  1. @CheltGirl @Xanadu

Thank you both! My dad saw it on her driveway and after a long talk about how his son had one, she said she was selling. I kinda took over and said it should go to someone who would care for it, as an 'unmolested' stock car! Think it would go well in the club. Im even considering it myself.

£5900 wow, so would it be fair to say this would be in the £6000 range based on Mileage?

  2. Hi Guys and Gals -

    I've got a question.

So my dad's neighbour has a Gen 7, she's looking to sell and I thought 'this needs to go on the club site'

Its a cracking example, very clean and a very low mileage model.

Its got the Style Pack and the Premium pack (so tte spoiler, 17inch alloys and leather seats and the digital climate control. Also a sunroof!)

A snippit of the message from the neighbour -

'The Celica’s all spruced up, even has a new battery! I’ve put together a few pics, let me know if I should do a few more. The MOT runs out in November and the mileage is 35,668, there’s a full service history. '

How much have we seen these go for previously? It's likely to get posted on here to be kept nice and looked after but I would like  a good idea on what it's worth.

    Thanks!

As far as I know, just running smaller wipers is legal.

    Brilliant! Thanks OldRed

Does the sun strip effect the drivers view of the road? Ie me at 6’2 sitting in the car looking straight head will it effect my view? Is it a solid colour, not transparent?

Would fitting smaller wipers effect the swept area again effecting the drivers view of the road?

Measuring the wiper blades will not be part of the test, as a tester myself I have no idea what size wipers should be fitted to every car I’ve tested. Neither does it list a size for any cars. Truth be told I wouldn’t even think to measure the blades if I was happy that it clearing a good enough section of the screen. The only test to be done on a wiper blade is does it clear the screen, yes, is it secure, yes, does it leave a good field of vision clean, yes, then it’ll pass. I wouldn’t care if you fitted 10” wipers, as long as I can see enough to be sure that your vision isn’t compromised. Neither do I care if the wipers split, as long as it’s secure and clearing. You don’t even need to run your finger down the blade. The test isn’t to fail the car, I don’t go looking for failures, I test every car to make sure it’s safe, if it isn’t then it shouldn’t be on the road.

Also so don’t forget a lot of the test is down to the testers opinion, yes there’s set limits for certain things, but things like play in joint, what one jobs worth thinks is a failure could if the DVSA inspect the car be deemed it as a pass and advise. I was always told that if I was ever in doubt to pass and advise it, if I’ve told you something ain’t quite right and you ignore it and crash, it’s on you. MOT standards are very low standards. You can read all the standards in sections 3 of the mot manual, it’s on the .gov website and anybody can view it.

Oh but I’d remove the tint on the headlight if it effect the light output colour lol

Well, the sunstrip doesn't come down any further than it would do if the sun visors were down - I did it to this effect mainly because my hands free kit is on my sun visor and a bit of a pain attempting to turn it around every time I move it up and down...

Solid Colour sunstrip yes, not transparent.

I do agree with you though, I only ever get my car MOT'd at Toyota via my cousin and generally they are pretty thorough - they make sure the car is safe, but wouldn't fail me for having a, air freshener hanging in the window :P

The chameleon Tint went a long time ago :( it looked great but it was pulled off before last years MOT...

I really need to update my build thread and profile picture -.- so much has changed!

  4. Bonjour!

I recently installed a sunstrip on the outside of my windscreen, and I read somewhere that any wipers passing over this area can fail my MOT...

Asked my buddy who is an MOT tester and he said the same - Question is, he told me that I cant run anything other than the stock size wipers...but he wasn't 100% sure...

So, how would I go about this?

Anyone else done this and gone through an MOT?

    Thanks!

  5. So, I thought id fixed it!

    But apparently not...

All the usual spots like drain tubes and rear grommets in the boot lip have been checked and all good.

Ive even fit a rubber strip around the inner of the sunroof to improve the seal. The only possible thing i can think of is that the rubber on the top outside seal of the sunroof where it meets the glass (top face) is lifting in the corners.

Would this cause enough water ingress to spring a relatively noticeable leak? And would it cause me any problems to seal around it?

I appreciate that there's probably something somewhere on the forum,

But all I can find is sunroof drains and standard stuff...

  6. I've used Momentum 99 on every tank of fuel since I've owned my car, which has only just been over 3 years now. The only time I've had to put anything different in, is if I've been on a long journey and there hasn't been a Tesco nearby, or if on the very odd occasion my car has clicked lower than 3 bars (my filling up point :P) and I need to get to work the following day. The past 3 MOT's in my ownership, the car has soared through with next to no emissions, or even cutting it close. I get around 350 miles out of a full tank driving sensibly, so I don't know? From my personal experience I wouldn't use anything else!

  7. I've run mine on Momentum since I got him three years ago - Only on the odd occasion have I had to fill up with 95 Ron and that's if the other stuff wasn't available, and on those occasions I've felt like he's been less responsive - I never run it past three notches on the gauge to make sure I dont bottom out the tank!

I've just put him through his third MOT with me, and he's flown through the emissions tests 3 years in a row - not something im used to with previous motors! Don't know if that's a plus side in itself.

Side Question though - Is it intended for continuous use, or is it intended for 6 month on, 6 month off?

  8. Honestly - I like taking mine to Toyota for a service and MOT, However i do have the added bonus that one of my relatives works at one of my local dealers so I get some kind of family discount.

Last year I had my MOT and an interim service done, and I think it came in just over £160? This also included gear box oil and new gear linkages being fitted that I bought from AMS.

It depends if you think the money is worth it really, particularly at the branch I go to, the chaps are all knowledgable on common problems with Celica's, things to look out for etc I think they are well trained.

If it'll give you piece of mind its worth a go, that's one of the only reasons I go as I see the service and MOT as an important part of owning the car. Anything else I tend to do myself or go to my local friendly mechanic!

  9. At the same time / before was an E46 330d M Sport Auto. Great car.

Before this is, Saxo Furio, Saxo VTS, Fabia VRS, MK1 TT 225, Supercharged MX5 MK1, E90 320d oh and a GSXR 600.

I vaguley remember, was the Fabia yellow?

    My car history isnt great!

    95 Fiat Punto 1.2, 98 Renault Clio 1.2, 51 Plate 1.4 Polo 6n2, 51 plate Seat Leon 1.6... All 'great' cars ;)

  10. Your thinking of 'alloygators' mar - I enquired with sextons but there was a lengthy wait before they could get me in to fit them. Went to a place just past Winchester in the end.

Looked great on my wheels, and very thick. They get seated under the tyre but unfortunately as I had aftermarket alloys they didn't seat properly and so I ended up with air leaks. Will be fine on stock alloys.

Once curbed you simply shave down the gator again to get it looking nice.

  11. Glad to hear that I'm not alone in the 'hard to replace' mindset! I've always had base model cars and wanted the more powerful model, but cost was always an issue, But I'm happy with my 140. So far it's been reliable and I'm hoping it will be for the years to come :) contemplated getting another, maybe an older model, but unfortunately don't have the space to keep it anywhere!

  12. On my walk to work this morning, my timehop reminded me that I picked up my good, reliable friend Butterz 2 years ago to this day!

2 years later and 20,000 miles travelled together, still love it as much as the first viewing :)

Just wanted to know how long every one else has owned there's for? Was it bought from new, second hand, and what state to get it back to where it is now?!

This was the day I picked him up!
