  1. Ha ha ha - u THINK like me! I took out the front speakers (all four of them) and took them to Halfords. 1st visit - they guys said it was 4" and 5" - but best to see Audio consultant at Halfords. 2nd visit - sees the Audio Consultant at Halfords and he confirms 4" - then when I got him to measure, he admits it LESS THAN 4". And since they don't have ANYTHING less than 4" or the screw fittings that I took off the speakers - he advises me to go to a specialist. Mate - my speakers are NOT in the door, but IN THE DASH! Does these pics help? PASSENGER: DRIVER: I think this speaker was put in by a previous owner (a base reflector used to be here. ie a flat piece of soft material). But the replacement speaker must be useless, since it is BETWEEN the end of the dash AND the door - hence cannot hear anything! ) TOOK THIS as well when someone told me to measure from the cone of the speaker:
  2. Cheers Pal I know no idea about car stereos, just what I come across on the internet or from the grapevine. So, really working towards my budget based on what I can buy for the cheapest Alpine system I can find - for now only at Halfords. But, even Halfords are limited to the smallest at 10cm (which might be too big) and there is no smaller 3-way or sub-woofer. I only decided to change the HU <- only knew what this meant a couple of weeks ago! ....because the existing single-din is quite worned now (hard to change songs ). Also, the driver speaker crackles like mad (and when I took it out it was ripped). I also read bod standard manufacturer speakers were more like paper - which mine was. And the alpine speakers in Halfords (10cm for 2, 2-way speakers) were only £26...were much better quality material......so I decided to replace the whole system. I have (and this is a rough guess from what people and Halfords has said): 1. 4 speakers at the front: Passenger(3.25" + 4" base deflector), Driver (the same) 2. Rear Speakers: No idea - not seen them (but could be 4" or 5" each side) So what I have read, I would like 3 way speakers at the front (super tweeter, tweeter, mid-range), plus ONE 4" subwoofer Rear, again 3 way speakers for my passengers. I am not wanting the loudest or the best for the driver. I just want a good quality system both for myself and my 2 kids in the back - they love mu songs and I do not want to put sub-woofers in the back and bang out their ear drums. The only problem I have so far: 1.No one can determine the size of my speakers yet 2. Finding someone who can source such SMALL speakers for 3way and sub-woofers 3. What is the best setup with my car's layout (2way, 3way, mid, sub, woofer, etc)? Crude layout of my car: Driver: 3.25" ON DASH faces Driver; 4" FACES THE DOOR (hence useless) Passenger: 3.25" ON DASH faces passenger; 4" ON DASH (in SAME BOX as 3.25") faces floor Rear: In side panel faces passenger x2
  3. £150 too much? Too little? Amping? Can I assume that means an EXTERNAL AMPLIFIER? Yes, I just want a bog-standard setup - but want better speakers to fit in the existing holes thats all. Cheers mate - I might pop round sometime (if/when I get the speakers/fittings etc) I have the assumption ANYTHING is better than the standard car manufacturer speakers (even the HU). I know the Alpine are almost the cheapest I can find - but still better than the originals in the car?
  4. That's a really good price and within my budget - thks Ade! But was hoping would recommend a place that's all - personal recommendation rarely go wrong that's all
  5. I really want to go into a Car Audio shop and pick the budget (but branded speakers+wiring) and then see how much to include installation... Cheers pal for the breakdown, very much appreciated for your help
  6. Its a simple problem really, just inept me with my no-existent DIY skills (or SODs law rules my world), this it the problem (This is also the PM to u, mate Silver Surfer): >>> Thks for offering your mates service. I just want to replace my Gen4's stereo (single to double-Din). Then replace all then speakers (front has 4, 2 3.25"? and 2 base-reflectors?) + 2 at the rear (now ripped out yet). PLUS all speaker wiring. The issue started here - and cannot: 1. Determine correct size speakers - DOH :-( 2. A good speaker setup (what size and type for my car) 3. Who can source good speakers of these SMALL sizes http://www.celica-cl...e/page__st__360 >>>
  7. My car internal organs still in pieces after i ripped out the speakers + stereo. Halford gave up on me after my 3 visits. Thy recommend: Car Audio in Burnley + some other place in lumb lane, bradford. Anyone used thm or can recommend?
  8. Thks Ian I do have some sort of idea what needs to be done when it goes into a garage - not something I would even contemplate to DIY! The Local Garage search continues...
  9. Darn! I need someone to recommend me a very very good air condition garage!
  10. Cheers mate. Yes. Apparently if u just put in R13a into R12 system it works. But it will leak more and really need new seals etc which mean more £££ :-( Just hoping for some local recommendations :-)
  11. Anyone know if R12 gas is still legal in the UK? And wher to obtain from? Else does anyone know how to convert a R12 system to R13a?
  12. That's a bargain! Considering only the U.S. seems to sell them and at a lot more than u did (not including shipping or taxes!!!) Cheers Ben!
  13. you, you Do u mind me asking how much u paid for it, Ben? Just to get an idea of the going rate for these rare Tonneaus
  14. u mean this one, Mark? http://www.alltrac.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=43488 Zaluss found it for me - am studying it like the BIBLE now!
  15. Hi Mark, Just got back from Halfords - they haven't a clue! The look of things, I am guessing they smaller one is 4" and the bigger one is 5". But measurement, puts the 4" at just below 4" and the bigger one at 4 3/4" - but it all depends on how it is measure? I have no idea. Some on the internet say the screw - holes. Some say the outer side of the cones. Halfords just told me the inner cones - but unsure really! I am guessing the bigger one is a SUB-Woofer.....I know - its TINY for a woofer. But, if it is jammed between the dash and the door - then it can't be the best location for a speaker? Wayne....still searching for answers.....signing off....
  16. This is my front speaker setup on my JDM Gen4. Does anyone know what speaker setup I have? and the sizes I need? Passenger side: Driver side (The bigger speaker is squashed between dash and door - so not sure wot use it is!):
  17. Thks Arizona - i thought not.

  21. Thks Steve! Good to kno. Both my RED and Scooby brakes squel like mad... Mite ned thm skimmin one day.....£££££ :-(
  22. Interesting....I thought most people would just either get cheaper parts (unbranded) or more expensive parts( K&N, Green, ALD etc) for such filters etc? ....unless dealer parts are already same price as aftermarket cheaper parts.. But for more complicated parts then dealers.....
  23. U mean its still cheaper and better to get original Toyota parts? Rather than OEM parts? Can I ask what parts have u got in the past?
