In all fairness I think Toyota need more gratitude for being completely open about it and are more than willing to admit the error(from supplier not in-house fault) and will replace them at no expense to the owners.

I say this whenever I hear people say "OH look toyota has another recall - not as great cars as you keep saying"

Great example is the window switch recall on the mk2 yaris at 10 years old.

VAG window switches break after 5 years and they have done for years, same as there window regulators which have been the same shitty design for over 20 years!

Add to that door looms breaking after 3 years and the dealer not being able to supply them as there is a 3 month backlog - yet they deny there is a known fault.

Even the oil issue on the 1zz - the VAGs had a 1.6 engine around the same age and that was awful for oil burning - and it wasn't down to gummed up rings like the 1zz (which I blame on lack of maintenance /. wrong oil)

I cut mine off on the recommendation of the old boys in work, they said they’ve seen water sit under the rubber causing the shafts to snap on the corolla’s and Avensis.

Seen loads of corollas/ versos/ avensis that have rusted and snapped under the rubber.

But on the celicas never seen one snap and when ive taken the rubber  and ciut the metal part off completely they havent been rusty underneth. Its another example of the difference in component / build quality that Ive seen with european vs japanese built cars.

Have you found the same?  Theres loads of small things ive found over the years  to be common on euro built cars compared to jap built cars that have put me off them.

Years ago it was all HALO Spark plugs.

I believe they aren't made anymore - there were lots of claims by a corp on here who sold them about better mpg and performance. I found that they offered no improvement in MPG over 10,000 miles and it took longer to fire up than with standard NGKs

The company that made them BRISK are still about - but Ive seen enough of there plugs fail very quickly that I would never fit them,

NGK or Denso Iridiums - they will be fine for upto 60k but 30k is a good interval, but worth taking out every 10,000 miles and checking them so theyre not to hard to remove after a long time.

Be aware of fakes if buying from ebay/amazon

I didn't  enjoy the fb post tbh and tried to get it closed.

It started to get a little nasty imo

Instead of all the arguing and name calling people should have just had a little laugh to themselves.

I was thinking the same mate

There are dyno's out there, that are intentionally generous because it does bring in the young lads,

we used to see some of them on here years ago making 150 on a vvti with an exhaust and K+N

does this mean once we are all back to normal (whenever that mat be ) the all future MOTs will last 18 months as its ok when it suits this goverment,

if its safe to do this under lockdown its safe in normal conditions as i am sure your car is oblivious to this

Given the state of some of the cars I have seen 6 months after an MOT, I sincerly hope not.

Goverment didnt follow the EU regualtion of moving to 2 year MOTs thankfully.

One of them is insurance. Ok so your MOT has been extended. But it is still your responsibility to keep your car roadworthy in the meantime. If you have an accident do the insurance use a government assessor, MOT tester or thier own expert to decide if your car was roadworthy? Do they try to wriggle out and say your insurance was invalid if they find the slightest thing wrong with your car? Not saying my or anyone else's car isn't roadworthy, but it's worth thinking about

Think it comes down to the type of checks that the police can pull you over for - so lights not working, stuff hanging off the car, bald tyres.

This is all standard stuff as per the highway code:

    https://www.gov.uk/check-vehicle-safe

When you insure an MOT exempt car, you are advised that the car should be roadworthy and the best way of doing that is by having to MOT'd.

When I insured a car that had previoulsy been Cat-N'd( old cat d), they again advised that although it didnt need a new MOT it must be roadworthy and advised that I get a new MOT done.

  7. if you buy a new matrix then you can do it without removing the dash as it will come with new clips

A used one - if you open the clips you wont get them back on - so I supply them with the pipes as well. to fit it complete - to fit that the dash needs to come out. A lot of people chops the pipes half way on the old and new and join with rubber hose so that you dont have to get the dash out.

I have one good matrix left if you do want to get a used one.
