Was travelling down the A421 earlier today went for a gear change and completely lost all power. Couldnt get it in any gear so coasted to a halt on the hard shoulder. was able to get it in gear and get back home, then drove to toyota and dropped it off with them. Gave them a rang now and they think its the clutch itself not the actual cable. They said it could either be the plate, friction plate or bearings. They said that the cables were fine and there was enough fluid in the system.
The previous owner had a clutch fitted not long before I had the car but I have a suspicion that it was a hunk of you know what. They originally quoted me £800 plus £100 an hour for a 5 hour job, they lowered their quote for £614 all in. But was wondering if anyone could give me any help with it? Should I try to find a clutch from someone like ams or nix or should i have a new one supplied by them at £614 which seems like a lot. Although be it I dont know the cost for something like this.
EDIT: I have a 2004 04 T Sport
