  1. I don't think it is black and white, some bushes perform different functions so some take better to changing than others. Sometimes the Oem bush performs a function like a certain amount of rear steer, different toe depending on height, ie raised rear braking vs squat under power adding to stability. Its a very subjective thing and therefore cant ever be pinned down in either direction but as a general rule the oem will be a good balance in terms of compliance and you have to be selective about what you polypush and consider the function and in some cases a rose joint could be better or just leaving it stock. Roll the dice really if you don't properly think about it you might make it better you might not.

  2. i would have said get a gt4 right away, but i think if your taking out loans it may not be a good idea unless your happy that you might get hit with a very big bill at some point, be it clutch, suspension whatever, i bought a st205 from a freind who had maintained it regardless of cost, not sure i would have bought one otherwise. At the moment i'm prepared to accept i may get a nasty surprise at some point, they are great cars when maintained but that comes at a price and its not a car you should be stretching your budget on imo.

  3. having a lot of power isnt any more likely to lose you your license than sorted handling, by the time you have a car on stiff coilovers and good tyres you will be able to take corners at license losing speeds with ease, you already can with stock handling a lot of the time anyway, so either you will reach a point you cant fully exploit it and remain within the law or you will make use of its ability and run the risk, and thats no different to using more power, which provided you have decent traction(not handling) you can make good use of with or without breaking the law.

probably also worth noting and its down to how you read it but i would say handling covers the cars ability to change direction not its ability to get power down. (although they do affect each other)

  4. There isnt a clear answer though is there, i use all the power of my st205 regularly, without breaking the speed limit because it has good power and great traction to make the most of it, road holding is average as is its handling but it just isnt a problem, and i much prefer it to my old track ss3, which would corner so fast it would be insane to make use of it on the road a lot of the time because you never know whats round some corners, and on some of our not so good roads it simply didnt work because the suspension was too stiff. Of course i'd prefer the ss3 on a track because it was more stable at high speeds, and on the track the ss3 was quicker than a stock st205 but on the road the st205 is just a little more fun and a lot more usable, Ultimatly i'd like a combo of both but there isnt a one size fits all setup, so much of it is preference and purpose.

  5. another thought is kinda neither power or handling, but drivetrain, shorter gear ratio's (nightmare to find for s series gearbox though) or light flywheel/crankpulley etc, even lighter wheels/brakes, it may not equate to more power but everytime you get on the power out of a corner less rotating mass can gain you distance out of each corner, which also leads nicely to an lsd if you dont have one, anything that lets you get on the power sooner is going to gain you time.

  6. Funnily enough, i was just watching on old episode of Topgear (yes it was on Dave wink.gif) where they tested the newer Ariel Atom with the supercharger, it went round the test track faster than the Bugatti Veyron....................... so there you go, low(ish) power and great handling against mahoosive power and uber expensive engineering and i'm sure some pretty good handling too, and the Atom came out top

    Gotta love British Engineering wink.gif

all relative though, supercharged atom has 600bhp per ton, veyron has 530bhp per ton, so the atom is rightly the quicker, in terms of power it has more for its weight.

anyway it brings up a good point, weight saving, even spending money in order to save weight can be benifical when you calculate your bhp per ton.

hmmm just had a look at the top gear lap times and the veyron is faster than the atom round the track, so that turns that on its head, suspect thats down to the veyrons massive torque and traction.

  7. power and traction, I think so much depends on the type of events though tbh, you'd really need to look at the circuits you've been running at to figure out where you look like you could gain the most time, spend more time cornering? or accelerating? problem with trying to extract more power from a 3s-ge is unless you have a big budget it could just be pissing into the wind.

  8. I suppose though, when you finish the cabs off, will you ever drive the CS again as it will basically be the same animal, maybe store the CS for a month or 2 and see if you really do miss it, at least you won't regret it like you would if you sold it

It sure is a tough decision either way

same thing i think, cs over beams for sure, but the vert + cs makes me wonder why both? either of them with the beams makes sense but the vert + cs not so sure.

  9. True. However, due to the nature of the wide low boxer engine being mounted longitudinally means the gearbox sits basically in the middle of the car giving good weight distribution. :) A transverse 4 pot would throw way more weight over the nose rather than the boxer configuration.

i'm talking longitudal inline 4, sat as far back as possible between the front wheels or even just behind them, even better if they could put the gearbox at the back of the car, with a subaru boxer engine the gearbox sits between the front wheels, with the engine ahead of the wheels, so even though the centre of gravity might be lower because the majority of engine weight sits lower, that weights not in a great place hanging out there in front, this could be less of a problem if they can move it back, they can use a different gearbox because they wont have outputs to the front wheels, but the engines still so wide it will be hard to move it back because you have all the suspension and steering to fit between, if they were starting from a clean sheet i would put money on them not using a boxer engine, the layout just doesnt seem ideal for a rwd car imo, most front engined rwd cars are now front mid setups using either v or inline engines.

  10. its possible any benefit in the centre of gravity being lower from the boxer engine could be lost because it needs to sit quite far forward, would have been better with a compact inline 4 as far behind the front wheels as possible mid-front for better weight distribution. It'll still be good though, still feel linking it to the old ae86 is utterly retarded though, its a million miles away from a cheap lightweight, its going to be expensive and lardy :)

  11. goods stuck in customs still :)

But things we've started making which needs test fittings are:

    CS hood

    PU-Carbon headlights

    PU-Carbon front hood/lamp trim

Other plans for the new years will be:

    re-enforced rear Carbon Trunk lid

    PU-Carbon mirrors

    Carbon OEM spoiler

any info on the weight saving for the bonnet, what do the headlights consist of and do they save much weight? do you know what the cost is likely to be?

  12. my mate just bought a set of hancook rs2's for his gt-four... this was the details on the invoice

    4 of 2255016WHANKR HANKOOK TYRES / TRACKDAY TRACK DAY / HANKOOK RS2 Z 212 HANKOOK R S2 Z212 HANKOOK RS 2 - 225/50R16 92W

    read it again :adora:

    expect a review soon.....

  13. Quick question re: Halos vs standard plugs.

Has anyone tested whether the Halos help improve fuel economy on the ST202 GT? If so, what sort of figure?

Tommorow i'm going to test them with a wideband and see what they do to the A/F ratio, i really hope there good, as i really like crewchief he is a nice guy, i think they will be
