  1. Guys, do you use every day or classic insurance for Gen 6 GT. Are there any drawbacks with classic insurance and how much would a 1999 GT be worth with 102,000 on odometer. Also can anyone suggest a good classic company ? Thanks in anticipation >>>>>>.Stu
  2. Guys with regards to the new e10 petrol, I was having trouble with my petrol rotorvator, I just couldn't get it to run. Took it to my local garden machinery place and he managed to run and set it up. He was saying use the petrol with lowest ratio of ethanol possible as it had rotted the rubber grommets from the petrol tank he says it also degrades plastic pipes ( makes them brittle) and worst of all it attracts water which is not good for any engine. He suggested any petrol engine that is standing for 6 months or more to add stabiliser to the petrol tank. Could it rot the rubber O rings around injectors ?
  3. Hi Guys and Gals, I was speaking to an auto electrician the other day and he was telling me about ECU problems with late 80's early 90'S Toyotas. He has 2 late 80's 20valve Corollas and was having trouble with one of them, namely starting again after a run. Apparently Toyota fitted some inferior capacitors in various models his being one and MR2's as well and this affected American versions and import cars also. Other problems were rough running, alarm problems, poor starting etc. I can't remember the name of the capacitors but they were brown in colour. So has any one in the club had similar problems and found them extremely difficult to solve, if so it might be worth while removing the top of the ECU and checking if the said capacitors are leaking and replacements are fairly cheap and could stop the vehicle being scrapped. Other ECU's in the vehicle could also be affected. Not sure if Celica's were affected so it will be interesting to find out if any member has had similar problems. Regards Stu.
  4. Thanks very much for your input guys, I will definitely be bridgeing it out.
  5. Guys, the power steering grille on my 99 gen 6 is extremely rusty as you would expect on an item mounted in front of the radiator exposed to all sorts of debris and weather on a 23 year old car and if it should leak it would lead to power steering failure and rack and who knows what else. It seems it wasn't fitted to JDM models, so my question is has anyone else had problems with theirs and can the power steering be bridged out at the tank and if so I can change the fluid at the same time. Your advice would be appreciated .......... Stu.
  6. Use BP 97 octane petrol, no ETHANOL easy.

  11. Can't see why its a grey area with that wording. Mine has passed every year for the last five years at my MOT station and in fact he asked me for information on best place where to get them from as several of his customers have made enquiries to him about them. Provided your washers work no problems he tells me.
  12. Thought I would correct a thread that has been doing the rounds on this website for quite a long time with regards to the fitting of HID headlights to earlier generation cars. The wording of VOSA ( Vehicle and Operator Services Agency) for England, Scotland and Wales states the following "A car with HID lights MAY also have headlight washers and self levelling lights which must be checked and be in working order if fitted". The important word here is MAY and not MUST, so HID headlights are legal on older vehicles if the above requirements are met. Hope this clears up any misunderstandings with regards this issue.
  13. 10 years and 2 months(13 years and 2 months old) and still running brilliantly, best Toyota I've had and I've had a lot since 1971.

  15. If they can make them for the same price as the titanium plugs (approx £40 for 4) and they last the same amount of time ie 60,000 miles then they could well be worth it. And yes Ceefax still exists in the East Midlands and long may it do so (well till October anyway).
  16. Did anyone see the topic on Ceefax yesterday saying that in the near future car engines will be fired by laser instead of sparking plugs. They say it will improve emissions and fuel consumption as more of the unburnt fuel will be ignited and the company that produces the laser is in discussions with a major sparking plug manufacturer (NGK, Champion?).
  17. Alistair_GT mines the same as its a 1999, I really couldn't understand why they had air con and a sunroof. I thought all the changes took place with the face lift model in 1996 and I've found out that some parts of the wiring loom were altered as well as they don't match the Celica chassis manual but I can't find a supplement for the changes. HAPPY NEW YEAR GUYS. PS, I have a genuine Toyota wiring supplement specifically for the convertible, if anyones interested just e-mail me.
  18. Sounds a nice friendly guy who listens and then acts on good advice.
