I broke my ankle Aug 31st so my Celica hasn't been used since then, advise for when I begin using it again please.
I started it up occasionally and rolled it slightly on the drive to rotate the tyres, handbrake was off for first few months.
I then needed to move it to a different part of the drive due to that massive storm that was forecast - the battery was flat so I charged it & moved it, and left the handbrake on ... Just incase it blew away haha!!
Anyway I forgot handbrake was on, car went flat again - handbrake is now off again (reckon it was on about 4 weeks) and the battery is flat again, well flat enough not to start but loads of power for the alarm/Central locking etc.
I know I'm going to have to buy a new battery before I start using it again (plus it's sorned) so I'm looking to start using it again in January as my daily driver.
My question - other than a new battery - anything else I should consider? The discs are obviously very rusty (rear discs and pads have only had 2 months use & fronts less than 2000miles) ... Will the surface rust just scrape off if I drive down the road with my brakes lightly on??
My car in the meantime has been a Jap Import MK 1 mx5 (well Eunos Roadster) auto, I bloody love it!! (I did try to drive the Celica but my ankle is too weak for the clutch) ... Fed up/feeling bad about relying on friends & family I started looking at autos but couldn't bring myself to spend ££ on a car i'd hate so started looking at anything & everything, this worked out a bargain on insurance as it's a classic car (big thanks to Neil at Greenlight for a fantastic policy!!) might as well post a cheeky pic:
As much as I love the MX5 it is a tad cold in winter, however seeing as I've paid for a years insurance I'm going to stick it up for sale shortly & replace it with a manual one for a weekend/summer car :-)
So I've got over Christmas to sort the Celica out & begin to start using it regularly again (I'm still having trouble with my ankle so hope this is a reasonable goal!!) ... any input?
