  1. Your welcome Jim. Well first of all when I got home I washed car and then went out for a spin. Loved it as ever car passing the folk weee cranning there necks to look lol

as for the driving, yep the steering was lighter but the driving was great. Doesn’t seem to wheelspin now at a standing start too. It felt smoother and less noisy. And according to my mrs she said the wheels make the car bigger lol

while I remember what size of wheel nuts do I get when I get the new ones sorted out?

    Thanks again

  2. Well today I took a drive to sunny Arbroath and met jim7564.

It was great to finally put a face to the messages and especially all the great help he has passed on.

And....... I got new alloys and tyres. Also he kindly gave me a headlight and rear strut brace.

Btw guys the Lego oil tog is truly one massive project. This guys talent is next to none.

My daughter who had come with me was memorised with the amount of Lego he hasn’t and all the models that he has made.

it was all she talked about on the way home and has decided she will do the same with her Lego lol.

His car is a beast!!! I’m amazed at how he has with his own hand made up mods for his car and I think it will truly be a work of art once he has finished it.

Thanks again jim and hopefully catch up again soon and no doubt will be bombarding you with more questions

  4. Today I gave the interior and boot  a good hoover and clean and polish. Need to get some decent looking mats.

Then washed and polished the car, had planned on taking off wheels and giving the inside of them a clean too and painting the caliphers but with no jack that’s a job for another day.

Also noticed which I can’t believe I hadn’t before that the front driver headlight has a hole in glass lens which previous owner has put a piece of clear sellotape over. And the front indicator on same side has a wee chip along the top edge of the lens. Means that’s another two things on my list of things needed replaced.

Oh I wish I could win the lottery!!!

  5. Since I posted this thread, it hasn’t been to bad, I think as it had been sitting for a while before I bought it it probably was stiff or something.

Now when I pull into garage I give the lever a pull right up (sure it’s going to break one day lol) the cap opens straight away.

Once I have time though I will have a good look at it.

Cherrs Simon as at least I can now no it’s route lol

  6. Had to get oil for car and skint so went to Asda. They have there auto drive brand oil for 5 litres at £15 as rolled back prices. The 2litre bottles are still priced normal at £10+. So over have price than the main branded oils for the 5 litres . I know it won’t be as good I suppose but will do the job. Worth buying if like me your struggling with finance

  7. Ok thanks black knight. That’s what I’ll do

Nothing to be sorry about, just a tad confusing as I was obviously going by your opening remarks.

To answer your above though, for a simple top up, you can mix oil's if you use a thinner oil to top up than is in the car already.

So if you know the car is filled with 10w-40 you could use 5w-30 for an emergency top up.

But you must NOT use thicker oil like 15w-40 for instance.

Equally mixing brands is fine in an emergency.

However best practice is to always top up with the same brand and viscosity of oil as is already in the car.....and if your unsure as to what that is do an oil change yourself so you know. This also means you know the filter is new as you'd be amazed at the amount of people that will change the oil but skimp on a new filter!!!!

Good idea is to always buy more oil than you actually need for a change so you have some left over for top ups.

From memory you can do a change on the 1.8 with a 4L bottle and still have 0.5-1L left in hand...but I always used to buy at least 5L at a time.

Regarding brand, I've always used Castrol myself as Toyota basically built the engines around Castrol back in the 90's, but its very much personal preference and many others will have different opinions.

But whatever you choose try to stick with it for long term consistency
