I'll try anything once...
thinking of duck taping one to each ear so i can't hear all the rattles coming from the boot

Just arrived with todays post:
eBay - Meguiars 198ml Scratch X20 includes 5 free microfibre cloths ...£11.10 to include UK delivery
Seems like a good deal to me, can always use a few more microfibre cloths,
the 198ml size bottle that came is actually the 'regular' 207ml size, plus they've sent me 6 free cloths not 5
But i'm not complaining!

Just arrived in this mornings post via Amazon uk [other seller]
I only bought the one towel, not the whole boxful ....£3.55 to include delivery

I wouldn't personally!
Yeah, Unibond Extreme is a bit dubious so i'll not bother with that one.
My caps have a outer recess that needs something in to hold the outer edge of the new sticker, and stop water and muck getting in.i could try using copydex, which would be harmless to the plastic caps and stickers but dunno how it would cope with longevity.Edit : yes you're right, i've just stuck them strait on [without any glue] and they look fine.
-
You should be able to prize off the middle of your current centre caps and leave a void to put them in - clean that with tar and glue/degreaser and give it a light sand and they should hold
I've already prised the old centre caps off.
The new ones are sticky backed but i would think they could do with a additional outer-ring of resin or strong waterproof glue around the edge to seal them on proper.
I have a little tube of Unibond Extreme Power Glue - "a tough bond that resists shocks, impact, water, extreme temperature conditions ( -50c to 120c )"
It says it's suitable for plastics ( except PE, PP, PTFE ) ...so i'm not sure now

Update:
Re-emailed Darren and he replied, yes he is very busy but probably in demand for good workmanship, or maybe he's out there with his surf-board - which is what i'd be doing this time of year in Cornwall
Darren of 'Vinyl Locking' has produced and dispatched my centre caps, and they arrived in this mornings post, and i'm really pleased with them
Just need to work out the best way to stick them on the plastic caps - so the edges won't lift when i wash the car, all good suggestions welcome!

Feel the quality... the BC Coilovers are to follow soon, ...i'm getting very excited about the refit!
And don't worry: that long drop-link really is perfectly strait, it's just my wide-angle lens giving it a flex

What size are your wheel caps? My steering badge was 44mm and Darren said I couldn't go any smaller if I wanted to keep the white outline detail so just bear that in mind if your wheel caps are smaller than 44mm.
Cant wait to see them, I love the dragon logo and intend on having it appear in a few other places on my car soon....
Just the domed badge itself: 52mm diameter
The plastic caps are small, on the flip-side the barbed prongs that hold the cap in the hole have a diameter of about 45mm, can't see new ones for sale anywhere.
Your dragon badge in the steering wheel picy looks bigger than 44mm, you must have a very small steering wheel, looks very nice though

After a very expensive refurb job on my 12 spoke premiums wheels, i still haven't replaced my manky old centre caps.
Although i have removed the center caps and my new wheels look rather odd without them.
This is a before shot btw...
I really do like Foogles Celica dragon steering wheel centre,
which has gives rise to the simple idea of a Celica dragon on wheel centres.
This sort of badge could be used as a generic patten for any standard Gen wheel, allowing for differing colours variations.
For my Red Edition, a red dragon with black border on metallic silver background.
I think this would give a traditional elegance, and look far classier than the original red or blue Edition sketch outline that imo looks scruffy and cartoonish.
Looks like Darren is about to get some orders in

A handsome young UPS driver brought a couple of things today...
I found it very easy to put the tool drawer cabinet together, and i really like it, just the right size.
It's given me the incentive to give the garage & shed a good tidy up and organise, wish me luck!

A couple of eBay purchases arrived today:
New booties & slider pins for my recon Pagid Avensis callipers
and
RattleMatt - 300mm x 10m roll of sticky-backed sound deadening
Going to stick most of this on the boot floor, and in other easy to get to places...
i'm not going to get too obsessed with sound proofing,
i don't want to evoke the law of diminishing returns

Thanks, Guys!
I'll heat 'em up!

I hacksawed though the ball shaft itself, so now committed to getting it out and using the replacement.
Will try some wd40 + heat + vice grips
-
I didn't replace the ball joints, I just clipped the new ones on.
The old ones i have don't come out of the ball joint, i tried that.
How can you re-use the old ball joint if you hacksawed them?
They are fitted with a lock thread solution, warm the area up with a heat gun or hair drier and use a quality spanner like a Snap On or MAC Tools.
Cheap open end spanner's will just round them off.
They also round off using a well fitted socket, i didn't damage them at all with a spanner.
-
The originals have pre-fitted balls, one needs to remove it from the tailgate and fit the new ones provided with the new struts which are held in by a little cir-clip.
-
I had to hacksaw my old ones off. The part where the ball goes into the tailgate is very flimsy.
it's funny you should say that, cos after applying as much considerable pressure as i dared using an open-end 12mm spanner i could feel the nut would round off, so i hacksawed the old strut off so i could use a 12mm socket, a really good fit too, but it rounded off anyway.
Toyota must of employed a gorilla in the factory wrenching them on at 1000 Nm.
I'll try again tomorrow using a pair of vice-grips, they look a big big for the job, just hope the jaws can fit in the gap.
For the time-being i now have a one-strut tailgate...
-
A pair of Nitrolift tailgate gas struts arrived today.
They look okay but i didn't manage to fit them,
can't get the soft-as-shit lock nut off of the old one that ball joints onto the tailgate
