have one like that one day I know the low end torque, gear ratios, interior etc might be annoying but the pros outweigh the cons and there isn't many daily drivers as good looking and all round as good as the 7. Think you should keep it for as long as you can or you might regret it, and if you still want something a bit more raw then save for something like an MR2 or gen 5/6 for the weekends
  7. First Gen 7 I bought in May 2013 Cost £1995 Insurance £660 Tax £40 since it came with 6 months and I SORNed it at 7 and a half months 2 tyres fitted £180 Towbar removal £40 Backbox £77 fitted HIDs and other bulbs £40 Radiator £190 fitted Service and aux belt change £90 Petrol £1000 Insurance admin fees £40 Wrote it off unfortunately but managed to break even with the large excess by buying it back to break it and sell the parts For my second Gen 7 140 I bought in Febuary 2014 Cost £1550 Insurance £645 Tax £225 New caliper + 2 new discs + pads £280 fitted 2 post JDM spoiler £85 done myself 4 new rainsport3 tyres + fitting £275 Custom catback exhaust £290 fitted HIDs and other bulbs £60 done myself Sparkplugs £8 done myself Oil + filter £42 done myself Apex lowering springs £109 done myself Petrol £1000+ Both been extremely reliable and been used more than once a day on average, always start first time and never broke down. Not really needed any repairs except consumables or stuff corroding
  8. Same here in carlisle and edinburgh cowgate too i think
  9. Yep! Luckily a fishing boat was passing just as I took the picture
  10. Someone give him a win before we end up with one of our members' handbrakes failing I've been there once
  11. It would be nice if they at least made the Gen 7 GT supercharged or turbocharged from factory like the GT4 and kept all the other 140s and 190s as the way they are
  12. Happy Anniversary alex282!

  13. I don't know much about GT4's apart from that they're fast but I think it would be a shame for you to sell such a nice GT. Yes you will get more power but how often are you going to use more than 190bhp? Listen to people who have actually driven both but for a daily driver I'd stick with the GT
  14. Sorry to see this, I always dread this happening to mine cause I'm the same as you with high insurance Are you sure you would be better paying it yourself rather than going through insurance? £400-600 is a lot. I would look into it as when I had to claim off my insurance company after I slid off a roundabout and hit a lamp post they asked me what happened and then said my full excess will be applicable cause it was my fault. I'm the same age as you and the claim of a full write off puts my insurance by around £70 for next year when I checked on Gocompare. I know claiming is the last thing you want and it affects insurance for the next 5 years but I'd still look into it in case they don't penalise you as much for not being your fault. If you do go down that route the only thing I'd be careful of is which body shop you take it to as insurance might advise somewhere like Arnold Clark who will try to rip you off. I have facelift lights in good condition from my old Gen 7 and would be to pick the one you need up from home over the weekend and bring them up to Edinburgh to sell for a fair price by next week if you can't find any just let me know
  15. I had a look in BK at the last motorway service station I was in and couldn't see any crowns
  16. Leather looks more expensive but havent noticed much difference in terms of comfort
  17. Even though I paid £2k for mine and never want to sell it, I have always thought of permanently leaving a sheet of paper with For Sale £3500 or £4500 in the window, just in hope that one day some mug would see it and think that's cheap and buy it. Then I could buy another Celica
  18. How many times did you rub it? I think I done it something like 10 separate times over 3 days until I completely couldn't tell. After the first few times it was like your after picture and got rid of the smaller scrapes and the deeper ones took more rubbing, don't give up with rubbing it yet. I'd hate to see someone have to spend all that money on a respray just because of some yob or even worse for it to happen after the respray. Mine was a scrape from a metal gate which scraped the paint down to the metal of the door so I thought your single deep scratch would be fixable the same way
  19. I just used a soft cloth and rubbed it in in circular motions along the scrape, then let it dry and go back to it later and do the same. After a few times of doing that it kept getting better then eventually you couldn't tell it was scraped at all. I hope it works the same for your scratch as it did for mine
  20. If I were you I would at least try the T cut blue colorfast scratch remover first before getting another paintjob, it worked really well for my lagoon blue scrape for a fiver from Asda. I've owned my Gen 7 now for 5 months and haven't had any on purpose damage yet but I'm always anxious about leaving it out of sight
  21. What is wrong with people, why do so many people insist buying ecobox cars? Do they really think because they're new that they're better than older higher spec cars for a fraction of the price? They must truly believe that the stupid incencitives like the extra 10mpg, halfed road tax and cheaper insurance will add up to less than what they actually paid for the car. Although if people didn't buy them then I suppose our cars wouldn't stand out so much
  22. For anyone who doesn't know this is quite an interesting website http://www.howmanyleft.co.uk/?utf8=%E2%9C%93&q=celica 17k 140s left in the UK
  23. That's almost as bad as me getting asked if it was a 1.6
  24. I don't usually use it but that T cut colorfast was specifically for removing scratches on dark blue paint and worked really well for a fiver from Asda. The paint on the panel where my scrape was is flawless now apart from along the edge of the door on the inside as it doesn't seem to work or maybe requires more rubbing on surface edges
